  • you should do let's play of ultima 6. You can get it free as 3d version its called ultima project

  • are you going to make let's play other ultima games?

  • I kind of like the design of this game more than Serpent Isle in it's UI.

Gives the character more of a unique feel.

Ultima VII, while being a cluttered game, is the most realistic in terms of managing equipment in an RPG I have ever seen. You literally STUFF your bags with crap! XDD

  • kikoskia its pronounced iolo not yolo

  • @Futurllamma231 (I-olo or Y-o-lo)

basically, you get the same thing.

  • I always pronounced your name (Key-Koe-Skia). Oh well..

  • Hi

  • My god, I heard about five words before I had to stop it. Needs more meds.

  • Unwatchable due to voice. Sorry. :(

  • Ah, good old England Land.

  • "THAT was an earthquake"

"Iolo can't complain, because HE took the money"

"Iolo, you thief! What are you doing?"

    Kikoskia, I <3 you.

  • "Iolo, you thief - what are you doing???"

And so begins so many hours of wonderful LP entertainment...

  • how do you save in this game?

  • @mekillermaxi if you still haven't figured it out you hit 's' that opens the save menu

  • Hey, It's more fun than playing on my own :D

  • is it better to play this on exult or on dosbox I downloaded Ultima 7 and SI

  • @TheMikon I personally prefer Dosbox.

  • i didnt know mark steyn played videogames.

  • 3 People think Call of Duty was the beginning of the world.

  • I actually Liked this game back in the day.... I would play it again if it wouldn't just melt in my new computer

  • I always play with female characters in RPGs although I'm a guy (don't ask me why I don't know that myself)

  • "Yolo can't complain, because HE took the money"

  • Ultima VII looks like Tibia. Hm...

  • What is up with the Lolo comments, really? He says Lolo by mistake *one time* and then correctly pronounces it for *the rest of the video!* Sigh....

  • I've been gradually playing through the old pc rpgs I missed (wasn't a pc gamer in the old days). I'm currently playing through Planescape: Torment (which is effing amazing! It honestly only barely qualifies as a game, but the world and story are like nothing I've ever seen). Next up is the Gothic series.

I'm wondering if the Ultima games should be included in my list.

If so, where would I start? There's so many, and the earlier ones are so... primitive.

  • You're voice acting really puts something to the game!

  • Despite the lolo pronounciation, your commentary is excellent, sounds like your having heaps of fun doing these too!!

  • Interestingly enough, in the SNES version of Ultima VII, the two men in the stable are kidnapped, not murdered. I got a chuckle out of that.

  • ultima vii: the black cock

  • Such a shame good games like this aren't made anymore. I don't begrudge graphics, to be sure, but why all the stupid MMOs!?!

WoW, Warhammer Online, Everquest, Guild Wars, this and that and the cat in the hat.....

I guess we have Diablo 3 and Elder Scrolls 5 to look forward to though....

  • @Tooninoot Guild Wars isn't too bad.... Although nothing compared to U7. The closest good MMORPG to U7 besides UO, is probably Ragnarok Online, IMO. Still, uses the good old 2d sprites.

  • Dude, go to the exult team and give evreyone voice acting :D

  • I imagine a dev meeting for this game; "Boss, testing shows players spend 60% of their time shuffling items around between the world, bags and companions, and struggling with character windows overlapping, overloaded inventory weights, and the inability to see items. Perhaps we should auto sort character windows, turn containers into auto sorted grid views, turn gold into a simple text counter, and increase the carrying capacity?" to which the boss responded: "You, sir, are a tuna head".

  • @pulseforce To anyone unfamiliar with the game series, my comment will make a lot of sense the more you watch of this Let's Play. The inventory mess and window troubles will reach epic proportions soon enough. :-D

  • @pulseforce Actually, back when the game came out, it was pretty fun. You have to realize that even Win 3.1 was kind of new and Win 95 wasn't out yet. Thus, moving items around with a mouse was AMAZING and revolutionary for a video game of the time. Only now, when mouse is used for EVERYTHING and all the time does it seem tedious. Most people were using DOS and typing thing out back then and hardly ever using the mouse that much.

