  • Thank you for being so receptive to comments! The main problem is that the ad makes it seem that you MUST turn your child forward facing at 12 months OR at 20 pounds. If you could say "Rear facing until AT LEAST one year AND 20 pounds" it would help. For the forward facing segment, simply saying "forward facing until AT LEAST 4" would clear up the confusion for the minimum. Same with boostering--"booster until 4'9" or until the child passes the 5 step test."

  • We appreciate all constructive criticism. Our goal with this ad is to share the state law with the public. Our challenge is fitting all five categories in a 30 second ad. Your comments point out a problem with our script. Suggestions as to how to fit a better script into 30 seconds would be very welcome. If we can come up with a better script that accurately reflects the state law, we can re-voice the ad and edit the text graphics. -Thank you

  • I agree, this is very poorly worded. I just saw this on tv and googled to find the email address to complain! I am a CPST in Alaska and always inform parents of the ideals--rear-facing to the limits of the seat; forward-facing in a harness until 6 years old and at least 40 pounds; high-back booster until it's outgrown; backless booster until the child passes the 5-step test.

  • As long as a child is under the weight and height limits on their convertible carseat, they can stay rearfacing, which studies have shown to be safer. Riding rearfacing up to 2 years of age is five times safer for the child during a car crash. Also booster use doesn't have to start at age 4-5. Keeping kids harnessed longer can be safer for kids who are not yet mature enough for a booster seat. This video is good at showing minimum standards, but using "must be" words is misleading.
