  • Great Job!

  • what are you using for the cat wiskers?

  • Wow very impressive:)

  • Wonderful!! how do you make your claws and teeth? <3 your art!!!

  • @lvrofwolves

    Hello there,

Thank you for the nice comment. I use "Fimo" to make the teeth and claws. It is a polymer clay that you bake in the oven. There are many brands, "Super Sculpey" works. You can buy it at any hobby store.

    Take care

    Dan

  • @DanMonsterMan

    hey

    your amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

do you use poster paint to paint your monsters??

  • @Bloodygeek1

I don't use poster paint. I use all purpose, water based paints, like you'd paint your house with (which is an acrylic/latex combination).

    Take care

    Dan

  • @DanMonsterMan

    thanks

and do you use flour and water or PVA and water??

    whats the difference?

  • @Bloodygeek1

I use flour and water for the paste. PVA is glue. You could use either. I have more information about my techniques on my website, GourmetPaperMache (dot com) if you are interested.

    Dan

  • @DanMonsterMan

    thanks soooo much man

  • Wow. SO Amazing. Very detailed and clean. Great job man!

  • @lilprima1

Thank you so much for the wonderful comment! I very much appreciate it.

    Take care

    Dan

  • @DanMonsterMan thats where i thought u got them from. Thanks!

    cat

  • where do u get the eyes from?

  • @nightowl61inokc

You can find them at taxidermists. Just google "glass eyes" and you'll find several companies.

    Dan

  • Wow this is amazing but what do you do with them like sell the projects or keep them all?

  • @TDHReviews

    Hi again,

I sell some, keep some. I have some on display. But I do have a house full of art projects, that's for sure.

    Dan

  • @DanMonsterMan ooopss sorry dont mind the comment i posted on the dragon mache i didnt know u already created a lion so nvm THANKS!

  • @TiAmAtRiA07

I see you found it. You should make a lion even if it take more time than you have. You'd enjoy it.

    Dan

  • great baby lion! But he's way too fat XD

  • @Redcode111

    He's not fat. He's plump.

    Dan

  • @Redcode111 He's not fat...he's just big boned!

  • what do u use for your whiskers i like useing fishing line you cant really see it in my vids but its there

  • @aafuternik

For these whiskers I used the bristles from a broom.

    Dan

  • it is really nice but too fast.

  • @arttulip

This is just meant to be entertaining, not instructional. It is time lapse. I haven't made it faster. In fact, I slow them down. If you are interested in how I make things, visit my blog, PaperMacheBlog (dot com). I also have slower instructional videos on my site, GourmetPaperMache (dot com).

    Thank you.

    Dan

  • Dude that's awesome I wish I could get one

  • You are very, very talented, that lion is beautiful!

  • @Hellatei

Thank you so much for the kind words. I'm really happy that you like the pieces.

    Take care

    Dan

  • Great work, but it would be better to see in something closer to real time.

  • @seashorecanadian

Thank you. I understand about the time lapse. These aren't really meant to be instructional. It takes three or four weeks to make a project like this. Without time lapse, it would be many hours of video. I don't think anyone would watch. I do have instructional videos on my blog however, PaperMacheBlog (dot com).

    Take care

    Dan

  • AWESOME GReAT DETAIL

  • @venomDgamer

Thank you again. You are very kind. This was one of my favorite projects. I tried to keep everything as parallel as I could including the expressions. I'm glad you like it.

    Dan

  • Great keep making your videos! they are awesome i really enjoy watching them and great creations!

  • @ppotatos3000

Thank you so much for the nice comment! I really appreciate it.

    Dan

  • can u do that alot slower

  • @virginiahelton202

I just post a camera over my work space and it takes a frame a second. It is time-lapse photography. So there is nothing to slow down. I didn't speed it up. I do have some slow, instructional videos on my blog, PaperMacheBlog (dot com) if you are interested.

    Dan

  • WOW!!!!!

  • @missorigamigirl

Thank you for the enthusiastic comment!

    Dan

  • @DanMonsterMan your welcome! can you make a how to vid? please? cos this is AWESOME!!!!!!!!

  • Very fine to see how to build the figure. Many thanks for showing.

  • Now that's what I call talent. Nice work.

  • @SeaCoastGirl1987

Thank you for the nice comment! I really appreciate it.

    Dan

  • i want it.

  • @88NevrNuffMusic88

I'm glad you like the pieces. Thank you .

    Dan

    GourmetPaperMache (dot com)

  • what did you use to make the wings the skin part of it. Is it paper or some kind of cloth? Really cool, ur vids are very inspiring:)

  • @aisumi123

Thank you again. You are very kind. I put a final "skin" on my projects of cloth (old bed sheets torn into strips) dipped in white glue (like Elmer's). That makes the pieces very strong and allows for lots of detail.

