I'm worried because i have a dental issue i need to get taken care off , broken molar and im hesitate to put it on my CC, i have insurance but i still have to pay like 2k even with it.
Haha. I am seriously going to make a huge payment on my credit card right now just to pay it down quickly.
I really want to see a photo of Michael and his husband together. I feel like I want to Google to find one, but that seems creepy-stalkerish. Do you have any you've posted yourself, Buck!?
Kohl's seriously has really good store credit cards. The interest rate is extremely low and it can give you "Kohl's Cash" (worth just as good as cash in-store) as well as 10-30% your purchase/ every time.
Listen to Michael, folks! Credit cards and charge cards are wonderful if people know how to use them as a financial tool. If you don't have the money to pay for the item(s), just leave it for another day. I love my AMEX because of the points. Instead of just writing out a check for bills, etc, I just use the card and pay it off IN FULL at the end of the month. Great vlog, Michael! Sorry to go on, but my career is in finance. lol
i think in store credit cards are stupid why not just get one card and use it wherever instead of having like 2-3 credit cards that you don't need.like walmart has a mastercard and they force it on you cause you can save 20% just for that day & then what your stuck with a card that you didn't want in the first place.i always say no and just walk away i don't need a second credit card and plus i 'm happy with my credit card that i have and i can always change my credit limit
I will never get a store card and credit cards are for when I'm making good amount of money!!! I am bad enough trying to pay and bills at college without credit cards! Wahh haha!! x
Most young people here actually need cc's solely for the fact that the wanna order stuff online from the UK or the US with is only possible with cc's.
Also you have to have pretty good bank records to get a card. Until recently you just needed to be at the same job for 3 months and then you'd get a visa classic or something but if you had some troubles you can work for two years on not get one...
We don't have that thing called minimum payment in Austria.. or even the Rest of Europe. Usually you can buy stuff from the 1st to last of the month and it will be automatically withdrawn from your bank account the 15th of the next month. So The longest you can borrow anything would be 6 weeks. Very few banks give you that minimum amount due options. Because here you also usually get your credit cards issued through your bank. Also people under 18 don't get them except their parents put them on
My main card is Macys it's for the store and a credit card. I say get a store credit card if you do shop there alot and if the perks are good. I shop there often and receive rewards and coupons which I combine to get really good deals. Even got a pair of sandals practically free ,super cute 3inch high heels. It's exciting for me, making such wonderful purchase. I always pay my balance every month. If anyone gets a credit card always pay full balance. I did have a checking/debit card but
@Jokris713 didn't get my first credit card till late 20s all the indebt stories I heard scared me away. when I was sure on how payments and interest work I felt I would be fine knowing that I would never just pay a minimum I would always do full. That's how you get all the bennefits because if you get all those discounts but only pay the mini and get charged interest fees then whats the fun in t hat.
I always tell eveyone I know- If you dont have the cash in the bank to pay for it, you dont need it. If you want something save for it and pay it cash. That way you have no interest, no payments, no missed payments and it is paid in full. I got myself in debt with store credit cards when i was younger and the interest rate on them is ridiculous- not worth the 10% or the coupons you get for using their cards. Tell them nooooooo thank you. See ya!!!
I don't have a credit card (I'm 16) but I have a debit card. When I have had the same amount of money on it for quite a while I try not to use it unless its an emergency of I'm just out of cash. As for credit cards, I always thought my parents were weird because they hardly everrrrr use their credit card they only use checks and cash. but we don't have credit card debt. and my mom (even though I use it too) has a Macy's card, thats the only store card we have.
I'm 19 and have a credit and debit card. I'm using the credit card to get good credit so I'll be able to buy a new/slightly used truck. I use it for gas and other expenses and then pay it ALL back at the end of the month every month. My mom used to be horrible with money and I think that made me really good with what I make now.
I have had a debt card since i was like 8 and a credit card 2 days after my 18 birthday i am very good and mostly use it when i go to the states (im in canada) my dad told me to get one because he had a friend who tried to buy a house but didnt have a credit history and i mined as well start making one now
there is this thing called debit card linked to visa its a debit card that can be used as a visa but it takes your money out of your chequing account wich is great when you travel around the globe!!! its everywhere in europe and now coming to canada !!
Will you make a vid about how you got your start with writing. I've read all of your Sisters Grimm books to date. I started back when I was in 3rd grade (I'm in 7th now) because my teacher would read them for read allowed because on of your nieces (or so she said) was in our class
I love my Discover card because of the cashback rewards. They also have great promotional low interest rates. Just call in and check. Another good tip is if your interest rates are high, call your cc company and ask if they can lower the rates. I have done it in the past. If you never ask, you'll never know!
