  • Wow the top comments are just plain dumb. Times New Viking is Lo-Fi how can this be over produce and yes it recorded by a potato that Lofi for you. You either a wannabe hipster who think they are music critique or a lame mainstream. People who spend too much time hating hipster are more annoying than an average hipster. Stop making hateful comments about a group of people and go get some pussy or some dick if swing that way. I love shitty sound music, I love indie, alternative, punk, or whatever

  • @ogdog187 A 'hipster' is someone who follows a big group of people, or a clic, to fit in with other 'hipsters' instead of being themselves. It's a big huge, pretentious, bearded group of people who follow eachother's 'coolness.' I'd have to disagree with you and say that hipsters are more annoying than people who hate them.

  • What, you want it to sound prettier so that they can use it in commercials? No fucking cigar, amigo.

  • 240p for best sound quality

  • Wait did that say ripple on that flag as in the grateful dead?

  • Sounds like it was recorded during a phone conference...

  • Like this raw sound!

  • This is the first time I've ever heard this band, but I'm guessing they're the only group around these days who sounds better live than they do on studio recordings.

  • Come on, people, get over this Hipster bullshit.

Lo-Fi is older than must of you.

  • cant even hear the fucking vocals, i demand this to be remastered BAD HIPSTERS!!!

  • FUCKING HIPSTERS

  • LO FI LOVE

  • LO FI

  • this band rules. i'm uploading a video of "no room to live" right now, but it's at vimeo dot com slash gonzochicago. i gave up on youtube. XOXO

  • wow, sounds and looks just like every other hipster band.

  • This one is my fav from them. Their other early stuff like End of All Things was too lo fi and the drums and vocals were barely audible.

  • I think these guys are my new favourite band. Either them or Vivian Girls.

  • stupid hipsters

  • @306gamerization

    only hipsters troll hipsters.... haha

  • too much low fi

  • @t3t0m3d1n4 There's no such thing as too lo-fi.

  • liking this very much, first time I hear them found them on twitter linked to Cold Cave, which I love

  • old times new viking sucks. New album is ok

  • its like it was made in the 80s

  • @lukyganesh

    No it is not.

  • recorded with a potato

  • No matter how much distorsion they put on the record, they really can't play.

    Hipsters.

  • One of our friends told us we sounded like these guys...I really don't think so, our sound is really different. Check out our channel for our first song! Thanks and Long Live Times New Viking!

  • Oh yeah, and the band did the funniest sound check the other night at the Boston show. So I suppose they just want to get to the point. No fussing around. It was hilarious. The Babies did a pretty in depth sound check earlier in the night and it showed during their performance. The Babies sounded fantastic, super tight and clear, where Time New Viking was just raw and dirty. They were both great though.

  • I don't think so. That's a common mistake made by new or inexperienced compositors. It's funny. It does kind of fit in with the DIY style of video, but the green spill is dead give away that they were in front of a green screen at one point. This was probably comped together quick like, and with a cheap compositor like Adobe After Effects.

  • hahahah.... look at the bad green screening around their silhouettes when they are playing. haha... whoever comped this video should be fired. de-spill your subjects and light wrap them with your background plate. that's comping fundamentals.

regardless, i'll be checking these guys out tonight in Boston.

  • @djkitt i think its supposed to be bad like that

  • this sucks

  • I wish I had wish I met him before he died........

    OH FLCK....

  • Get your 85B filter on, yo!

  • @qpr34 you mean Lo fi British garage bands? Check out Lovvers. Same low quality recording style.

  • Are there any british bands that do this sort of garage stuff ? I live in Exeter and it seems to be the worst place ever for music.

  • Are there any british bands that do this sort of garage stuff ? I live in Exeter and it seems to be the worst place ever for music.

  • This is so exciting for me to get to know new indie rock bands. I heard 'bout TNV actually from the "What's in My Bag? with Demetri Martin" video, and have got really curious. and fellas, i just wanna say this: There are fuckin' Zillion indie rock groups out there and everyday you discover even more. But finding the most unique, awesome and brilliant band that makes you feel like "Daaaaaaaaaaaamn, this is so gooooood, how haven't i heard this before?!" - Man, feels great

  • This is so fucking annoying...there are like 5.000 bands that sound exaclty like this nowadays...