    Take care

    Dan

  • No offence but these lions are really creepy. AWSOME SCULPTURES THOUGH!

  • uuuuaaaaalllll!!!!Caraca muito show de bola!!!Gostei.Eu amo artesanato.Bjs

  • @tigre0156

Obrigado pelo comentário simpático! Estou feliz que você gosta do meu trabalho.

    Dan

  • @DanMonsterMan I am going to make a mexican style paper mache horse that is big and sturdy enough to hold a small child if you have any tips I would love them this will be my first try at paper mache. Also please please where do you get your glass eyes I would like to buy some for my horse and also my paper mache lantern birds I will make.

  • @FernandoTorrera

    Hi again,

I get most of my eyes from a taxidermy companies. The one I use the most is VanDykes. vandykestaxidermy (dot com). The horse sounds like a great project. For something that large that needs that kind of strength you will need a substantial substructure. You can make that out of wood or metal. I've seen people use PVC cut and glued and assembled for an armature. Then build out from there.

    Good luck!

    Dan

  • @DanMonsterMan oh and what are you using for paper besides newspaper? Is it expensive thank you.

  • @FernandoTorrera

I just use newspaper underneath. My final "skin" however is cloth (old bed sheets) dipped in white glue.

    Again, good luck.

    Dan

  • How much time it take to make 1 ?

  • @MarianFila10

This pair of projects probably took three or four weeks to make. But there is drying time and I make several projects at once. So it's difficult to know exactly how long anything takes. Thanks for watching.

    Dan

    GourmetPaperMache (dot com)

  • what did you use to make the teeth and claws?

  • @CritterCrunch88

I used "Fimo" an plastic you bake in the oven. There are several other similar products. You can get it anywhere craft supplies are sold.

    Dan

    GourmetPaperMache (dot com)

  • these are really awesome, it makes me want to make stuff. I just dont like the wrinkly stuff in the ears, and the eyes are a little too close together and/or too high.

  • unreal, you have some awesome talent DanMonsterMan

  • @rmguinn

Thank you again! This little pair has turned out to be my favorite project.

    Dan

  • ahhhhh that soooo kool

  • @domoprincess18

Thank you! I appreciate the comment.

thank you so much for the nice comment!

    Dan

  • whats the purpose of using wires while you wrapping in 0.06? is it to make it hold stronger or??

  • @jetlkc

The wire hanger is inside a leg or arm. It allow you to bend them at the elbow or knee and they will stay bent.

    Thanks

    Dan

    GourmetPaperMache (dot com)

    Dan

  • @dansnuphith

    Hey there,

I'm so glad you liked the video! Thank you so much for the nice comment.

    Dan

  • Oh man, my sculpture is turning into a disaster... Any idea on how to cover up those failures? It's been two month I've spent doing it.. It has a structural failure on its leg..

  • @shermdf

It's hard to suggest a fix if I don't know more about what is happening. Could you give me more details?

  • poor cat but nice vid lol

  • @s3xyt1m3

Yes, my poor cat who fights me every step of the way when I'm working. Of course then he gets some kitty treats.

Thank you for the nice comment.

    Dan

    GourmetPaperMache (dot com)

  • omg love these

  • @firewind10100

Why thank you! This pair is one of my most favorite projects. I wanted to capture "parallel" in every possible respect, including the attitude and expression. I really appreciate that you like it.

  • eres increible tienes unos trabajos estupendos te felicito son muy detallados y no esta de mas decirlo perfectos ..... gracias por la demostracion....

  • @regalitomich

Muchas gracias por sus amables palabras! Estoy muy de apreciar. Dan

  • These are so cool, what did you make the teeth and claws out of? I just did my first ever attempt at making a Dobby and two owls for my children's book character parade at their school. Please take a look at it - remember it's my first try! Face Book pages - Artie Accents. I'll check out your blog. Great videos... my kids want me to make a dragon like yours... im thinking a bucket load of practice!

  • @wannaberich2

I checked out your facebook page, and the owls and Dobbie are incredible. It's hard to believe that they are your first attempts. Working with the feathers must have been a pain. I've done it and they end up everywhere. Thanks for sharing.

I use Fimo for teeth and claws.

    Keep up the great work.

    Dan

  • ha ha those wings are awesome!!

  • @intestineswallower

    Thank you!

    Dan

  • omg

    mad skills dude

  • @johnny1bucket

Thank you so much for the kind words. I really appreciate it.

    Dan

  • @DanMonsterMan

could you do some instructional videos

    Johnny

  • @johnny1bucket

I do have some instructional videos, at least through the paper mache part. They are on my blog, PaperMacheBlog (dot com). Take care

    Dan

  • i love your cat! love your sculptures- why dont you wok in the film props industry? you shouldmbe living in hollywood and earning lots of money- you are very talented

  • @63kittykat

Thank you for the nice comment. I have three cats, but Max (the Bengal) and Eddy (the Abyssinian) are the ones always underfoot in my studio. About Hollywood, I don't think I could compete there with the likes of Todd Masters (my friend who runs FX studios). Besides, I really like sculpture, a frozen image just the way I like it. But thank you for the nice compliment.

