  • It's great! I listen to it everyday!

  • Listen to Michael Rabin's Paganini.

  • heavy metal on a violin

  • Markov is a fantastic violinist and while his ricochet is impressive I like the Kavakos version of this piece even better.

  • I can play that in my sleep. c'mon =)

  • is he seriously playing this with slurred spiccatto?? omg THATS pro

  • I've been told about Markov...Does anyone know if it's true that his career only lasted 5 years and then he ended up in a mental institution?

  • @wooskru not true, I saw him perform a few months ago, just before a recent Carnegie Hall performance of his. His Paganini is as astounding as ever :)

  • @wooskru He is a low profile performer like Lugansky. Despite them both being very proficient in their own arts, they don't have enough recordings or CD's because they need to make money through live performances. If you search all over youtube, the only available recordings are up because they are good. Yet if they recorded everything, it will be a problem because all people will do now is probably hear and listen to the CD. Sadly, music performance is competitive and a dying art.

  • People record because they have the connections not because they are good. There is a lot of clicks and politics in the world of 'production' ...you must be very naive on this..now you are not any longer...

  • @wiltonpt Just to reply, Markov has plenty of connections. He has several CD's with the Erato label and has frequently appeared throughout the world for masterclasses and what not. Connections would probably be the least of his problems, especially when his father Albert Markov (as professor and masterclass instructor) could always lend a hand. It's more so that he doesn't want to record, like Martha Argerich. At his level, it's near impossible to not have connections.

  • Muiito Perfeito

  • it's so freaking out of tune. there is hardly one note that is actually in tune. all flash.

  • @777galamian is that so? I'm jealous of you then. You must have been born with god's ears since this sounds perfect to me

  • he makes malmsteen look like a fool lol

  • You mean Milstein...and you are full of it!!! Obviously don't know anything about violin playing. Milstein is a league above the rest and Markov would be the first one to agree with you. And p.s. Ricci is the player for Paganini.

  • @Gallipoli717 no i mean malmsteen look him up you jackass, you opbviously got some sort of problem trying to be so much more supperior to others with your litttle additude. you also need to change your behavior i don't care who you are or what you do but just because you listen to formal and clean music does not mean you have to make others look like shit just because they may be a little niave....fuck off asswhole

  • @thrashsuxballs You're insulting Markov comparing him to that.

  • El Ruso Alexander Markov interpretando una de las mas famosas obras clasicas del violin del maestro Paganini .Caprice nr 5 !!!

  • When he closed his eyes I yelled. "OH NOW HE"S JUST SHOWING OFF!!!"

  • Look closer to the original paganini caprice #5 music. You'll see the first 3 notes of each 4-note are dotted-slurs. The actual bowing required is called "Saltato" bowing. It's a combination of ricochet + staccato bowing. It's actually a very complicated bowing technique and most violinists don't bother w/ it. Bravo to Markov!!

  • how does he do that bowing at 0:28???

  • @mareoraft He uses a special technique that allows you to play legato and staccato simoultaniously. On violin you normally play each note with a Bow-Up- and then a down-stroke, one after another. When you have legato, you play the notes that are bound together, with one stroke of the bow, not changing the direction. But when you have staccato at the same time, you have to "separate" the notes from each other while you are doing this long stroke, so he lets the bow " hop" between the notes.

  • @JoelGuitarMetal does he put pressure on the bow between hops? His stroke looks different from a flying spiccato.

  • @mareoraft I actually cant really tell you because i dont play the violin but i guess it depends on the dynamic.

  • @mareoraft it is called ricochet

  • when they make Violin hero there better not b fucking avenge seven fold or shit bands like taht there should b music like this

  • @hill99907 just imagine trying to play paganini on violin hero...

    MADNESS!

  • magnificent!

  • @steelerfreak1977 yes i do, i must have mistyped or something...

  • @876209 they really don't.

