I counted 67 train cars surely both those engines can haul more than that? The old 4-8-4s could haul 145 loaded frieght cars by them selves one engine could surely both these can haul longer than this?
some may say that the chinese locomotives may not be as attractive as the US or European ones, but either way, a steam hauled train in full flight has a beauty of its own, regardless of the origine of the loco
@trainlover479 You would have to be lucky to be able to buy a steam engine from America or anywhere else in the world because they all dieselized in the 1950s and 1960s and therefore most of them would have been scrapped and therefore it would be impossible to find a steam engine for sale anywhere in any country now. Railways in China however continued using steam until the present and therefore when it comes to running a steam engine it's most likely they will be imported from China.
@JacobMski dude i know all that now, and i now respect all these things, that was a year ago and besides i like how they Americanised one. i LIVE in america. iknow they have steam in china still.
Whew - that is deserving of the word awesome! What a show. I think the drivers on the lead engine slipped one time on that startup. Not easy to control that much raw power. I've never understood how you synch two steam locomotives. Each engine here has an engineer. So maybe it's just human teamwork. Those red wheels!!
communication between the engine crews and skill, nothing more, nothing less.
it is today a lost skill, go back 30 or 40 years, when steam was king, and it was regular practice. during ww2 some trains reqired double heading BIG BOY locomotives!
Good to see Iowa rails still in service. The tracks of the Des Moines, Winterset (where I live) and Southwestern Railroad are long, long, long gone, but at least Iowa has the Pride of owning two QJ locomotives for freight service.
this is awsome but I am looking foward to going to China this year to see Chineese steam on homerails including the last two surviveing QJ locomotives which will pull our train over the famous Jing Ping Pass for which they were built
I just got back a few days ago but all I saw was 2-8-2 class SYs and one 2-6-2 and three narrow gauge 0-8-0s we didnt get to see the QJs running because they wanted too much for us to charter them for our train they shot us down at the last minute telling us we werent going to get to see the QJs running and China Rail wont allow them on their mainline..I did however make some video I am going to review and see if I can post it here on youtube my video camra is pretty old
thanks thats cool we really took a hard hit with the loss of the QJs there but we did get to see some good steam action untill I broke my damn camra on the third day oh well it was still some good steam action i saw alot of steam engines there and went into a locomotive works in Jixi and saw them disassembleing an SY class 2-8-2 for a boiler rebuild but I didnt have my video camra on that part it was a suprise for us to see all that I also rode a 2 foot coal hauling railway in the cab
Wow well thats was something to see.I bet breaking your camera was a dissapointment i know..I would like to see in person working on steam engines myself.I got a dvd from pentrex called china steam its 90 minutes long and it shows some good stuff.i saw the works place on the dvd they really got the tools needed to work on them to.Thanks buddy.
Oh this was thrilling wow.I knew those QJs were powerfull but man.If we get very many of those QJs disel maybe scared no joking. But i wonder how long is Iowa going to keep revenue Freight going i hope from now on???
These two locomotives, 6988 and 7081 had been serving a 619 mile long daily passenger route from Jining South station to Tongliao station in China for many years before they were sold to IAIS in 2006. They are definitely powerful.
Hi POWERFULL is right they are after all 2-10-2s.I wonder if they are more powerfull than the american 4-8-4s they were said to be able to pull one engine able to pull 145 loaded freight cars.Wonder what capacity the Chinese QJS have??
Best Video of the freight train on the web! Loved seeing the smoke billowing from the locomotives as they get under way. By the end the train has really picked up steam. They have awesome pulling power! Great shot of a great train!
I've always believed that steam engines are magical and there's no doubt about it you cannot resist a steam engine.