  • @usagichan9991 Hrmm... I remember playing Civilization 1 on my first computer using a mouse and definitely didn't think about it being an "amazing marvel". It was just another input method like the previous keyboard, joystick or joystick, and I sure didn't salivate at the awesomeness of holding the mouse. As for the game, it did most things wrong when it comes to its windowing system and inventory system, and it cannot be blamed on age because other games BEFORE it had grid based inventories. ;)

  • By the way, your comment is completely off the mark, in that you think Win3.1 was an example of "the first mouse based OS" and that "people at the time marveled at computer mice". That is not true at all. Maybe for yourself, but not people in general. The first successful, widespread computer to feature a mouse and graphical interface was the Apple Macintosh in January 1984. Windows 3.1 came out in April 1992, and even so it wasn't even the first Microsoft OS with mouse support. Even DOS had it.

  • @pulseforce You are correct, but I think you slightly misunderstood them; usagichan9991 didn't say that Win3.1 was the first graphical-based OS, just that Ultima VII used the mouse considerably more than many games of the time. Of course, I wasn't alive back then so I have no clue how accurate that is, but from what I see, you put the phrases ' "the first mouse based OS" ' and ' "people at the time marveled at computer mice" ' into usagichan9991's proverbial mouth.

  • @saveyourselfagain Here's an exact quote: "You have to realize that even Win 3.1 was kind of new and Win 95 wasn't out yet. Thus, moving items around with a mouse was AMAZING and revolutionary for a video game of the time. [...] Most people were using DOS and typing thing out back then and hardly ever using the mouse that much", so I didn't put any words in his mouth at all, he really did think that Windows 3.1 introduced the "revolutionary mouse" - which isn't true, it was already commonplace.

  • @pulseforce The only way you can read that quote is that he's saying "Windows 3.1 was new, Windows 95 wasn't out, people weren't used to Mice yet", that's exactly how he put it, so he IS referring to Windows 3.1 as the first mouse-based OS. As for games at the time, it depended on the game. Platformers used a joystick, gamepad or keyboard. Everything else used the mouse to control a cursor. You have to remember the mouse was introduced in 1984, so it wasn't at all new/revolutionary in 1992.

  • @pulseforce Windows 3.1 was indeed the first WIDESPREAD used OS for the PC (NOTE: we are not talking about other computer systems here since we are on the topic of a PC game [Ultima 7]).

  • @usagichan9991 You seem to have an issue with not only dragging subjects out of topic through misunderstanding, but even in the context of that misguided viewpoint it simply does not take in the big picture. For example, hardly anyone drove the VERY VERY first automoble, and despite being revolutionary in invention, it would not EFFECT most people for many years later.

  • @usagichan9991 The point here being that the issue is NOT when the mouse existed/was first invented/first used/which OS used it first/or even which OS used it the most, but when using the mouse for drag-n-drop in a PC video game going to become more widepread. Ultima 7 certainly did play a big role in that event.

  • @usagichan9991 You come back a year later and post SIX replies IN A ROW. You are neurotic, in addition to spouting nonsense. I don't have time for you, so I will ONLY give you ONE last reply: From your comments, you sound like someone that played U7 back in the day and read on the box "this is the first Ultima game that relies entirely on a mouse!" (which it was). To then take the leap from THERE to saying that U7/W3.1 popularized the mouse is WRONG; the 80s was FILLED w/ mouse GUIs and games.

  • @pulseforce Ah, right you are; I think I was misreading the comment myself - my apologies.

I must have taken usagichan9991's comment with a large cup of salt.

The first exact quote on your part was worded somewhat differently, but I see where you were coming from. I was seeing the quote as more of a statement that the game used the mouse more than most games of the time, but that could well be my propensity to misunderstand others. Sorry about that :x .

  • @saveyourselfagain No worries. Take care. ;-)

  • @pulseforce Again, you did indeed distort my words, since I never said anything about the mouse itself being new. You took this quote: "moving items around with a mouse AMAZING and revolutionary for a video game of the time", a quote where I SPECIFICALLY said video game(s) and said moving items around (drag-n-drop), and you turned it into a statement supporting the idea that the mouse was new during Ultima 7. Clearly you dragged the subject way off topic as was your mistake.

