  • 30 grand slam titles and 571 weeks of being world number one, in this court...

  • rog had no style back then haha

  • Hmmmm,in 90's tennis surfaces didn't change a lot. Federer started with a fast grasscourts and if it stayed like that,he wold dominate on grass totaly. But he adopted very well on this slowing down of grass and hardcourts. Supouse that happened in 90's, I'm not sure if Sampras would have that kind of success. Then, that would aloud players like Agassi or Chang to have even more success than they had. That's why Nadal,Djoko and others are so god. Fed just has more variabillity then Sampras.

  • Federer will always be my favourite player, and an inspiration to all those lucky enough to watch him play.

  • zomg! 1:50, when Sampras bow, Federer did it too!! So humble~~

  • Well, Federer is stronger, but i prefere Sampras

  • i actually might stop watching tennis for a while when federer leaves. he made me regret having chosen football at a young age instead of a racket, he brought me into that sport, and he's still the only sportsman (along with Zidane, now retired) to give me chills out of sheer talent and, i guess, beauty.

  • @looneYeah doesn't that mean you're not a fan of tennis, just federer?

  • @23NaLi it does not. but he had so much influence in making me love that sport in general that, out of symbolism, i actually consider grieving him by not watching tennis anymore for a while when he leaves, lol.

  • I highly doubt Tsonga will become the next big thing, but I kinda viewed their QF Wimbledon match as a parallel to the match referenced in this video. Replace "it would be the first time Sampras had lost in 5 sets at Wimbledon" with "it would be the first time Federer had lost in a major after having a 2 sets to love lead." In both scenarios, "we expected the standard to hold....it didn't" rings true. And Tsonga also fell to the ground when he won that match.

  • Sampras is better than Federer

  • @djoleluk

No way, Not in a single thing, I just can't imagine tennis without it's best player in history, Roger Federer.

  • @MrGlanar Then you're wrong, because Sampras was actually known to have the best serve in the game. Those two players are definitely legends to the sport, I just hope Federer will win another slam before he retires.

  • I suspect what Roger wants more than anything before he retires, is to win an Olympic gold in the men's singles. That would give him the Golden Grand Slam. I hope he does that as well as win Wimbeldon and Roland Garros again. The latter in a final against Nadal (just to prove he could do it). He's got another couple of years in him yet. I just hope he knows when to quit. Hope he doesn't slip down the rankings below 5 otherwise he'd be ending on a low.

  • Don't go Federer!!! :'( Make a clone of yourself!!! :D

  • shit, this is making me tear up, don't want federer to go. EVER :'(

  • Come on....Federer, Nadal...and who ???

Come on...Pete..Andre, Pat, Goran, Rios, and many more.....

  • @AdamTomaszewskiPL if ur putting pat, goran and rios in the same league as djokovic ur out of ur mind... they were never close to having a year like djoko had last year and he will continue to shine... rios was great but he never even won a slam and i see murray and delpo becoming as or even greater in the future...

  • @AdamTomaszewskiPL you forgot djokovic

  • 1:50 Look at Federer bowing after Sampras. Hahahahahahaha.

  • Sampras as the same age of federer would kick his ass any time

  • @Dumphire well sampras wasnt at his best but either federer, he was still too young

  • both are amazing players!!!!!!! GOOOOOO FEDDD

  • His idol? I thought Fed's idol was THE Stefan Edberg?

  • @Shodai24 and Boris Becker.

  • @Shodai24 u can have more than 1 idol ... edbergs prime was before petes... times change and so can idols... though he admires both...

  • It's funny because Federer didn't win Wimbledon that year yet this match is still way more popular then the final was.

  • if that match had sampras in his prime, i think the universe would explode.

  • Federer=Sampras 2.0

  • @ARZ1987 different time.. different styles.. we will never know

  • @topspincrazy na Federer , Djokovic , Nadal too good for Sampras imo

  • @DarthMuse i'm not denying anything.. but still different times and completely opposite game styles.. i still think it would be a toss up

  • @ARZ1987 How can Sampras 2.0 has inferior serve??

