  • This is the first vedio that gave me a clear understanding of all three...thank you for the clarity.

  • thanks so much for this great explanation. howcome noone tells you this? now I finally understand.

  • Thank you, very helpful.

  • On1 or On2 is REAL PUERTO RICAN....REMEMBER PUERTORICAN ARE EVERY WERE....QUE VIVA LA SALSA

  • this was really helpful thank you!!!! :)

i'm not sure if i will ever be able to dance on 2, it feels so different

  • This video is so helpful, thank you! I finally understand the difference between salsa on 1 and salsa on 2! And, now I know what mambo is also! Thanks!

  • I personally feel that if you learn "Salsa on 1" first or "Salsa on 2" first it will not make learning the other dance any easier.

Mambo breaks on 2. There may be different sytles of Mambo. Mambo done in ballroom breaks forward on the Left foot on 2.

Salsa on 2 (NY Style) - breaks back R on 2. Maybe this could be called "NY Mambo".

  • This is my thoughts.

You can dance "in clave" or "out of clave". A good dancer will move their body (shoulders, rib cage, feet etc...) to the rythmn you feel the clave gives you. So it doesn't matter if you are breaking with or without the clave or if you highlight it or not.

NY Style, LA Style and Mambo may or may not follow the clave depending on if the clave is 2-3 or 3-2.

So you can go on 2 and follow the tumbao or go on 1 and follow the clave it is on 1 - doesn't matter.

  • Question : Perez Prado's Cuban Mambo Original - is always dance onbeat/ on time, NY Mambo is on2. Why? Does it follow the clave? Cause in the 60s and 70s Son-Guaracha (popular on the airwaves) which represent much of the Puerto-Rican based Salsa is 3-2. So if you go on2 it has to follow the tumbao (slap space double bass on the Conga) but the rhythm always lock around the clave. Can clarify?

  • On 2 IS MAMBO and is most popular in NYC. If you can learn On2 you can dance On1. But if you only learn On 1, you'll have problems dancing On2. I dance both, but have never heard his count for the On2 done this way or made a distinction between Mambo and On2.

  • thank you!!!!

  • Very useful video. Great explanations. Thanks a lot!!!

  • Salsa on 2 is different that Salsa on 1 so there could be a problem dancing with someone who only dances Salsa on 1 if you do on 2. In most areas Salsa on 1 is the most common. Having said that, I think it is a good idea to learn both Salsa on 1 and on 2. The moves are the same it is just the footwork to the music that is different.

  • so if i learn on 2, is it gonna be a problem to dance with somebody that learnt on 1?

  • Very simple and nice ★★★★★

  • Great explanation man! Thanks! :D)

  • what do u teach on1 or on2??

  • I teach on1 and I believe in most areas of the US that is the most prevelant. This Youtube video shows all 3.

  • 0o0 ok but like do you have on2 workshops??

  • whatever...

  • thank you

  • I have been wondering about this as well, Thanks. Now only if i could match the numbers to the beats in the music

  • try to match moves on mesures and forget the numbers when you dance

  • Thanks!!! I have been wondering this for so long and no one I asked could tell me in a clear way