  • this is crazy

  • @876209 i disagree;

-first you cant generalise to all rappers

-then how can you call them filthy when a lot of artist from different music style are even worse the rappers

-if you dont like hip hop why do you listen to it

-if its that bad why does it make that much money for those rapping artists becoming millionaire.. :somewhere somehow someone likes this music more then then these old classic artist that die broke

  • andy samberg plays a mean fiddle.

  • great!

  • OMG this guy is playing where my youth symphony rehearses next weekend and the concert is FREE I'm so excited!!!!

  • OH MY GOD! WTH BOWINGS!

    HOW?

    HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE!? OMG!

  • Shlomo Mintz and Kavakos have in my opinion better this caprice better

  • @ATielker Agreed, Markov is a marvelous violinist but I still like the Kavakos version better, it's much cleaner, though to be fair I don't expect ricochet bowing to sound as clean as sautille. Having said that I DO like Markov's Pag 24 better than Kavakos' version, but that's just my opinion.

  • @ATielker English....do you speak it?!?!

  • that's just... phenomenal.

  • he played it by ricochet bowing, omg its extremly hard

  • You fucking whores, all the time squabbling about petty stuff. Fucking whores.

  • ORIGINAL BOWINGS FTW!!!!!! got the 1st 4 staccato measures down... 4 bjillion more to go. cheeuhh

  • the groups of fours in ricochet are impressive, but I still find Milstein clearer and more enjoyable!

  • i bet somehow this bumping technique was similiar that paganini used to play

  • Alex did it better cuz he did the caprice 5 THE WAY IT IS WRITTEN!

  • GrEaT Markov!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Ya know...there comes a point where a piece of music for violin can become a little too technical, then it just starts to sound like a squeaky mess.

  • Shlomo Has this version by the balls!!!....Alexander sounded like he wanted to go too fast and sometimes sounded like he got stuck ...this is one of my favorite Capriced

  • @briggs9187 Shlomo goes slower because of his first name..DUH!

  • @fireballkiller lol....funny ....

  • @briggs9187 Although i quite agree, you must look at the fact that Sholo's recording was studio recorded....something completely different to a live perfomance

  • @JanForest oh I see, still very beautiful and lovely sound.

  • Shlomo Mintz is way better

  • Alexander Markov is one of the most celebrated violinists around the world. And yes, he is the first also, to have ever played an electric violin. He has the first one ever made for him. Alex will be playing his first ever Rock Concerto at Carnegie Hall in October. To say he loves rock is 100% correct.

  • 0:28 bounce style is paganinis original secret of playing caprices? :d it looks inhuman

  • well alexander markov is one of the few that plays paganini's caprice 24 exactly like paganini did

  • so good! i have trouble with that bowstroke :(

  • LOL-you're all wrong. Nobody plays Paganini better than charlie daniels! ROFL

All jokes aside, this is brilliant. Even if you can find fault, why would you want to? Why not just listen to it and enjoy? Its nothing short of amazing, and if theres someone else who you think is better, why not just go there and listen to them instead? Just because you get bored with swimming is no reason to pee in the pool...

  • This is slightly sloppier than some other performances, but this is because Markov is actually following the original bowing of the piece, which is much more difficult than simply playing one note per stroke. I haven't really seen many other people use this bowing, which I find kind of odd, really.

  • Ricci is faster, but he hasn't the feeling

    and the excellent timig.

    Fastness isn't everything.

  • @Baaz666 playing correctly and fast is everything :P

  • Best Paganini player?!? Don't make me laugh.

Nobody played Paganini better than Nathan Milstein.

  • Don't make me laugh. Nobody plays Paganini better than Ruggiero Ricci.

  • You said it dude!

Whats wrong with everyones ears :) :)

  • holy fuck, I wanted to start to play violin but now...

  • @brassmonkeyjew

Exactly why he does a richochet bowing. He demonstrated his speed on caprice 16. This caprice was intended to be with richochet.

  • Upload your video and let's your skills playin this. . . if he's sloppy I challenge you to do it better than him

  • Simply fantastic, but how about playing Paganini's Caprice#5

on an E-Guitar,left handed and upside down? Have a look

    at Heiko Jaeger Trailer 2010

  • THE BEST MAKER OF LOVE TO VIOLIN!!!