  • @ARZ1987 I think roddick was supposed to be Sampras 2.0 but Roddick can't serve and volley :P

  • @VengeanceAfter Roddick is more like Sampras 0.1

  • @oplilium Before he exited his prime. It's not that roddick is bad, it's just that federer is the best

  • @ARZ1987 unlike Sampras Federer plays well on ALL surfaces and unlike Sampras Federer has made ALL 4 slam finals 3x

  • @timafi Federer never won at RG before the clay played significantly faster. Basically all surfaces play similarly these days in order to cater to baseliners. Cannot compare across eras. Also, Roger grew up and learned playing on clay. Sampras did win a couple of clay court tournaments (94 Rome, I believe), so he wasn't horrible on clay. The same guys make the semis of every tournament these days, and all play exactly the same (no)variety of tennis. Homogenization kills.

  • never understood why they called Sampras "best ever" when he never made it to 1 FO final much less win one yet they never failed to remind Roger prior to 2009 that he had yet to win the FO when he made 4 finals

  • @timafi exactly, federer lost all those finals to the greatest clay courter of all time as well...if anything he's the second or third best clay courter on tour!

  • @150buckfifty150 clay has to federer's weakest court because it's slow paced.. but he is like 2nd best right now after nadal that is!

  • @timafi i think sampras was the king of grass while federer was the prince of grass.. roger federer is the most complete tennis player of all time and he is still writing his own history!

  • emotional isn't it? How 10 years has gone so quickly and here we are already reflecting.... 9/11, 1st after millenium, 1st year after.com bubble, Nokia ------------- Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, IPhone....

  • what about 1996 Wimbledon where Sampras lost in straight sets to krajicek

  • @stanleyyelnats11

It says his first 5 set loss.

  • @stanleyyelnats11 ya it is. krajicek beat sampras in straight sets

  • genius ¡¡¡¡ Thanks for all you did for the tenis ¡¡¡¡ Today victoria against Nadal in the Master cup show that you are yet betwen the best tenis ¡¡¡¡¡¡

  • FEDERER STILL WILL BE TOP TEN WITH 40 YEARS....

  • @slatz20 hell yea!

  • Wow, this was an eye opener for me in terms of Roger's career. Bravo.

  • "it will be the first 5th set he ever lost at Wimbledon" yea true, but to what a guy...

  • I hope Federer can win a couple more majors, especially WImbledon

  • SUPERB wrap-up. :D

  • Federer took tennis to a higher level.. a level tha nadal, djokovic or murray will never surpass. Federer at his best was better than Sampras at his best. Sampras at his best is way better than djokovic,Nadal or Murray. Federer-Sampras-Borg-Macenroe-Agassi-Nadal-Becker-.......... djokovic and Murray are not amongst the best. Nole in 28 grand slam tournaments..he has only won 4....

  • federer already proven that he's the greatest player.... now the fight is for 2nd best. nadal needs 5 more titles to beat sampras. (even if nadal ties sampras 14, I give the tie-breaker to nadal for golden grand-slam.)

  • And the 2010 tour final where federer beat nadal 6-1 in the third, this yr, he was the only man to beat the undefeated Djokovic in a complete match, he is def. not done just yet

  • No more. Last two years has shown us all that Federer doesn't have the heart what Sampras. He is technically and physically very much capable to win a grand slam however unfortunately he has a weak mind, in fact the the weakest among the lot. Anyone can win at their best but a real Champion is one who wins even when the chips are down.

  • @Nelonthenet1 Dude, what do you call the 2009 French Open?

  • @manco82 Or even US Open 2008 for that matter. But seriously Federer showed more heart in 2009 French than I've ever seen. He wasnt at his best, he almost lost to Haas and DelPo, but managed to get through. I'd say he played better in 2011 French espescially against Djoker

  • @Nelonthenet1 Federer won 4 Grand Slams when he was down (2008-2010). Sampras won just 1 GS title after he turned 30...and Federer is still playing.

  • @Nelonthenet1 Dummest comment on utube ever! If his had 14 GS then he has had the biggest number of "chips-up" tournaments. Can you lease explaint o me again why he isnt the greatest???? If he had 4 GS then i could see your point.

  • @bobbygassman - well here it is since you asked | to start wit its Dumbest not dummest !! atleast something is sorted out to start with | 14 GS never had value cause u rightly said "chips were up" | but when they are down everyone can see how poor he really is (mentally not physically) | US 2011 match point - the best serve ever and what happen ?? we all know, and you call him the Greatest ?? Ever heard of Goran Ivanišević, I'm sure every one remembers him winning WIM - Cause he had "HEART"
