Lantern Hill is the southern terminus of the Narragansett Trail; the northern end is at Ashville Pond in Hopkinton, Rhode Island. I believe efforts are underway to connect the Pequot Trail with the Narragansett Trail.
I agree the view was better before the casino. I have some pre-Foxwoods maps that show the route for the Narragansett Trail crossing the cedar swamp and ending near Poquetanuck Cove on the Thames river.
Thanks for the view. I used to go there a lot in the late 1960's.
I think Lantern Hill trail connected with the old Narragansett Trail (which was shown on the USGS topographic map). That trail could be located in the woods a ways n. of Gungywamp Rd, about a 1/2 mile east of Rte 12, in Groton. The trail could be followed all the way from there to Lantern Hill and further east..
I liked the original view (before Foxwoods) better - that thing is huge.