  • @pulseforce I didn't say Win3.1 was the first mouse based OS so you did indeed put words in my mouth and made assumption about what I was talking about. Clearly taking things out of context is an issue here. We are talking about a PC video game, I think many people are aware of Apples/Macs and how Steve Job stole the idea for the mouse. The mouse was nothing new for the time period, but what was new was how extensively the mouse was used in Ultima 7 and the use of DRAG-N-DROP.

  • @usagichan9991 In adition to this, using the moveable inventory "windows" and character screens, all of the "revoluntionary GAME (not talking about OSes as you seem to think [I merely mentioned Win3.1 as a context for time period associations and UI]) mouse UI setup" was indeed something amazing and exciting at the time period. The mouse UI setup as far as drag and drop, etc was actually a selling point for Ultima 7 and was advertised/PR'd as such.

  • The English accent makes the storytelling much more enjoyable...cheerio!

  • Also, I just noticed that the Avatar came over from behind his computer on earth wearing a full leather dress. I wonder which websites he had been visitin.

  • the 3d perspective in this game doesn't make any sense x_x

  • How can we play this game on windows xp? Is this possible... i miss playing this game

  • @TheIceman884 : There is a tool called Exult, just google the words Exult and Ultima. And yes, Ultima 7 is utterly brillant. I started my gaming hobby with Ultima 6, and still have very, very fond memories of the series.

  • @TheIceman884 DOS-Box is the best way to play it in its original form.

  • Do you have a cold? whenever you sniff it sounds like an Ultima 7 pop up.

  • Oh dear, looks like you won't like the rest of them then. What a pity.

  • @Kikoskia I do wonder why you pronounced it that way when the capital I such as "I tell" was exactly the same as Iolo's name. And then you pronounced his name "Yolo" when you weren't reading dialogue ;)

  • @TiborGallai dude it's a name i can't say half the names in roleplaying games don't let a small thing ruin your fun. and Kikoskia good job at makeing great let's plays:)

  • Oh dear, looks like you obviously take this a bit too seriously. Might I suggest chilling out?

  • @TiborGallai

Oh dear, looks like you obviously take this a bit too seriously. Might I suggest chilling out?

  • @TiborGallai

    Some people

  • I've found the best way for me to get armor, is steal people's food and kill the guard that comes to kill you. xD

  • Actually Red Moon gates started appearing in Ultima VI: The False Prophet(though I think the first one technically appeared in the end of Ultima V when Lord British exiled Blackthorn, not sure haven't finished V in sometime) and are usually created using the moonstone if memory serves.

  • So this one guy keeps going back to Brittania to save it? Man they can't keep out of trouble can they?

  • Man, they could have hired you to do the voice acting! Would have been awesome!

  • Iolo you dirty thief!

@usagichan9991 Everyone knows the avatar is a hardcore LARPer, he can't escape the adventuring lifestyle no matter where he goes.

  • "It is a sealed box. It is now an unsealed box." Very good!

  • Thank you so much for doing all these Ultima 7 videos. An amazing job!

  • You know, now starting to watch this LP for the 3rd time, it just struck me: "Why the hell is the Avatar in the get up that he starts in if he JUST came from earth?" I am mean what kinda nut players there PC wearing armor and holding a dagger? (I mean other thatn Richard Garriot).

  • yes!!! I am SO pumped right now!!!

  • aahhh i find it amazing how people work dosbox.... *tried 13 times and gave up*

  • @leaf12321 Ultima 7 needs EMS memory DISABLED to work, and the default is to have EMS enabled in DOS-Box. Thus you need to edit your config file to have EMS turned off. If you google Ultima 7 Dos-box config help, you will probably find detailed instructions on how to do it.

  • Kiko, I started watching these in the TEXTp ASCII bit for April Fool's Day, and it looks . . . remarkably the same. I advise trying it while you can. The Guardian in the intro screens looked even more absurd!

  • "There is a banana here. We don't want a banana."

Can someone explain why this line, of all lines, made me laugh more than any other line? Not that the rest of the video wasn't funny, but goddamn, I'm still chuckling at the banana remark.

  • The game runs slow as hell for me...both in dosbox and exult. Any ideas?

  • @0NoName9 try to change your DOSBox configuration file options. Like putting cpu=max and/or core=dynamic. Check the DOSBox wiki for more explanations. There's also the VOGONS forum.

