@lilsis Yes you can. In Illustrator you can save symbols and in Flash you can import the .ai file with layers intact directly onto the stage to maintain precise positioning. The symbols go straight into your library.
how u get ur linework so fine? wihtout pixels what resolution and stuff u do? .and what pen u using? and xD sorry..what watercolor type brush u using..sorry for these quesitons
@MartenLeijonmarck sorry no I can't remember exactly. It was either oils or digital oils and most likely a bristol brush with slight modifications by me. Sorry.
@Goosebumbsfan Depending on what paint or brush you are using it picks up the other colors from this and other layers and smudges and mixes automatically. You'll just have to experiment with the many settings you can fine tune in painter. All the best.
@Goosebumbsfan there is a brush tool and a pen tool. Yes i am using the brush tool but within that I am using all kinds of pre-existing oils, digital oils, scratchboard tools and my own brushes I created with the brush creator tool.
This is exactly what I needed to start digital drawing and coloring, as NamNamsArt said. But it is quite true! You used the exact program I use, and a tablet.
@idmars10 You're very welcome :) Thought I would be whell on my way, but find it more difficult then I thought. Do you have a step by step course I could follow?

i have painter x. yes i soon realized that u were using digital watercollor.. now im just wondering how u got it to blend nicely lol... playing around with the settings and stuf.
I've been using Corel for a little over a year. Just out of curiosity, what is special about the canvas? I completely disregard it. I normally just create a new layer underneath my lines in which I color in.
Why use the canvas? I guess you can use another layer or watercolor layer underneath. In the old days the only layer that could be wet was the canvas but that was changed a few versions ago. I like to lay down my flats on the canvas and then layer more detail on subsequent layers. Habit more than anything else.
I don't remember which watercolor brush it was exactly. Most likely digital watercolor. It is not creating a watercolor layer because I am painting on the canvas and my line art is on higher layers.
ok so i bought it but how do you draw and erase with the pen som times i can but some times it just moves the mouse curser how do i keep it in drawing mod
It draws when the pen is touching the tablet, it moves the cursor when you hover above the tablet it erases when you turn you pen around to use the eraser or when you select the eraser from your tools.
I am using one of the pen tools to draw. I don't know which particular one it is in this video. I also modified some of them and saved them as my own pen preferences.
your line would always have the same thickness with a mouse. So any of the painting or dynamic paintstrokes would not be possible. The tablet measures the speed, the angle, the pressure of the pen as you draw.
Without a board you would not have pressure sensitivity, angle, airbrush flow and width options or any of the other amazing dynamics. To draw in software like painter with only a mouse would be pretty frustrating and even pointless in my opinion. If you can afford to buy painter you can also afford a small drawing tablet.
Thank you very much for the tutorial. A basic and IMPORTANT question I have and that no one can answer is 'How do I paint on already lined art that I have scanned in?" When I open my scanned art that I just want to paint, I can't go under the canvas to preserve the lines. PLEASE help me.
Sure - I will be happy to. There are several ways to do this, some are more technical and advanced, the prep work would involve setting up your files in photoshop first by scanning in at 600 dpi greyscale or even 1200 dpi bw bitmap, then saving the selection as a black channel or black on a transparent layer. A much easier way is to have your scanned in lineart on a layer in Painter, set that layer to 'multiply' and paint your color on underlying layers. Google scanning+coloring lineart for more
Thank you very much. I thought no one was going to explain that one to me.
P.S.
Is there a way to unlock my canvas layer to duplicate it? Right now I have to lift it to a 'water color' layer only. other than that it can not be manipulated.
Before you started doing the line art on the duck you did all kinds of strokes. And I have the Wacom Intuos3, and you do to, I think you said. Anyway I want a brush stroke where it works on the pressure I put on my pen. BY THE WAY YOUR A WONDERFUL AND GREAT ARTIST.
It is one of the pens. I don't remember which one I used there in particular. I have several custom pens saved which I tweaked to my liking (responsiveness to pressure, angle etc on Wacom)
I have been accustomed to using photoshop and would love to be using painter but theres something about the brushes and such that i just cant color on there. so the question: What brushes are you using for the inking/linework and what kind of water color brush are you using for the coloring?
I use various brushes for the inking and linework and I also use different brushes for coloring (oils, digital oils, watercolor, digital watercolor) it all depends. You can tweak and make your own brushes of course as well. I find the scratchboard tool quite a good starting point for linework. Today I mostly do the linework in Illustrator though and then the refined color in Painter. I don't like pixelated linework.
And i was having trouble with the Canvas Size options, and the pixels and stuff... well its quite confusing, so can u jus tell me how you setup your "Canvas Size" Setting thing-a-majig?????
WOW. Thanks for that Ian. I actually work in Painter myself and use a similar technique. I sketch on one layer then apply my heavy outline on the layer above and color on the layer beneath. I usually use the airbrush for coloring, but maybe I should try using the watercolor. That looks really nice. It's cool to see someone who uses the program similar to me. Thanks.
Well, I could suggest that you google that...but the keyboard shortcut is: Spacebar + Option key. Double click in the image to reset to vertical/horizontal.
Cool isn't it! I don't know why other programs don't have a similar feature. Sadly Painter does not work anymore with the latest version of OS X Leopard. I am very upset about this. It was one of my favorite tools!
I'm afraid it does not. I purchased the Painter X upgrade and it does not start up at all. I am on a dual G5 not on Intel. Apparently on Intel it works fine.

@RyanLkirk It was a Medium Intuos 4, and I got it for $400.
It's $350 without Corel Painter11, but I suggest getting it if you don't have photoshop or something else.
Also, get a travel case. I've been using my backpack to transport it, but I regret not buying a carry sleeve.
