Awesume! This was very helpful for helping me to figure out how to do it on my GS 350. The oil filter on the GS 350 is horizoronntal, and it does not have the extra drain plug. It is a simpler, one piece cartridge. Unscrew the cartridge using a $12 oil filter wrench from Lexus (64 MM x 14) (or a competitor). The oil will drain from the cartridge when the fins are vertical (no mess). Make sure the new filter has the same length as what you are taking out (to avoid damaging your engine).
Well done. I don't yet own a Lexus, but will soon. It's good to see such qualitty DIY videos such as this. I'm looking at a GS350 but may get an LS460. Again, great job!
@homeaddition I successfully changed the oil and it was the same air filter as the GS300. Thanks for your video. It is because of this that I was able to. Thanks man!
@urkkik5 Thanks for the compliment, that was my first time changing the oil myself. I was really curious about how the oil filter looks like on the Lexus.
1. Is it necessary to drain the oil from the filter canister? I understand if I bypass this step I will spill oil from the canister but I can shoose not to drain from the canister right?
2. Do you just need to hand tight the canister? It wont become loose?
@evolved0 It's not necessary but it is probably a lot less messier that way. I hand tightened the canister just like a regular oil filter. It's been over a month and there are no oil leaks or drips :) hope that answers your questions.
Very helpful!! Thanks so much.

Is this the same process for the is250?
superdrdre 3 months ago
@superdrdre Not sure. It's possible that the IS has a standard oil filter, making the process even easier.

I used Merlin tricks to disappear from the camera after I put the ramps in place.
