  • I let out an audible 'ugh' every time I hear this piece. Pure beauty.

  • This is the song that got me into Jazz, Many years ago i first heard it and since then I have loved it more than any other style of musical expression. any persons who can't understand its beauty have no idea what music is really about.

  • The piano on this track has always been my favorite

  • mc coy Tyner did a great great job !!

  • The most inspired eight minutes of pure art in history!

  • v Jazz is beautiful but there's no need to be so single-minded like that.

  • Fuck Jazz. This is music at it's highest form. For those that don't know what jazz is, there is jazz, but for those who know what jazz is really, there is no jazz

  • why would someone dislike this?

  • 13 minutes of bliss

  • Come on baby, light my fire!

    Oopps, sorry..

  • I love piece have listened to it over and over and as good as John Coltrane plays on this i love the Mcoy Tyner piano part

  • This album made me put down my alto and pick up a soprano.

  • One of my favorite jazz pieces ever. I love how the mood changes between mystic and relaxing :D

  • John Coltrane, truly one of the best jazzmen ever to play the SAX.

  • I found your channel quite by accident !!! And I am GLAD I did !!!! dayum bruh you have some great tunes on here ....sooo I subbed !! Thanks for sharing !!!! Have a great day and keep up the great work !!!

  • Beautiful and haunting. This reminds me of how we announced our Jazz sophistication by sitting at friends houses over the weekends........ Drinking a little wine, smoking a little herb and reflecting. Growing up. I just love Mr. Coltrane and this. Totally timeless classic!

  • stfu with your fancy ass opinion and enjoy the jazzz.

  • I looove that background piano, it kills me!!!

  • Even though Coltrane plays extremely well on this, McCoy Tyner makes this piece for me.

  • please combine 1 and 2 to get the full 14 minutes,i beg you jazzhole13

  • tone death or tone deaf,or both-elucidate

  • Just turned my 10-year old daughter on to the original in the movie The Sound of Music the other day. Now I'm gonna try to introduce her to this version (my faavorite, by the way.) If she doesn't get it right away, I'm sure she eventually will get it somewhere down the line. She's pretty acute when it comes to listening to good music.

  • I love this song................

  • ahhhhhhh real music THANK GOD I'VE FINALLY FOUND YOU!!

  • @Zipcodeking no more of that fake shit we all call rap huh?

  • All Hail- Elvin Jones

  • Great sensation thanks so much Johnny Coltrane.

  • the best fucking cover to this song EVER!!!

  • Really so simple, so understated, yet so grand in its emotional quality. Each note has meaning.

  • thumb up if u.... thumb up god damn it !

  • Love it!

  • My favorite Coltrane tune! And I'm a drummer. Something about the chemistry of the whole thing. These are a few of my favorite things.... truly... no joke...

  • @bluebassett2 If you like this, check out some of Coltrane's live versions on Youtube...they make this one seem restrained.

  • Guys, go listen to the second part! Its got so few views...this is only half of the song.

Also, buying this mouthpiece soon~ Its a selmer paris classic metal, "E" facing.

  • i love how this sounds jazzy but at the same time pretty depressing. never heard this before.

  • I love the part around 5:45 and the way that the piano just lifts you up!

  • from 1:01 to 1:18 just awesome

  • He killed it at 1:56

  • Eric Satie reference at 5: 00 :)

  • my jazz history teacher thought that Tyner's piano solo was too long. i disagree. it's like... mathematical! and entrancing. one of my favorite piano solos ever. he was ahead of his time with the entrancing quality of his solo.

  • 5 people are tone deaf

  • @Tobuscus00Fan Now 11 people are tone death

  • coltraine takes me back to being a little innocent kid , with this beautiful peice..........

  • the part that starts at 1: 03 is worth dying for

  • 5 people must be deaf

  • fantasticccccc!!!!

  • kenny g makes me want to throw up!

  • @elvispresley718 My sentiments exactly.

  • Kenny G does not compare to Coltrane . Coltrane plays jazz in its purist form. Kenny G. style is more of what they call Easy Jazz.

