This is a good rebuttal for the twist worshippers. Like the grim reaper, you can't just act like a ton of losses in first part of career did not happen.
When he was in his prime, Larry Playfair was easily in the top five, if not #1. Noone wanted to fight the guy. He did lose to Brian Mcclellan once, but aside from that, I dont remember him losing another fight. He was pretty much untouchable.
Hey boston: I just love bustin' your balls with playfair comments!! It looks like you guys have the real deal with milan lucic. I haven't checked his stats from the whl, but if he can play anywhere near as well as he can fight, you guys have a franchise player.
Twist was an overrated overweight roid head who was one dimensional when it came to fighting and would get schooled when he fought the true heavyweights.
you're a fucking moron. twist was the most dynamic fighter i have ever had the priviledge to see. he won fights on the bottom, on the ice, for christ's sake! and what "heavyweights" are we talking about?
1)Bob Probert 2)Joey Kocur 3)Tony Twist 4)Clark Gillies 5)George Laraque 6)Stan Jonathan 7)Donald Brashear 8)Jim McKenzie 9)Terry O'Reiley 10)Tie Domi Twist was 3rd, but as you can see here, before he used Steroids and put on 40 pounds, he wasn't as good as he became!
That's a pretty good top 10. Here's mine: 1 Probert, 2 Twist, 3. Brashear, 4. Chris Nilan, 5. Dave Manson, 6. Craig Berube, 7. Gillies, 8. Jeff Ogers, 9. Laraque, 10. Tim Hunter
Ok, not to just outright laugh at you, but Craig Berube? Watch Lyndon Byers absolutely DESTROY both he and Clark Gillies here on youtube. (although Gillies was old, Berube was in his prime) Odgers sucked and got KILLED almost all the time. Manson got beat all the time. He was about as tough as Scott Stevens. Chris Nilan was tough, but Jim McKenzie beat his ass badly. Where the hell is Kocur on your list? He beat half the people on it, including your number 2! Tim Hunter?
Hunter also beat Kocur and Hunter never lost to Herb Ragland like Kocur did. Of course Kocur got careless against Herb and he made Kocur pay. Odgers won a lot of fights as did Berube. Berube was the only guy to KO Marty McSorley. Manson was also very tough and won a lot of fights. There's no denying Byers was a tough fighter--I'm not arguing that, but I seem to remember Byers getting it handed to him once by Basil McRae. Point is, on any given day the best even got beat.
lol Cam Neely, who is a better than average fighter, but certainly not a top 50 all time, KILLED Basil McRae on a couple oif occasions, and won each fight he had with him (5 if I recall correctly) Your assertion that because Kocur lost 1 fight to Raglund, so Kocur is tough is Absurd! Watch Kocur fight Brashear, then watch McSorely fight Brasher...Brashear KILLS McSorely. Kocur beats Brasher...end of story, pinhead.
lmfao you want to compare user names? lol! You are absolutely killing me! dietpepsivanilla? hahahahahahahahaha! I couldn't come up with anything MORE GAY than if you gave me the cast of Queer Eye for the Straight Guy and the first 6 rows of an Elton John concert to help me! HAHAHAHAHAHA! Classic!
everyone loses I agree...but I guarentee you that for every fight you can find that Joey Kocur lost, I will find 3 losses for any guy you say that is tougher. Even Bob Probert conceded that Joey lost fewer fights because he wasnt someone that waited for an opening like Probert. Jay Miller and Probert were late fighters...like Langdon of the Rangers. thaeyd let you tire out then nail you.
@boston4877 Yeah and what sucked is when idiot linesmen like Kevin Collins would jump in just as guys like Probert and Langdon were starting to tune the guy. Officials shouldn't jump in until one guy is soundly beaten down or both guys gas. So many of Proberts fights were stopped early because his tactic was to let the guy tire. Both McSorley and Langdon had great cardio too and I used to get pissed when refs would break up their fights as they were making a big comeback.
Byers and Berube were 1 year apart....so basically they were at the same level. Its not like Byers was 28 fighting a 17 year old! lol they were the same fucking age dipshit! Stop with the excuses...its embarrassing!
Wow old school, Whalers and the Nordiques. the nordiques are still around, they moved to colorado. i still call them the nordiques when i watch them play lol

Agreed. Even Dave "The Hammer" Schultz agrees and said Playfair's punches would sting.

@darlow1 Curt Fraser beat him too. And his fight with Bob Nystrom was one of the best draws ever.

@susdlnskafw This is before Twist got all huge and shit. McKenzie was one of the toughest guys in the league in 1992.

Berube was just in his second season when he fought Byers, nowhere near the Chief's prime.
Byers didn't destroy Gillies anything like the Berube fight, he did get a clear win though.