  • @PhreakPhantom i like this kind of music so idc. to me, im happy with that lol

  • Anyone have any idea on what kinda camera was used to film this. I am really diggin the rustly 60's look.

  • @disasterology777 Super 8? That's the only name anybody knows for oldies/hipster cams.

  • It's indie Hijokaidan.

  • If you're focused on the quality, you're missing the point entirely. If you don't like Lo-fi, that's cool and all, but you can't tell me it doesn't have merit.

  • ew. i was seeing what all the hype with pitchfork was and well. wtf. is this supposed to be reflexive? is it rebellion against over production? i understand that kinda stuff in visual art, but music is supposed to sound good. i hate the mainstream but this is just garbage

  • Its just a shame such an awesome band name was wasted on another No Age/Wavves band

  • @Asti223 No Age and Wavves didn't invent No-Fi. Other, better No-Fi bands exist. Low quality =/= bad music instantly.

  • If you have a problem with lo-fi quality then you get the money together and pay for all these bands to get into high quality studios so that they can throw some auto tune on and sound like they've been jizzed on by lil pain. Respect the movement against mainstream. It goes all the way back to punk, noise, no wave.

  • i like it but they kinda over did it with the "trashy" sound

  • Since when did it become a style to purposely record something with a bad camera and microphone?

  • @Phlurpit Since people realized they had no actual talent and didn't want people to hear/see it. XD

I can't even hear the song! It's no doubt awful...

  • This craptastic band is so cliche, it is obvious that they go out of their way to abide by dipshit hipster dogma

  • This is absolute garbage. Three idiots who started a band with a name based on three random words, playing three instruments they can't play, and finally adding distortion setting it to full and somehow releasing it as a record. If this is all they can do then they have absolutely no talent at all, and it is proven since the only people that actually enjoy this crap are just as untalented, sad, homeless-looking hipsters.

  • @skruvjern times new viking is a play on times new roman. and it sounds like this on purpose, retard. there is plenty of music available, this should not be much of a bother to you.

  • @brendanbarryconroy Of course it sounds like this on purpose, it didn't accidentally happen that the music sounded like this. I know that there's plenty of music out there, but the thing that bothers me is that crap like this sounding like it was recorded through a teenagers computer microphone is getting access to the music market, retard. I also know that it's a play on Times New Roman, but when they choose a name like that, the music should have compensated for that, something it doesn't do.

  • @skruvjern dude, they made a new song that sounds totally different and actually good, like not lo fi anymore.

  • @WaCoproductions Not overusing the distortion is just a small step. Now they'll just have to learn playing the instruments they have and make music that doesn't suck. The lyrics still suck, and the melodies still suck.

  • @skruvjern haha never heard of punk from the 80's have ya?

  • @wielderofdrumstix Yes, I have heard about punk from the 80's. The thing that separates them from these people is that the 80's punk bands could play and these guys can't, and if you're implying that Times New Wiking's sound is comparable to the punk bands from the 80's then you're wrong. This is simply a result of bad production.

  • @skruvjern Nah, i was actually implying that, back then, the distortion they used sounded 'bad' and 'over-the-top'

to naysayers and that back then, they all only knew three chords (if that!). But they made it work and put in all that energy.

  • @skruvjern

youre saying hey cant play? are you listening to the song above, what are you stupid? theyre some of the best musicians around right now. you've got bad ears or soemthing man.

  • Comment removed

  • @GnomesAmok Why, someone is in the need of a nap. You're saying that I have bad ears because I don't like this? You can't have ears at all if you enjoy listening to this crap. You really didn't like what I wrote since you went along and commented on one of my songs? I mean, come on. That's something a five year old would do, and you're obviously one. The least you could do is check your spelling before publishing your bad formulated, down right horribly bad argumented comments.

  • @skruvjern uh, well....i don't agree. some of this bands songs are some of the catchiest pop songs out there. i'm actually uploading a video right now that i think is realy, a pure example of live power in energy form. so, i feel sorry for you, in general, if you pass this band by, and music in general, based on one track. <3

  • @skruvjern Yeah, but they're all pretty good people..I know all of them outside of their band (one of dozens in the scene), and they are just regular people. They ain't making a lot of scrilla doing the tours, releases, etc.

