  • Phrasing.....PERIOD.

  • I call it the climax of the solo

  • oh man, the look on Tomo's face. Like it's the easiest in the world for him

  • @ThereWereHeroes Tomo is a world class player, that's easy for him.

  • @armannpals I know, thats what my comment imply ;)

  • @ThereWereHeroes implies*

  • written on my shirt: "What would John Mayer do?"

  • Who disliked this?? Seriously?

  • you're gonna go out there little song and sell this record

  • I'd be more terrified to solo over Tomo than to have John solo over me. :')

  • SUCH an important lesson.

  • i love how john stopped him..didnt wanna get shown up

  • @kjw1993 That guy he "stopped" was his guitar teacher - he's just as brilliant as John if not more and John knows it :)

  • @BarnVonDousel but he is not! Because he is Tomo Fujita! A legend himself.

  • This guy is 100% music & soul, and very good performer! :) Music are flow from him...

  • tomotomotomo

  • @voodoojam97 that lick in D major. 10th fret on the B and E string..hammer on to the 12th fret of the B. Then rake down to the 12th fret of the D string. After that..10th fret of the G and B string..hammer on to the 11th fret of the G string. Rake down to the 12th fret of the A string..followed by 10th fret then 9th fret of the A string

  • what does he play at 3:26 ... ?? REALLY COOL

  • I disagree with John to a certain point, I think when you improvise the fretboard should become transparent to you, and there should not be a formular for what to play. Its kinda like when you speak you don't think about what to say next or what your chord-string needs to do it just happens naturally.

  • He's saying to build an exciting story, with a great climax... Everyone loves a happy ending, right?!

  • Timmy47.. Come on, don't be smart. He has a major point!

  • @hedgyify he does and he doesnt. it REALLY depends on the song and should have made that clear. it works well for what he was playing over in the example, but not every song is a slow blues jam.

  • i love his guitar so much that i wanna cry and concider suicide because i don't have it...

  • he's actually pretty wrong about the whole dynamics thing. first of all, he didnt start on the highest note, you could go plenty higher. second, sometimes its good to start a solo on a strong point. third, sometimes it sounds good to start high and loud and then come down after. really he should have just said to listen. you have to listen to where the song is and whats going on and where its going and judge how you play from that.

  • @timmy47 dynamics don't concern pitch. dynamics concern volume, it doesn't matter what note he starts on, just how hard he hits it.

  • @andrushak yes i know. is there a better term i could have wraped up his whole lesson with? still, saying to start soft and get louder isnt always good advice. it worked for the backing here, but its not going to be true for every song. that was my point. he should have stressed more on the trying to "tell a story" and listening to where the song is, where its going, what everyone else is playing, etc... to construct a good solo rathere than "knowing your ceiling".

  • @timmy47 Oh, ok yes, I gotcha. I think he did say that, but in an unnecessarily round about way. He definitely could have summed it up a lot faster haha

  • @timmy47 agreed.

  • hmm I don't like the interpretation of dynamics, like it's meant to be low to high (well John didn't exacly put it that way, but still), but, it really doesn't matter what we think about music, it is just really amazing how he talks about it because it seems like he's enjoying the whole thing just as much as his records. It's quite rare, people are usually scared of ''art'' prefer to not talk too much, while it really doesnt matter. I mean what really matters is to be free about it.

  • thats btw the most pure notes of waiting on the world to change ive heard since live at webster hall xD and trust me, ive seen thouuussaaandds of john mayer live videos!

  • for some reason i feel like i just got better at guitar..

  • man, tomo is no joke...

  • i would be even more terrified if i had to solo over john mayer

  • he should have put this version on his album. so much better than the original!