    Dan

  • I happened to come across ur videos recently and they are just amazing. But somehow, all the work seems to be monsters and dragons only...;-)

Can u do some softer works too, like an angel or you know something that will be more appealing to put in the family living.....i would greatly appreciate that

then again, keep up the good work, it is really inspiring indeed

  • @simsmel

    Hi there,

Thank you for the nice comment. I have done a few cute things, but not many. I think this little cub is cute, isn't he? Just for you, I will do something cute on my next video. Not an angel though. Maybe another cute animal.

    Take care

    Dan

  • @DanMonsterMan Oh yea, the cub really is cute, but I am sure we will have a second thought about giving him a tight hug na...LOL......:-)...just kidding.....

  • @yuuki778899

Thank you. I appreciate the comment!

    Dan

  • did u use plaster or pva glue?

  • @ZeroOneChannel

The final "skin" is just cloth dipped in white glue, Elmer's. But PVA will work too.

    Dan

  • wow those are amazing ! :)

  • @vida90

Why thank you so much! I appreciate the kind words.

    Dan

  • at first i thought my eyes were deciving me ...... but this just seemed too good to be real.

  • @warshon123

That is one of the nicest compliments I've ever received. Thank you so much! I really appreciate it. This pair was very challenging artistically. I wanted them to be as identical as possible until the very end when I gave them their details. Even then I wanted their expressions and attitudes to be the same. I think I got close. Not that many people notice. Again, thank you for the nice comment.

    Dan

  • so you make a living out of doing this? like, is this your job?

  • How long does it take you to complete these 2 sculptures? I need help too, what kind of paper mache paste did you use?

  • @shermdf

If I remember correctly, these two projects took about a month to complete. But it's hard to say for sure since I only work a couple hours here and a few hours there. I use just cheap white flour and water for paste. That still works the best I think.

    Good luck.

    Dan

  • @DanMonsterMan Does different paste have different effects? I'm using wallpaper paste for my sculpture. And I'm using cardboards and bottles for the sculpture skeletons.. will that be able to hold on to a sculpture that is going to be 150+ cm tall?

  • @shermdf

Hi again. I'm not an expert on pastes other than I use. I use just flour and water (which has always worked great for me). But I've heard other people use wallpaper paste with success. In fact I've seen many recipes. They all seem to work with newspaper. 150 cm is not too tall. I think cardboard and bottles would be fine. I would put them together initially with masking tape. Masking tape is amazing for sculpting. Adds a lot of strength. Good luck.

    Dan

  • Really good, but what was the song?

  • @TheDragonFreak7

It wasn't really a song. It was a piece of "royalty free" music that I bought. I can't remember the name of the piece. Sorry.

  • Lol looks like you wrapped up your cat in the beginning. Very cool dragon.

  • You are just AWESOME at this.

    P.S. They are adorable!

  • @Avital1999

Thank you so much for the kind words. I really appreciate it. I do really like how this pair turned out. I wanted them to be almost identical in every way, except of course that one is a dragon and one is a lion cub. Again, thank you for taking the time to write.

    Dan

  • du bist echt ein künstler, klasse arbeiten, es macht spass dir zuzuschauen, und lust es selbst auszuprobieren, einfach phantastisch, weiter so

  • @spelle71

Vielen Dank für die freundlichen Worte! Ich schätze es.

  • These are so awesome!! :O

  • @xBiZarre4

Thank you for the nice comment! I'm glad you like my art work.

    Dan

  • Too cool. The finished products are real jaw-droppers. It must take a ton of time but the final results are worth it. I am inspired to give it a go, starting with something much simpler. A shapeless lump is probably about my speed!

  • @smegweevil

Thank you for the nice comment. Yes, you should give it a go. It is a great art medium. I always have people start with a simple monster at first, to learn the techniques. It's goof-proof. Can't be told the bulge is in the wrong place. Once you learn the techniques anything is possible. If you are interested I have some slower, instructional videos on my blog, PaperMacheBlog (dot com).

    Good luck.

    Dan

  • they will summon the demons from below

  • @burgerkingruler

Yes, and then they will PARTY!

    Dan

  • @DanMonsterMan can u make a deamon that will scare the crap out of people and that will give them that image in there minds that will say "WOA"

  • @yupyap56

Yes, we all have our demons I guess. I let them out through my art work. It's good to get them out.

    Take care

    Dan

  • Dan No i can make a wining story bout u and im not bein kind Im just telling you that u papermache good anf can u make a movie of papermacheing ideas ? if u can that would be a miracle

  • DAN U ARE DA MAN

i could make a storry about how u papermache

  • @68Julian68

I'm sure it would be a short story. Thank you. You are too kind.

