man wtf? what do you mean by: Making of "Dubai Metro" : Special Effects : Behind the Scenes ??? Dubai Metro is a movie? wtf man? put some info there cause this video is strange!
I think it would have been cooler to have the original bedouins reach the edge of the city and as the camera zooms in you see that the camels are actually Borg-like creatures that begin linking up to form a modern subway car the people then walk into and zoom off into the city.
Foreigners only put down your wonderful "nation" because you locals are racists. Islam teaches us that everybody is equal., yet you lick European/US asses while you treat peopl from Asia like dirt!
did i say "all" locals are racists? the ones, mostly the ones that arent born with a silver spoon up their asses, living in RAK, Ajman and poorer emirates are quite friendly. Its the rich ones that are the snobby ones. And lets not forget that if an Indian and a British are equally qualified for a job, then the Brit gets a salary that is triple or even more than what the indian gets!
It's just sad to see so much money wasted simply to create a temple to humanities most banal emotions: pride and greed. What would it look like if they'd spent the money building the world's greatest universities, research parks, and greenest infrastructure? What sort of jobs are created by hotels, shopping, and playgrounds? What sort of people does that opportunity attract? Dubai could have become a temple to humanities search for truth; deeply nutritious instead of just an empty amusement.
ananiasacts. The UAE is not only about tall buildings. A little research would show that the nation's founder Shk Zayed, vision for the UAE was for a complete renaissance, not just oil/tourism.
Today we hav some of the largest universities and academic parks in the region. (Knowledge Village and Academic City in Dubai). We are also pioneering several environmental initiatives and home to the headquarters for the International Renewable Energy Agency amongst many other things....
Thanks. That's good to know. They don't publicize it much. This is the first time I've heard of those places and I've been watching news bits from Dubai since they started building some 6 years ago or so. I guess it just seems so out of character for an Islamic culture. Of all the things to import from the west, who could have guessed that ostentatious opulence would be the most noteworthy.
I'm not against the metro. I'm surprised they didn't build a lot more underground stuff simply because it's a cheap way to beat the heat and we have the technology to bring sunlight deep underground, even creating the illusion of real time windows if we wanted. I know the best way to undermine the damaging side effects of religion is via good education, cultural exposure and a vibrant zeitgeist. The Islamic nations actually have a big advantage in starting with so little infrastructure.
i notice that you are refering alot to the religion... well in UAE we are so much to attached to Islam, and you would sense that if you ever been here,, hence we are developing,, cus Islam encourage development and Education..
well they would do anything just to beat heat,,it seems that you never experienced the UAE weather in summer... you would know a new meaning to heat..
We actually have a place here in California, called Death Valley, that might be a close second to what it's like there. I've been too embarrassed by the truly reprehensible foreign policies of my own government to wish to visit one of the places we have been so criminally unfair to. But we finally have a president who seems anxious to reverse that trend and is doing some very wise things. (called Government 2.0 or Open Government if you want to check it out.) I blog about how we can grow closer.
They don't really need much infrastructure, their religion makes the most sense.
I am not Muslim, or Christian, I don't categorize myself into any religion, but Islam makes a lot more sense than reincarnation or believing is some guy that was killed and resurrected. Most of the other religions have been replicated time and time again since ancient Egypt but Islam has not been rewritten, overwritten, or contains different versions, there is only 1.
@crimsonlung, I don't think it's compatible with science. For god to be worth worshiping he has to have some sort of power. But by explaining our world in purely materialistic terms science has deeply empowered us in ways our ancestors, who were enlightened by god, couldn't even dream of. With the side effect that there isn't any room left for god's will to be expressed on matter or energy. And that suggests that religions divide us needlessly and are, at best, psychological placebos.
I whole heartedly agree, and I preach this on the regular. I don't have a religion, nor will I ever, science can explain every aspect of life, in fact, I wish science was our religion. Religion is a false hope for the weak minded, and its a gateway for the people who know this to make money of the weak. Millions of untaxed dollars a year filter through religion.
but if to the environment comment, then bicycles are good and useful but only in winter time here, when the weather is cool. however in summer you will never think of using it as the temp could get to 48C. so metro was a great help for ppl as decreased the traffic problem