I was at The Gap a few weeks ago and they were pushing those cards on everyone! I asked the woman what she expected a 16-year-old boy to do with a Gap card, but she just kept trying to explain the (dubious) benefits. I have a debit card linked to the account where I deposit my tutoring money, and it works perfectly for me.
I get the store cards for the discount and then cut them up and never use them.
I used to do the same thing with my credit card I'd either pay it off imedietly or use it for things like emergency doctor visit that I didn't have money for or new glasses when I broke my glasses. Then I'd pay it off asap
I've only had co-shared cards with my mom. And the one time I did apply for a card for myself just to have for emergencies, they DENIED ME. I have near perfect credit and I wanted the free skymiles. Oh well, I now have a line of credit on my debit card for those 'just in case' moments. I'm down to $10,000 in school loans.
I use a card where I can top up, so if I want to guy something off of amazon or ebay I put the amount on the card and spend it, it's run by visa so it can be used anywhere visa can be used
My mom has a Macy's card...she gets a lot of discounts and she keeps up on it all the time. i would do that, but i definitely love having a debit card instead of credit!
just got my first credit card through amazon.com. I only got it so that i could gain some credit history. I got a $400 limit but i'll only be using it on small purchases like coffee and eating out n stuff. Thanks for posting, it was perfect timing for me!! love you, buck :D
lol your so great and I would really love a credit card just to have one I know i know how to manage my money and stuff and it'd be so much easier and more fun to have one.
I just got a credit card (going into second year university, holla!) but my parents don't have one. They had a bunch of problems with it in the past so they refuse to get one now, which made it really difficult since so many things you can only pay for with a credit card, including university applications! I pay mine off online as soon as it shows up on my bank account.
i dont use credit card ~(im 14 :L im pretty sure im far too young) but both my parent do and they always say how responcible they are and you should alway make sure to pay off the credit cards every month a never miss a payment cus they have ridiculous interest rates...theirs is through their bank i think
I work with Autistic children as well!!! I would love it if you did a video on working with these kids. What your favorite thing about working with them. What your learned about yourself working with them. It's been a passion and a joy of mine to work with these kids. I love my job.
i'm 25 and only got my first credit card this year specifically for earning a good credit score. i use it in place of my debit card for a few purchases and then pay it all off at the end of each month. i know it's not free money but money i will owe back, with interest, so i won't use it to buy anything i can't already afford. i think it's important to live within your means. people act as if they're owed things just because other people have them, but they're not.
My personal finance teacher says credit cards are much better than debit cards because you have less liability. She also says don't just keep switching cards for the year of 0% interest, because part of your credit score is the length of time you've had a specific line of credit. Oh, and final tidbit always read fine print to see what happens if you make a mistake; and if you make a mistake how willing the people are going to be to work with you. Oh p.s. credit unions are better than banks!
I don't have a credit card (or a debit, but that's another story), but if I ever get one I'd be getting one through one of the local banks rather than through a credit card company.
I have a debit card, and my allowance gets sent to my account automatically each week, but every month I have to transfer $25 from my checking to my savings account. I definitely think that it's helped me with money management and I will hopefully never go into debt when I get a credit card.
oh goodness I can't handle credit cards. I moved out and started college and got a victorias secret card and macys etc, by the end of the year, I ended up owing 1000 bucks. I finally cut them up and paid them off and said so long to that! not worth the interest that gets added. I do cash and debit only now!
My mom has a sears bill for like 4 thousands dollars. And over the years she has already payed 8 thousand on a 4 thousand dollar bill! That is theft!!! I hate credit cards!
All i have is my bank card and they have a thing where if i choose credit i get 1 point for every 3 dollars i spend! It still takes the money out of my bank account it just pends for a longer period of time. it's great!! :)
i also opened a sears card once for a big purchase (expensive watch) so i got 20% off. when the card finally came in the mail i cut it up. i don't shop at sears often, but if they want to offer me 20% off a large one-time purchase, i'm taking it.
i have a mother who has connections to the TD bank up here in canada. i'm only 21 and probably have had a credit card since i was 16 that i had to manage on my own. i've never not paid it off. i put almost everything i buy on it and pay it off at the end of the month for points. however, my grandma was an accountant and i'm fairly good with handling money, even as a university student. credit cards really aren't for everyone. it's not free money. don't pay off the minimum balance!
I've managed my own money completely since I was 13, and got a credit card when I was 16. I'm 19 now and have 2 credit cards for my 2 separate bank accounts, and it works great for me. I've never overcharged my cards, and I really don't see why some people have such a hard time with NOT over-charging. Spend what you have, and not what you don't.
I got my first job when I was 14. Started full time that summer. I'm 15 now and have held the same job for a year and a half. I am working full time through the school year so I can save for college, etc. I'm able to work full time because I'm home schooled so I work during the day and study at night. Never had a credit card, instead got my first debit card at 14. First thing I bought was a Juicy Couture bag and hair extensions. I'm afraid of debt so I don't want a credit card... ever. :P