    Dan

  • 5this is goood

  • @68Julian68

Thank you again Julian! I appreciate it.

    Dan

  • Is your art up for sale? I'd just like to know. :3

  • @CookieMonster102030

    Hi again,

Yes I do sell work by commission. But it is expensive because these are so labor intensive. I know the videos make it look like it doesn't take long to make, but it really does take many hours. That's why I'm about people making their own paper mache. I sell how-to books (gourmetpapermache (dot com)) and have instructional videos on my blog (papermacheblog (dot com)). Thanks for your interest.

    Dan

    Dan

  • cat so cute ~l_l~

  • @zabakkabou

Thank you for the nice comment! Yes, that's Eddy in my video. He is always underfoot. I have another cat, Max, who also "helps out" when I work.

    Take care

    Dan

  • pinata!

    that's amazing, good job :)

  • @chattonnette1990

    Thank you very much!

    Dan

  • @chattonnette1990

Thank you! I appreciate the kind words.

    Dan

  • That is friggen amazing man, I can't believe while looking at that, that it's paper mache! Fantastic job man!

  • @movienoc101

Why thank you for the kind words! I appreciate it very much.

    Take care.

    Dan

  • Thanks for he feedback Dan. You are a very good artist. I will definitely check out your website!

  • Dan,

I'm amazed at your talent. What type of paint are you using? After you do a base and you put the darker color and wipe it off, how long are you waiting to wipe it? Just amazing. Thanks for posting. Really cool!!!

  • Hi there,

Thank you for the nice comment. I just use all purpose, water based paint (usually acrylic latex, like house paint). I buy it at Home Depot. Rustoleum brand is great (not the oil based). You can get colors close to primary. The black is just watered down black paint (same brand as above). I paint it on and wipe it off before it dries. I call the process "blackwashing". Really brings out the color.

There is more info on my site, GourmetPaperMache (dot com).

    Take care

    Dan

  • At 1:20 what is that stuff your wrapping around the body? Is it papaer mache pulp or what? Love the vid and please respond quick cuz im doin' a tiger for halloween this year and Im behind schedule!!

  • Isn't halloween over? Actually, the final "skin" I use is cloth (torn up bed sheets) dipped into white glue (Elmer's usually). I invented this process that I call "cloth mache". It allows for lots of detail and adds tremendous strength to the project. I have lots more information about this on my site GourmetPaperMache (dot com) and on my blog, PaperMacheBlog (dot com).

    Good luck!

    Dan

  • ive done many paper mache art too,,,but ive never done making animals...and ur good man..!!!

  • Thank you for the nice comment! I don't make too many real animals. Mostly dragons and fantasy creatures. The goal here was to make a baby lion and dragon that were parallel in every way. In fact I did everything exactly the same until the face (well, and I added wings to the dragon) and the painting and details.

    Keep up your art!

    Dan

  • wowowow. i wish i could watch the whole process (with no fast forwarding..)!!

    keep it up :D

  • Thank you Jessie. I really don't think you'd want to watch a three week video though. That's how long it took to make both of these projects. That's why I have to do time lapse.

    Take care

    Dan

  • and once again, amazing job

    5*

  • I see that you are watching all ten. I'm really happy you are enjoying them.

    Dan

  • I'll check it out. Thank for the stars!

    Dan

  • Suppose it beats my paper mache volcano from grade 4.

  • Well, that depends upon how cool the volcano was. Thank you for commenting again.

    I appreciate it very much.

    Dan

  • These are so amazing! (but creepy)

  • Thank you. But creepy? This cute little lion? with his twin cute little baby dragon?

    Dan

  • BOMB!!!! LOVE IT!

  • Thank you for the nice comment!

    Dan

  • WOW!!

  • Thank you! I really appreciate it!

    Dan

  • waw thats really amazing i would really like to do that in my future if i will be able to lol thats really awesome!

  • Thank you for the nice comment! And yes, you could do this. I'm all about helping people do paper mache. It is a wonderful art form. Check out my site (GourmetPaperMache) and blog (PaperMacheMan) dot com for more information. Everyone should be doing this.

    Dan

  • you should make armor for your cat. just sayin, that would be awesome

  • That would be funny indeed.

    Thanks!

    Dan

  • Fuck yes.... Kitty battle armor. Nuff said, gogo!

  • I was wondering- what is the material you use for the wing webbing- is it fabric?

  • Yes, old bed sheets to be exact. I have lots more information on my site if you are interested in the technique. GreatPaperMache (dot com)

    Take care

    Dan

  • Wow! That's amazing!

I made a Simba, Scar and Mufasa (The Lion King) paper mache sculptures.

  • Thank you
