  • Willow and his kind are not called Dwarves. The proper term is a Nelwyn and normal sized people were called Daikinis by the Nelwyn race.

  • Very cool game, the graphics remind me Super ghouls n ghosts =D

    sorry for my bad english

  • 9:43 Cool, it's "Pump Up" from DIVERGENCE EVE!

  • Wow, this brings back so many memories. Couldn't get enough of willow when I was a little girl. Thanks for posting :)

  • How did yu get that copy of Willow the arcade game? I can't find one anywhere. I want to buy one, but its like impossible. I would rather have it on home console, but i want the arcade version, not the rpg aka watered down version. Thanks!

  • @YahwehUnderground you just need to grab the emulator from mameui.info and find the rom (willow.zip) on a mame rom site.

  • I could win this entire game on one life when it was in the arcade years ago.

Easy game imo. Used to play it waiting my turn for sf2 original in the arcade, which I was also nearly impossible to beat. I guess I was a pro at al game :) I would stomp all the asshole korean/chinese players in nyc area too :)

  • You're wrong. It did get one console port; An RPG for the NES. Sure, it wasn't anything like the arcade, but it WAS a Willow game.

  • @Asalieri I am not wrong if this exact game was not released on any consoles. A port is when they take the same game and reprogram it to work on another platform.

  • @gamemaster14neo Actually, a port is simply when they take the title of the game and release it on another platform. This is why they call the terrible first TMNT game on the NES a 'port'.

Either way, it merited mentioning that Willow was on the NES.

  • @Asalieri In computer science, porting is the process of adapting software so that an executable program can be created for a computing environment that is different from the one for which it was originally designed (e.g. different CPU, operating system, or third party library). The term is also used in a general way to refer to the changing of software/hardware to make them usable in different environments.

  • @gamemaster14neo yeah, the term also has come to mean "software using the same name as it's basis on another platform" in some cases. Is it the correct definition? No. But the NES Willow is basically a port in that it is Capcom's game based on the same movie for the home console, which at that point wasn't geared towards arcade games.

Was it worth mentioning? I think so.

  • @Asalieri I have never heard of a port being a completely different game of the based on the same movie or property. The definition of a game being a port has always been the same game brought to another platform from what I understand and have never seen anything to prove the contrary.

  • @gamemaster14neo well, anyhow, just thought you should have mentioned it, at least.

  • @Asalieri That is not true a port is when you take the same game and put it on another console, and maybe have to lower the graphic if it was from arcade to NES for example. But this willow and the one on NES is to different games, NOT PORTS

  • @wonamik Fair enough. I thought it bore mentioning, at least.

  • They had this game in the Cape Coral,Del Prado Mall movies, man I spent some money there.

  • thanks so much for the quick reply! (((hoping it comes out to consoles)))

  • Use to play this at my local bowling alley. Solid game. Any way this gonna be released on xbl, psn or vc? Thanx for the post!

  • @Pottsquito I could only see it being released on consoles if capcom wanted to do it which there is no news as of this moment.

  • The music in this game is done by none other than Takashi Tateishi, better known as Ogeretsu Kun. If his name sounds familiar to you, he was one of the music composers for Mega Man 2. And the only other game I know of that he worked on other than this game and Mega Man 2 is the arcade game LED Storm.

  • I always enjoyed the music of megaman 2, infact sometimes when I am at work one of the songs from it gets randomly stuck in my head.

  • I use to play this at a local grocery store back in the day. It still looks very good..graphics wise gotta be top notch back then. I'm gonna try it again.

  • Its kinda weird that Willow can shoot fire balls in this game. I've only seen bits and pieces of the movie, but what i can recall... he could not use magic at all! XD I mean he could do magic tricks, but not actual magic itself.

Because there's a big difference between being a wizard, and being a mere magician. But that was kinda the point of Willow after all. :P

  • I remember playing this game years back and the film was great too.^^

  • One of the better games on MAME. You should review Osman. I messaged you about it, best game no one has played.

  • Osman is on the list, the review should be up eventually.

  • the music is terrible and repetetive, and you cant climb a ladder but have to awkwardly jump on a ledge, its like something from AVGN. one of the best games on MAME, how many you played? 2, this and 3 stooges?

  • AVGN is mainly for entertainment, he over focuses on the negative so its funny. James has even gone on record saying he kinda liked a few of the games that the nerd has torn apart.

As far as beat'em ups go this one is atleast decent and stands out a bit from the crowd.

  • im not saying your like AVGN, im saying the game has some AVGN moments like the ladder thing, and that guy says its one of the best mame games

  • better games?ive played it and it certainly isnt one of the better games no-one has played, more like an average game people dont remember. one of the better games on MAME it is not!

  • I had no idea this game even existed!

  • Thanks for the Review.

  • I had no idea there was a Willow arcade game!

    Nice review dude.