I'm 15 and I do have a credit card (for emergencies). It's linked to my parents account so it's all there money. With having this card I need there permission to use it and they trust me bc I'm trust worthy, also I have to take a finance class at school. I think it's a good thing and since I'm learning early I'll be able handle it as I changed to my own account. I feel I won't be as naive as I could be about it if my parents didn't trust at a young age.
@anonne6 certain types of debt are good (education, housing, etc.) and others are bad. credit card debt is the WORST because the interest is so high. if you need money and there is no way you can live not in debt, try getting rid of the debt first with the highest interest. it's eating your money away. it's hard (especially now), but there are ways to improve, always!
I'm $500 in debt right now and it's ALWAYS stressing me out. I work and pay it off a little every paycheck, but it never really seems to get closer to being paid off. :(
Oh god, if this is stressful, I can only imagine what it's going to be like paying my college loans back. :(:(:(
@rawratyourfacex2 I *TOTALLY* feel your pain! Im in debt a bit, a Wellsfargo card as well as a Best Buy card... Ugh.. Working on paying those off- I can't even FATHOM what its gonna be like to have to pay my student loans off, it terrifies me...
store cards are totally useless because of the interest, and there is no perks. always get a card w/ perks like cash back or points-- but only if u know u are responsible enough to pay it off each month.
i'm horrible with my credit cards. i had to cut up my store card because i kept forgetting to pay the bill. it's as if it didn't exist. lol! i currently have 2 with HORRIBLE interest rates and i feel trapped by them. i hate it so much. goal = credit card debt free by 2013. :)
I'm 15 years old girl and theres this guy. I've known him forever. We do gymnastics at the same gym but im 2 levels above him. He recently started to come to my ballet school because his coach said that he needs help with his balance. We were talking one day and it came out that we both like each other. The problem is hes a year younger than me and all my friends say thats really awkward. I really like him and i dont know what to do. please help
@breecote go out with him honey! a year difference is not too bad! if you two like each other and its not awkward when your together as friends then it probably wont be awkward on a date or something!
@breecote Why do you care what your friends think? It's your love life. Real friends will support you in anything you do and will always have your back. If you really like this guy, and you've implied that he has a general interest in you too, then I say go for it! If you don't, i'm pretty sure you're going to regret it later. Age doesn't matter. (:
I had a discorver card when I was 18. I was pretty good at paying it off and was never late. We now have a cabelas card and EVERYTHING goes on the card so we cab get points back lol gass, food, clothes, cells, internet everything except my house payments and I pay it off at the end of the month. I never carry a balance : ) It prob drives the cc companies crazy becuase they dont get intrest lol I did have a target card 7 years ago and I loved it so much lol I only have 1 cc now : )
Hi i'm 15 and this year I've got to hang out more with one of mine old best friends and i'm starting to like him as more than a friend. I also think he might have some feelings the same for me but i'm afraid to say anything because i don't want to mess up our friendship. But I don't know what will happen because I'm "big" and no one really likes me like that. What should I do?
I paid off both of my VISA and Mastercard credit cards 3 years ago thankfully. I only had 2 store cards Lord & Taylor's and Spiegel cards...that I paid as I used them then let them close. Now I only have 1 credit card TD Bank VISA and 2 debit cards that I load money to b4 I buy. I mentioned in another video that I work for Williams- Sonoma and we now have a Williams Sonoma Visa credit card...so I'll have 2 now. It's cool b/c it can be used anywhere other than the store.
I dont trust store cards, adn i use credit under protest! I hear to many bad luck stories its off putting. Debit cards and master cards you have what you put in and not a penny over! however credit cards do give you more cover on some things.
Though i think they should come with a public wealth warning (play on words there!) "if missused may cause Debt, Repossession, court action or Bankruptcy, not suitable for everyone, please check the small print!"
Using a credit card responsibly early in life and getting good credit is a good idea though. I know a lot of people get caught in the debt loop but if you keep on top of it: it's going to be so much easier to get approved for loans you'll need for car/house in the future! That's the only reason I have and use a credit card.
When I was in 7th grade, I had a geography teacher warn our class against credit cards and how easy it is for people just out of high school to get into debt. I never got one. However, lately I've been considering getting one because my job is seasonal - and on months like this one, between semesters, I am extra broke, but I'm still hesitant to get one even though it might be worth it (buy groceries, pay, build credit?) Also, online pay options are the best.
I really don't understand why credit cards exist?! They just give an illusion of more money than someone can afford and the debt will only get bigger at 20% apr or whatever, proving that they cannot in any way afford this new debt with the credit card company
i'm currently 17 and going into my senior year of highschool. i've been told that getting a credit card as soon as you turn 18 is a good idea because you need a good credit score to get an apartment while in college??? is this true?