  • @09201951ful Coltrane is a jazz musician; Kenny G is a "jazz musician." Big difference.

  • @macgregorcd totally agree!!

  • Was he using Heroin during this time?

  • @arscolumbia

    Nope, he quit in 1957

  • love to him

  • Masterpiece!

  • amazing , .....

  • amazing

  • Strange and at the same time so cool that music from 50 years ago is still so cool. I'm 17 and just impressed...

  • @infacttheband Yeah - I thnk people were a lot more open-minded musically then.

  • saxybair13

  • This is Music, this is Art! Coltrane was a genius and this song is so beautiful. A must!

  • How could you possibly dislike this!?!?!?! This IS Music at its finest my friends. MY JAZZ LIVE FOREVER!!!

  • I like this too because it sounds like charlie brown to me and it sounds like a little kid playing the horn lol

  • @bluedov69 If you ever find a little kid who can play horn like this...I don't even know what you should do with that much talent.

  • @Iimeyman Statisically, it's not likely to happen to anyone listening to this. Coltrane is quite possibly the greatest musical genius of the last one hundred years, or more. I think you have to go back to Beethoven to find someone of comparable inventiveness and profundity.

  • @polymath7 i disagree. there are many musicians between Beethoven and coletrain that were very inventive.

  • @polymath7 Zappa

  • @bluedov69 ya i really agree, charlie brown is kinda what got me into jazz the pianist Red Garland reminds me alot of Vince Guaraldi (the guy who played for all the peanuts cartoons). im 15 btw so im not and old guy who like watched them when they came out lawlz

  • @bluedov69 its called soprano sax, it has an oboe-like tone quality.

  • Hard to believe that this recording was 50 years ago. It is still so alive and vibrant and so relevant-- as it remains one of "My Favorite Things" in life! (pun intended)

  • Trane, last of the Big Four. Coleman, Lester, Bird, and Trane.

  • McCoy Tyner rules on piano!!!!

  • @tsiminiera Most definitely. Much as with this quartet's version of 'Softly as A Morning Sunrise', this piece just wouldn't be the same without Tyner's piano. He's one of the greatest jazz pianists ever -in some ways *the* greatest (particularly in the richness and depth of his tone).

  • @polymath7 On 05:00 he plays a note wrong (this is studio version)

  • @ScoutsBermijn yet he plays very good

  • as much as the bourgeois players use this song that i see atleast, coltrane was on to a very good thing when he composed this song. people of all sorts can relate to it

  • @scorpian8king Coltrane certainly made this wonderful version, but Rodgers (Broadway writer) wrote this tune for a musical...The Sound Of Music. 'Trane is the master, and of course, made it his own.

  • This really makes me long for 105.9 WJZZ Detroit's Jazzy one.

  • Truly one of my favorite things.

  • John and his wife,Alice are great people who was a blessing from God,so we can enjoy music like this...

  • since the first time I heard the sound of John Coltrane was absolutely fascinated by the grandeur of this amazing musician. Over the years I followed the trajectory of this genius of our time who sadly left us too soon. My sincere and simple tribute to this superb musician.

  • Gracias a una amiga empece a conocer este maravilloso mundo del Jazz.

Uyy cuanto tiempo sin escuchar estas hermosas melodias.....mmmmmm

Alguien me puede recomendar a quienes puedo escuchar.

    Gracias.....

  • Iv never seen so little dislikes for so many likes. WHAT A LEGEND!!

  • I don't know how many time I must have heard this tune, thousands at least!

  • What a Genius

  • I learned the whole piano part, till where he gets to "these are a few of my favorite things".... but by now, I've probably forgotten how to play it.... I knew other parts of it too... I'm sure I could easily pick it back up

  • The 4 people who dislike this don't have a favorite thing

  • @Luvnprosper88 Quality reply there man... there's still some intelligence on youtube afterall! Take it away John...

  • this is music that we should share with our children and granchildren if we dont its a mortal sin

  • im really not that musically savy but this is like an orgasm for my ears!!