Not pretentious or fake in any way..Adam is very cool, Beth is way foxy AND pleasant, and Jared is an oddly casual guy, very chill....It might be crap to some, but to TNV it's theirs. PEACE

  • @twostepsteezy and it sucks

  • YAYY!! New Hipster crap for all your non conformist ears!! you guys do know that lomography makes tenfold on those crappy plastic cameras you guys use right? hahahahaha i love "indie" people

  • @sochmo thats why i use a free app on my phone :-D

how can people listen to this? it sounds like its gonna kill my speakers. I guess blowing out my expensive speakers with music thats maxing out the levels is ironic XD

  • @sochmo eh, lomography cameras arent that expensive. I mean, yeah they probably do, but $100 for a film camera is still pretty good.

though you can get a cheap holga for $20, which is a much better deal

Low fi can be cool when used sparringly, but this is just painful

  • They're better live. I saw them in Chicago last week when they opened for Superchunk. Good show. They...dress nice...

  • SO. MUCH. LO-FI.

    SO. MUCH. LOVE.

  • Let's hear it for the latest hipster indie buzzband!

    GO BUZZBAND GO!!!

  • @sanfred Gosh it's so easy to say stupid things isn't it? Let's all be idiots together! Guess what all bands are built on? xx

  • Comment removed

  • Good song, but this band would be so much better if they figured out how to record themselves properly.

  • Wow, Jesus fuck. I understand the key to hipsters is liking horrible music but god fuck how do they keep there ears from bleeding?

  • @HazerWITHTHElazeR Some people enjoy music that doesn't sound over-produced as all fuck?

  • @WRF713

    "over produced"

Hohooooooooooooo, lmao, that's a new one. That'll be a good laugh at the bar later.

  • @WRF713 over produced?! hahaha. This sounds like it was recored with my asshole

  • I saw them Tuesday in Mpls. opening for GBV. First time I heard of them and I dug them as did most everybody else, but they kept having technical difficulties, started a coupla songs and then stopped while they hashed out the problem. I thought they didn't seem to in tune with each other communication wise and thought they were a new band maybe or either on the verge of break-up. Oh well, like the vid.

  • @squinkque Likewise when I saw them in LA w/ GBV. I like them but I think they could use just a smidgeon of fine tuning. I get the whole Lo-Fi thing, GBV and Yo La Tengo are masters of that art. But TNV needs a little bit of something something, you know? Also, a whole set of singing in unison does get a little dry and old. Harmonizing helps a LOT.

  • @squinkque

I was there too. The tech problems were there for GBV too but it was harder to tell because they have a bit more experience under their belts.

I thought they were pretty impressive despite all of that though.

It was fun to watch them watch Bob and company after their set was over though. You could really see how much they respect them. Too bad the crowd was kind of shitty that night. A girl got punched in the head. Someone threatened TNV.

  • @MrForeverForward Yeah it was weird crowd, didn't know about the girl who got hit or that TNV were threatened. Wow, shit. I don't go to shows much lately . . . like in the last 10 yrs, ha, ha, but went to a coupla GBV shows in late 90's and 2000 and man the spriit was certainly different, less a press of bored hipsters and more a rag-tag array of high energy GBV enthusiasts back in the day, more moshing but it was convivial moshing. Ha, ha. but TNV are cool, gettin into 'em now.

  • They're opening for 'Guided By Voices classic'---both from Ohio, both do short lo-fi songs.

  • 2:12 to 2:15. The heart of the Columbus underground indie culture. The Bobo..

T N V played about a thousands shows there....They're good, just come back to us!!..

Hello Jared, Adam and Beth !!

  • coming to see you guys at the Scion Garage Fest! so excited!

  • Re-record your song with non-distorted vocals? please?

  • @haversman that's the point goofball.....

  • @RyanKellyVideo distorted sound you can't understand is the point -,-' In my line, that sounds awful. Sorry to be a hater :( [Since, well, we all know haters fail]