@BubblyViolin11 Not necessarily. College towns know that you don't have credit. In my experience, complexes usually expect your parents sign on as a guarantor.
My mom had a sears, ikea, and target gift card and it took her years to pay them off! About a fourth of what she was paying monthly was actually going towards the card, the rest was interest.
my mom has a card for jcpenny's because it is the only "big" store close to were i live. and she has a card for scheels because i have a lot of siblings and we are all into sport. but those are the only store cards i think she has.
i have one credit card that is linked to my account. but i put my account with a 0€-limit, meaning i cant go into debt. and i really like, i usually dont use it though cause i pay fees when paying with my credit cards but dont pay any with my debit card. i need it for some online shops and i got it for free, but the debit card is way more convenient, at least here in germany :) so, yeah i totally agree with @SteltekOne-i dont get how credit card are so big in the us and we dont really use them..
I will never understand why credit cards are such a big deal in America. Here in Europe, you go and get a single one, typically from your bank, and anything you pay with it is auto-debited each month. You really have to go out of your way to switch it to 'not auto-pay' and rack up interest on it and I really do not know anybody with more than one card. (business credit cards/cards for separate accounts excluded of course...)
I think there are cases where a credit card is useful such as staying in hotels. In Canada when you go to a hotel they like to have a credit card so they can pre-authorized a payment. you don't have to pay with credit it's just for their security. Also it's nice to have money incase of emergency.
I only use a debit card. I do own a credit card but I only use it for traveling purposes, a debit card may not be accepted abroad and when it does the bank charges fees....so is just more convenient.
@DancingChakra im not sure what you call it in the us, bu in ireland it basicly a card and every peice of the money on the card is in your bank account so its your money your spending with the card...im really bad at explaining things sorry XD
I'm an 18 year old girl starting college this fall and I only use a debit card and cash. I don't even have checks. I am planning to get a credit card this year though, just for emergencies, w/ my mom's name on it as well. I kinda wish I could just use cash for everything... haha.
i just got my first credit card. If you are trying to build credit at an early age its a great idea. i have had a debit card for years, and will basically use the credit card the same way, and pay it off every month in full. Great idea if ur planning to get a car on your own down the road and dont want someone (ur parents...) to have to cosign!!
I have a credit card only because I need it to be able to get credit. But I subtract the amount I spend from my checking account. So I use it like my debit card. And pay it off at the end of the month. So that when I need to buy a house or get a loan, I can.
All I have is a Macys card and an amazon card with a huge limit for emergencys not related to internet purchases lol., I like it cuz they give you coupons tailored to your past purchases. Yeah the interest rate is like 23%, but I never buy stuff unless I have money in my account.
I wish i had a job. Its kind of hard to find a job in NYC when you have no experience what so ever. Well..unless you want to work in a department store. But i dont think that suites me very well.
My boyfriend is literally obsessed and addicted to credit cards and ALL cards. he has over 15 credit cards... debt cards. revolving cards. and of course he have every store card he could possibly get.
And of course he has over 30 000 dollars of debt towards many banks.
I hate credit cards, I hate banks.they're all evil!
And my BF is stupid!!!! I tried everything to make him stop.
He's working now and paying off the debt slowly, but it'll take him over 10 years to pay it all up.
I've actually never had a credit card. I got a debit card a while ago and never really considered getting a credit card too. I think it's mostly cause I'm a big spender, my parents put like a thousand dollars a month in my debit card and I always spend it all in a flash. A credit card would be horrible for me. I was also raised to not like the concept of credit cards - it's always been like if you have the money use it, if you don't then save up 'till you do - no loans and no credit.
My first credit card was for victorias secret lol.. They said even if it dosn't go through you'll save money on the purchase and I figured they wouldn't give the card to me because I had no credit but it did! Now I have a bank credit card and I don't really use it, I just use my debit card because I'm not good with paying bills haha.
I use cash for everything, can't stand using a card, any card. Why should I pay them interest when I can use cash & save that money, really. I don't give a rats ass about a credit rating.
@dbzmiri I already have my home paid off & never plan on moving. Maybe you should read the very fine tiny print on those agreements about interest & service charges. I checked my parent's credit card bill (they pay it off every month) and there is a service charge & interest of the amount charged. You may just have a really fantastic bank that isn't out for the money (yeah right, like that would happen). I think cash is the best way to go the way things are going in this country right now.
Omg! So its not just me! F****** discover card! I got one in college too and I still have no idea what I spent $500 on. Anywho, its almost paid in full and I will be ripping it up.
at my local book shop for teens under 16 you can join there club and you like get a card and every time you go and show the card you get 10 % off you dont pay anything :D the club was free to join no probs so far and i have had it for a year :P

