Caroline remains one of the few politicians in the House of Commons to be fluent in the language of common sense and reason, she makes all positive points, point I would want my government to champion, she is critical of the EU, and the process by which UK became a part of it, without a referendum, while remaining positive about the democratic process and highlighting some of the benefits membership to an EU would have to democracy. I would like to see the Greens run the UK for 4years.
I don't fully understand how can the Greens possibly support, in a way, the EU, considering the mess they have caused with the agriculture and fishing policies, not to mention the Climate Change tale.
Love the way she talked for 3mins 59sec and no one could be arsed intervening, in other words, no one was listening and no one was interested in the Green Party view... Save your breath love and go plant some tree's...
She might be in favour of the E.U. and other things you might not like but at least she believes giving the people a say on the E.U, that's a much better position to be in than pretending you want to repatriate powers then vote against a referendum on the E.U... so in this case, well done Caroline Lucas!
@1scot4scotland The UK lets its people vote on leaders who decides how it is run. The EU lets its people vote for who gets to obey them, ignoring voter concerns and implimenting EU decree.
she's pro-EU, same as the other anti-british, globalist scum (Lib/Lab/CON)
IMO there's only one party whom has britains interests at heart: UKIP.
but of course the mainstream will never allow them to get into power.
We're stuck with the complacent, apathetic "ConDems" whom will continue to siphon our laws and powers to brussels (despite cameron pretending to be "euro-skeptic" before he got in)
@SteveFusionX Doesn't change the fact that she wants us to be able to vote on it . Some people do fancy the idea of a peaceful social Europe whilst some others don't.... the only way to solve this question is through a free democratic referendum. Everything else amounts to an elected dictatorship. I for once would vote yes to staying in the EU but you would obviously have every right to disagree with me.
You mention "democracy" several times (in both your comments) and how important democracy is, and being able to VOTE.
Yet you are PRO-eu?!
EVERYTHING the EU stands for is AGAINST democracy.
The more powers given to brussels, the bigger the "government" is, the LESS say we have in our own country. There is nothing democractic about the EU.
It's a revolting mess, run by unelected bureaucrats and is destroying once great, soverign nations.
@SteveFusionX Sorry , but we have vetoing powers in the council. Whether we have national referendums is a question that is to be decided by national governments , nothing to do with the EU. You should consider that some countries did profit greatly from the EU. Germany and the Benelux states for example were able to realise growth rates that were unimaginable before the treaty of Maastricht.
" some countries did profit greatly from the EU. Germany and the Benelux states for example were able to realise growth rates that were unimaginable before the treaty"
Are you for real?? countless, ex-soverign nations have been DESTROYED by this (and how many billions have WE, in the UK wasted on this disgusting experiment?)
Greece, portugal, Ireland, spain... to name a few are in a dire state now.
@SteveFusionX "the majority want out of the EU" because they have no idea what is the truth and what is not. A lot of what the Daily Mail and co say is flat out incorrect. The EU provided dependable and prosperous trading partners with few barriers and provides fantastic human rights protection. In the US you are allowed to be stopped and searched, imprisoned without trial. The fact you can't here is solely down to the EU. Its so embarrassing how poor our human rights protection is compared.

whilst I don't agree with Caroline's Pro Europe stance I admire her for supporting a referendum and being prepared to consult the public

A 3 line whip to stop the majority of the British public from having their say in their future. Democracy is Britain is now dead.

this is why I didn't vote green party in the election; her pro-globalist, pro-EU stance is revolting.
The majority want OUT of the EU, for many obvious reasons.
There are no real benefits to OUR country, from remaining in this failed, elitist project.

@SteveFusionX
You know you probably sound just like a scot in the 1700's when Scotland and England were forced into union.

@1scot4scotland
I don't mind unification if it genuinely benefits the people of a country (rather than the ruling elite)
the EU is a step towards global-government - which is why the people will never be given a choice about it.
Our "leaders" in power are just puppets and never have our best interests at heart.
They promise referendums when they want to get into power, then as soon as they're in; they make excuses.