  • I like the way he plays some other caprices, but in this case mintz and milstein surely sound better.

  • Cleaner, yes, better, no.

The most impressive thing about this performance is the sheer variety of sounds he produces - artistry at its best. The ricochet bowing provides an edge to the piece that is missing in most renditions.

  • Check out Tedi Papavrami's playing Paganini's Caprice No.5...much better and sounds amazingly crisp

  • Question: Is he playing the original bowing? What is the original bowing?

  • @luviolinkim Yes he is.

Original bowing = like Ning Fend or Markov

The other bowing is actually played by violinists unable to play this one (very hard) : one note in one bow, like Milstein, or many others.

  • Thank you!

  • OMG The bow :D

    that`s awesome!

  • Comment removed

  • w.o.w. scray, scary, spiccatto bowing. :o

  • im not gunna try this on violin or guitar for another 10-20 yrs................

  • He follows the Paganini bowing markings which turns this caprice from a merry romp to a technical nightmare!

  • shlomo's version was more clean was perfect on intonation and didnt have the gay ass bouncy ass im a faggot bowing listen to shlomos version people this is weak

  • right on. Most people can't hear, this this is a mess. The intonation in this is an abomination.

  • I didn't realize that Andy Samberg could play the violin so well.

  • @TannerW1982 Lol so I'm not the only one

  • @TannerW1982 It's all in the chin. That thing could hold down a cello for fucks sakes.

  • ez az eredeti vonasnem

  • What a beautiful bow-hold! Gosh, THIS is the bow-hold that should be achieved for ultimate performance. :D

  • I thought Bach wrote Badinerie

  • Parts of this reminds me of Chopin's Badinerie.

  • are you sure that is Chopin? I don't recall Chopin writing a Badinerie.

  • this man gives us a great idea of how they would have been preformed. Sans the incredibly crippling disease paganini suffered from.

  • he even looks like pagannini lol

  • I'm convinced HE IS Paganini........Reincarnation, you know, is a fact of life.

  • you're confusing markov and heifetz

  • I don't believe reincarnation.

But I think that he is really like Paganini

  • Have you ever heard Paganini play?

  • No.. You're right.

    I've never heard Paganini play.

So I don't know his real play.

But I mean that Marcov's play is really good.

  • I wonder if it's gifted or just playing long hours? Awesome?

  • Even a gifted person needs to practice lots of hours, check out for any international soloist (vengerov, zimmerman, oistrakh, muter, midori, etc.) and they formation, you'll see they practiced at least 5 or 6 hours a day!

  • leopold auer (the teacher of heifetz and elman) said something about practicing... at least for every 40mins practice, there's a 10-15 min break, then continue practicing again... this is to avoid injuries in over practicing... now that's the secret why others can do up to 6 hours :D

  • yes indeed! that's how I practice :D

  • His bowing is MIND BLOWING!!!

  • wow!

  • he looks like a metalhead XD

  • u have no life

  • u suck dude he'll probably traveled so so much than you, not only that he made his dream come true...do you have achived that? xd

  • don't you know? Paganini was the first metal head ;)

  • id say that was probably Bach :P

  • @cryptoprocta it would explain why paganini used to be suited just in black ;D

but anyway i think that solos of van helen, iron maiden and other of these stuff cannot be even compared with flawlessness of paganinis killer compositions.

  • @cryptoprocta \m/ hell yeah

  • the bowing style is unbelievable impressing!!!

but it sounds better if you use a normal sautillé

  • it destroys the intended melodic effect if you use a normal sautille. the three ricochets on a down bow and then one bounce on the up bow is the bowing intended by paganini (as written in the original manuscript)

  • Ok, maybe you are right, but there is seemingly no violinist who can play that with good melodic line AND good sound :)

  • Well seen

  • too impressive

  • passion and honour for music you must be joking.have you ever heard rap music.

  • RULESSSSSSSSS!!!!

