If that wasp was alive he would have sting the shit out of that mantis and lay in egg in him & buried his ass for being religious...i want to thank u all for geting that joke.
that's stupid.... it looked like the yellow jacket was already dead on the surface, (pre-arranged), before the mantis grabbed for it. (And before that, the yellow jacket was alive but behind the glass...with no real fight either.) Lame....
I think this is a Hierodula multispina. I had two of that species that looked exactly alike. From the coloration on the abdomen, the shape of the eyes, the eyespot on the wing and the shape of the pronotum. I cannot quite tell, but I think there might be white teeth on the fore-arm.
The one distinctive feature of Mantis religiosa, eye spots on the inside of the fore-arms, is missing in this mantis.
@grafffan for food, Mantis Nymphs (babies) eat aphids (the little bugs you see all over plants), fruit flies, ants, pretty much any living bug smaller than it. you can also try digging up some earth worms.
Yah praying mantis are easily the cutest insects ever... next are the pill bugs... until you look how disgusting they really are with all those legs... *shudders*
That mantis ain't dumb yo, it's like "Dude, I know your just holding a stick and moving it, knock it off. Man, WTF?! Why you poking my feet with that! DUDE!!!". lol.
thats a pretty bias statement, jus cuz u dont like roaches u automaticaly hate these elegant lookin critters? i seen one in person and its beau-t-ful!
Hey I got a question for everyone here. I live in Alaska and they do have these at Pet Co here. If i get one will it survive? What does it require? Cause they look really smart and pretty cool

I like the fact that one pseudopupil seems bigger than the other, one seems cute and innocent, the other is shrunken and merciless.

shes still cute though
