  • My Dad was also on PQ17 - on the minesweeper HMS Halcyon. He is in a Nursing home now but still remembers his time on the convoys.

  • my father had 5 years of that, they really went through it.

  • Very nice video, interesting to hear from a real vet who was on the Murmansk convoys.

  • Enjoyed watching your video.. My father was in the Murmansk run too. He said that when they got off in Murmansk they werent allowed to talk to the Russians. My father said he was lucky to get back to Liverpool because so many ships around him were sunk. In his diary he had at the time he wrote that the German were flying so low he could see the pilot laughing as he was shooting the US navy guys off the deck of the ship.

    They are hero's!!

  • Once - Stevens started laughing and I walked over to see what was so funny. He was pointing to a stream of bubbles in the water and thought it was funny. I was so shocked that I couldn't make a sound, I pointed to the Captian and the water,he realized that it was a torpedo headed for the convoy. He blew the whistle and turned the ship hard to port. The torpedo wasn't for us. It had missed us and hit a merchant ship. Smile and have fun. Ivo
