@DaleJohnPorter You really should know what you're talking about if you want to make a comment like that. AE isn't free first of all. AE also doesn't do 3D effects. You could do do it w/ Maya for example, but the reason professionals still do real explosions whenever possible is because even the best CG pyro pales in comparison to the real thing... Especially explosions. Please show me an explosion you've done in AE / Maya / Houdini / 3DS / etc that looks even close to as good as this one.
