Reminds me of Metroid Prime 2 (echoes) where you travel back and forth between worlds to get to different places (eg where in one world a tunnel is caved in and in the other it's not_

@Foxtrek64 It's a similar mechanic, but in Echoes, you're traveling to an alternate dimension rather than going through time. When interacting with something stuck in a transdimensional flux, what you do in one dimension affects both in some way, while, in time travel, changing the past affects the future, but changing the future has no affect on the past.

For the most part, though, making changes in one of the worlds is the equivalent to altering the future in time travel.

Something perhaps more realistic, couldn't you go into a portal loop (One above the other) and eventually get such momentum that your going lightspeed? At which point you will be in there, say for 6 hours, because time was going faster outside of this "Loop" when you came out it could be say... 6 years in the future. I'm just going off a similar proven concept here so excuse me if this wouldn't actually work. xD

If the the portal sits there all that time, it'll just be there... It won't be like it takes a picture of the past and brings it to the future, it just is like a window. When you look out a window, it's always going to be whatever is going on outside at the moment.

That reminds me: Wasn't time traveling with the portal gun a potential issue in the story? I mean, Cave didn't specifically say that the portal gun itself would be responsible, but there aren't any other devices seen in that area that look capable of defying the laws of physics and the portal gun was clearly in use by then...

@Private19872 exactly, because time doesn't exist. Time is just used to correctly tell when something is done. It's like a way to organize when events will happen. Infinity is happening now and at the same time, has already happened...

@willizle02 According to Einstein's E=mc^2, time and space make up this universe. Time can slow down(except at the speed of light where time stops) and speed up(if you stop moving through space). Infinity is a concept and a limit, it isn't real. Infinity would be the asymptote on the graph of y=x(on a Euclidean plane). Infinity is the distance a line goes(in 2D space). Infinity will never be reached. Unless CERN is right, but I have my doubts.

@willizle02 Multiple timelines. Traveling to the past could just be traveling to a different timeline. Other timelines could have been destroyed entirely, but the one in Portal 2 remained in tact.

Of course, one would have to wonder why, if someone really did travel through time, the timelines aren't in an infinite loop of destruction, assuming eye contact with one's past self was ever made.
