Dame Kiri has never been surpassed in Mozart and Richard Strauss; this is exquisite singing, in which she inhabits the role to perfection. Check out her Countess in Nozze di Figaro under Karl Bohm; the final scene is hair-raising, and she even lets one tear fall out of her eye!

I fondly remember this from SF Opera's Strauss Festival in June 1993. Bittersweet also in that this production was Tatyana Troyanos' final appearance onstage, in the role of Clairon, before she succumbed to cancer later that year.