  • JS Bach, Niccolo Paganini, C Parker, J Coltrane, JFA Pastorius the greatests eveeeerrrr !!!!

  • Piano.

  • Julie Andrews On ORGAZM

  • I think that John was the ONLY ,the GREATEST jazz man to play the soprano saxophone. He was a MUST. RIP John!

  • Gorgeous....

  • This song is one of my favorite things. Thank you

  • this music is one of my favorite things!

  • disliking trane is like disliking Jazz itself >.<

  • Very nice. VERY nice. In fact, it was quite spectacular. Even at that, this is literally NOTHING compared to Brad Mehldau's version....

  • With the hi-fi equipment I have, Coltrane's sax sounds like it's dead centre of my living room. Freaky-deaky.

  • This can come only from something devine. I mean their is abusolutely nothing evil about this piece!!!!

  • deep feeling. absurd technique, pure state of art of music. music is love.

  • @TheMarcelolelo Sorry but, the right sentence would be: "Coltrane is love" :D

  • FUCK MY PUMPS

  • 5:03 AHAH !

  • Listen and listen again. And you will know that God exists because here is is Voice. Trane forever...

  • John Coltrane is known by another name- God!

  • my dads favorite album and mine!

  • such a masterpiece :D

  • Ray ripped this - but well

  • My favorite things - the father

Light My Fire - the son

  • Coltrane never ever played the sax Coltrane "Cried The Sax"!! Peace to all who know! Atrue masterpiece when they hear it without following the crowd!!!

  • que musica tan buena

  • Great...in ANY season (have this on an Xmas compilation, of all things, but...what: me, complain? not!)

  • Did anyone else get no volume or is it just my computer?

  • @ChimChim131 it's ur computer :b

  • Coltrane is great, powelful and sentimental.

  • Coltrane was the man. It's just a shame Kenny G had to go and ruin the soprano sax for everyone

  • @KingCrimson250 I know that Kenny G is a saxophonist but I never listened to this music. And before listening it, I want to know why he ruined the soprano. Thank you :-)

  • @KingCrimson250 Amen to that!!

  • @KingCrimson250 Kenny G's not THAT bad but Trane is better !

  • JOHN COLTRANE (1926-1967)

  • i have to learn it ,)

  • mc toy tyner!

  • Awesome rendition of the song. Love the subtle improvisations in the middle of it. Nice rise and fall of trumpet also the runs and the repetition of the verses. Hi-hat allows nice flow of drums in the background. Very nice, one of my favorites. Awesome!

  • @Arlort29 Ummm...trumpet? There is no trumpet in this song.

  • love it!

  • le solo de piano de Mc Toy Tyner est absolument irresistible

  • @gammaGTgammajereste Ouais!! Comme toute la douceur du solo de John Coltrane sur le sax soprano. Très bel enregistrement

  • John Coltrane and Stan Getz gotta be my two favorite jazz geniuses.

This is my favorite song by coltrane, it sings to the soul and mind more than the mainstream songs do nowadays.

  • Dislikes? How?

  • One of my favorite songs by my favorite artist. Makes me think of all the beautiful possibilities in life, just listening. In the seventies when my gang and I thought we were finally 'grown' we would listen to this for hours. Wonderful memories of good times. I love this so much......

  • Anyone else here for "Kafka on the Shore"?

  • i was about to write more offensive stuff but... enjoy the music ;)

  • 1:01 - 1:17 I'm in saxiphonical heaven.

  • Yo I'll be short n simple: I listened to this while taking a stroll under the sun in the city. Sunny weather, Busy City atmosphere, Jazz music, These are a few of my favorite things indeed. Haha

  • I don't know why anyone would ever listen to any other tune than this one.

  • @jwright123456789 diversity

  • @jwright123456789 I like ur comment :)

Eventhough soprano sax is not my favourite sax sound (for some unfortunate reason...), I absolutely love this piece and coltrane's soprano sax playing

  • @jwright123456789 the perfet song