  • alex is simply playing the music as written. paganini elevated violin technique to a whole new level...and to this day there are only a handful of performers who can do justice to p's works. i've heard that p was writing pieces like this to demonstrate his phenomenal and unprecedented mastery of the instrument. it worked,

  • Totally agree. This is a performance maybe Paganini should say bravo Alexander..

  • Hell yeah man, I think Paganini would be pleased with this performance. Markov definitely knows what he's doing. My mouth was dropping as I watched this.

  • he is actually the only one who plays the piece exactly in whe way it was written, with the ricochet bowing technique...

  • Shlomo Mintz plays this much better, this guys bowing technique for this piece is horrible.

  • That's weird bouncing technique is the way Paganini would so often play. It is assumed that he wrote the piece to be played that way. I personally think it sounds choked, though. Maybe Paganini pulled it off better, it IS however admirable that he attempted to play it as intended, however.

  • I must disagree with your statement. Both Shlomo and Alexander are transcendent during the beginning arpeggios, but Alexander's bowing techniques cut the rhythm much better, allowing the piece to groove more.

Shlomo's version is briliant but it become a bit numbing with its unrelenting legato bowing.

  • I absolutely agree. The bowing would be amazing here if he had more precision in his tuning and tone. He was often out of tune in this version (unless it was just the poor video quality). And the bowing technique caused a meshing of the notes. I LOVE Mintz's version as well.

  • i can't figure out where they hid all those cameras :p

  • good paganini :)

i dont really like paganini ..but this version is interessant :)

  • can't hear shit

  • :44 some woman cries out

  • Well, I'm not really a Classical music expert, and I can't say if this is the best Paganini player around, but I have also to say that this version is by far the most beautiful and intense I heard.

  • LMAO :50 hahahahahaha

  • xavier inchausti no tiene nada que envidarle. Son unos genios

  • i saw him last night, he is just amazing

  • this is my fav one...=) and the part of the 24. caprise left hand pizzicato...=)

  • I really like seeing the original bowing; it's very interesting!

  • damn brilliant. I bet this guy sold his soul to be able to play like that too :P

  • How do you think Paganini got so good?

  • yeah, and hes only playing a cover!! imagine being the genius who actually had this going through his head and composed this stuff!!

  • capitvating

  • What a hell!!!!!

  • Markov's 5 shouldn't be compared to anyone else's unless they use the original bowing as well.

  • Impressive to actually watch somebody do Paganini's original bowing and not suck at it. Very well done. Bravo

  • Молодец. Паганини это здорово. А своё что нить????

  • Lol he looks like Paganini

  • He doesn't have the control of Salvatore Accardo

  • Salvatore didn't play it as written though.

  • Comment removed

  • Wow. He has really good bow control! Amazing ricochets! Paganini IS AMAZING! He inspires me to write impossible music. :D

  • Whats more amazing to me was that in Paganini's time his music was impossible to play yet he was able to write it and play it as well.

  • Oh, I know! It amazes me, though, how each generation seems to be learning more complex music faster. I wonder why that is...

  • simply building upon established techniques and acquiring more modern and novel ones that didn't exist back then. paganini was only one man, but nowadays we have so much more.

  • steriods

  • ahhhh paganini caprice que chingon

  • To me it sounds like he falls out diatonically, im not quite sure if its supposed to move into chromatic runs, but it sounds like the inntonation goes off.

  • fake...!! absolutly awesome !!

  • paganini was insane!!!!awesome composer but insane

  • Violin shredding ftw :), can't get enough Paganini as of recent

  • Have you heard to the 24th caprice? If you actually like shred guitar, that's the one you'd like. There are actually a lot of videos on YouTube of this and the 24th on guitar. Also, on violin, this isn't shredding, it's insanity.

  • Paganini would be proud.

    Simply divine.

  • nothing to say

    he's totally amazing!!!!!

  • Yeah...I might just go ahead and quit playing now! Damn this is amazing!

  • Sweet Baby Jesus!

  • Dear lord hes playing it in ricochet

  • wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!spettacolare

  • Someone shoot the cameraman-director plz...A sniper maybe?
