Probably only about 2.5 percent of the population have "serious" astigmatism -- that MIGHT prevent 20/20 vision. There are ODs who just use spherical lenses -- and they work great.

You mentioned Bates and it means the cornea do not have any relation to the astigmatism! Astigmatism appeard on oculomotor muscles!

My eyes sight is correctable to 10/12. 20/20 is only minimal standard for average human sight.
