He said that in those interview he did say that the Iranian fatwa was according to Islamic laws but he never meant to back the Iranian government in their fatwa.

These pictures are very likely representative of Iran today. My parents are from there and they visit often. It is a great place with many beautiful sites to see, including the origins of civilization - not to mention the people are so kind - even if you are a stranger. I have been there myself and I hope to go back soon.