Kohl's seriously has really good store credit cards. The interest rate is extremely low and it can give you "Kohl's Cash" (worth just as good as cash in-store) as well as 10-30% your purchase/ every time.

i think in store credit cards are stupid why not just get one card and use it wherever instead of having like 2-3 credit cards that you don't need.like walmart has a mastercard and they force it on you cause you can save 20% just for that day & then what your stuck with a card that you didn't want in the first place.i always say no and just walk away i don't need a second credit card and plus i 'm happy with my credit card that i have and i can always change my credit limit

I love my Discover card because of the cashback rewards. They also have great promotional low interest rates. Just call in and check. Another good tip is if your interest rates are high, call your cc company and ask if they can lower the rates. I have done it in the past. If you never ask, you'll never know!

Nope, just debit cards.

I just got a credit card (going into second year university, holla!) but my parents don't have one. They had a bunch of problems with it in the past so they refuse to get one now, which made it really difficult since so many things you can only pay for with a credit card, including university applications! I pay mine off online as soon as it shows up on my bank account.

i'm 25 and only got my first credit card this year specifically for earning a good credit score. i use it in place of my debit card for a few purchases and then pay it all off at the end of each month. i know it's not free money but money i will owe back, with interest, so i won't use it to buy anything i can't already afford. i think it's important to live within your means. people act as if they're owed things just because other people have them, but they're not.

Oh p.s. credit unions are better than banks!

i have a mother who has connections to the TD bank up here in canada. i'm only 21 and probably have had a credit card since i was 16 that i had to manage on my own. i've never not paid it off. i put almost everything i buy on it and pay it off at the end of the month for points. however, my grandma was an accountant and i'm fairly good with handling money, even as a university student. credit cards really aren't for everyone. it's not free money. don't pay off the minimum balance!

I've managed my own money completely since I was 13, and got a credit card when I was 16. I'm 19 now and have 2 credit cards for my 2 separate bank accounts, and it works great for me.

However, lately I've been considering getting one because my job is seasonal - and on months like this one, between semesters, I am extra broke, but I'm still hesitant to get one even though it might be worth it (buy groceries, pay, build credit?) Also, online pay options are the best.
eihsa 6 months ago
I really don't understand why credit cards exist?! They just give an illusion of more money than someone can afford and the debt will only get bigger at 20% apr or whatever, proving that they cannot in any way afford this new debt with the credit card company

SteltekOne 6 months ago 2
I think there are cases where a credit card is useful such as staying in hotels. In Canada when you go to a hotel they like to have a credit card so they can pre-authorized a payment. you don't have to pay with credit it's just for their security. Also it's nice to have money incase of emergency.

I have a credit card only because I need it to be able to get credit. But I subtract the amount I spend from my checking account. So I use it like my debit card. And pay it off at the end of the month. So that when I need to buy a house or get a loan, I can.

@TheCelticDave my card has no service charges that's why I got it... but I agree cash is best if credit scores don't matter anymore

I don't have a credit card, I have a debit card... I don't really know the difference, haha.