  • You naration is EPIC :D

  • LOlo you theif!

  • Does any1 know a way I can get Ultima 7 Black Gate, AND serpent isle?

  • Actually, I pronounce Iolo same way as you, Kikoskia. But its written as Iolo, not Lolo(that's how I used to call him when I was younger).

I didn't know that my companions had the rights to steal... But Shamino has more of a Thief-face than Iolo.

@ JackXIII: You might mean Ultima 6. That's where you begin and find out Gargoyles are attacking Britannia. At the beginning they almost offered as a sacrifice, then you're saved by your friends.

Its definetly my most fav. Ultima game of all.

  • Is it not Iolo (Eye-o-low),not lolo?

  • I preferred Ultima 5... Or was it 6... Can't remember, it dealt with Gargoyles trying to kill the king of Brittania and you traveled with your friends... Only character I can remember was Dupre.

  • That's 6. I think 6's combat was better, but 7 is better in most every other way. The story is more interesting (red muppet villain aside), the world has more detail and interaction (though perhaps smaller due to no more multi-level dungeons), but the combat in 7 basically devolved into random beat-downs with little strategy.

  • @JackXIII That would be Ultima VI: The False Prophet, Ultima V is where Lord British is trapped in the underworld after trying to raise the Codex from the abyss and Lord Blackthorn takes over after being corrupted by the three Shadow Lords.

  • "You must be careful, however. Most things cannot not easily be taken (...) You are the Paragon of Virtue, your companions will get angry and eventually they will leave."

This is So Laughable right now XD ...

  • Iolo was the personification of pure greed from the very start, it seems. What drove him to this? We may never know.

  • lol at your voices

  • OmG thig game is lolzorz

  • Just some trivia, the guy you meet thru the gate right at first is named Iolo (eye-oh-el-oh) and it's pronounced Yo-low.

  • Then you're probably not going to like the next 140 or so videos. :p

  • You are SO wrong, I love your videos, you crack me up! I plan on watching lots and lots of them!

  • @Kikoskia Did you download this game somewhere or is this an original copy? I heard it is freeware now, but have no idea which sites are reliable so that I can download it. Love your LPs btw.

  • Do you have the sniffles in every one of your LPs?

  • cool voise

  • remaind me to voice from Age of Empires 2 (to guy who tell you what you need to do)

  • Comment removed

  • You do very good voices for the characters, sir.

  • rofl Lets Play an ultima game *Music goes all dramatic*

  • That title screen music is pretty sweet. Wonder if there are any remixes out there...

  • shame, yo-low!, and it's the paladins you steal from too.-though Dew''pay is in Hell. om. Always wondered how to pronounce Jhellom. Valoria indeed... shame, EA.

  • Jhellom would probably be pronounced "Yell-om".

  • Really works that your British! You'll understand when I say I got this for £2.99 in a Woolworth's store! Even then it ran too fast on my PC and so I called EA (this in May 1998) and a nice man called David said that he would send me a Mo'Slo floppy and instructions to slow the game down!!! Never mind Brittania being a different world; software companies and PC gaming was another world back in the 90's too! Can you imagine EA doing the same today to solve a problem?!

  • Woolworth's ;_;

    And lolno

  • You fiend, dragging Iolo into your tangled web of sin. ;-) lol

  • lol Lord British = Richard Garriot ^^

  • Blah! whats the point with a RPG where you cant steal everything thats not nailed down..

and then later steal a pair of tongs to go back and steal all the nails and anything they have nailed down....

  • ha ha! I love ripping off the fellowship. what a bunch of crooks they were. When you get to Hook's abode many things will become clear about Fatlin and his fellowship. A truly awesome game, as were all Ultima games.

  • shame you look the same no matter what armor you wear

  • Let's play an Ultima game!

  • Dude, your narration and commentaries are remarkable!

  • I second that!

  • For all of you who want to play this great classic you can download a program called Exult to run both part one and two in winxp.

  • Can you do the Serpent Isle one too?

  • There is also a secret place in the beginning if anyone else remembers it.

  • If you name the Avatar the "Avatar" I will mess up the game at some point with the dialog.

  • Kiko:

    1. What are your cpu cycle and frameskip settings for running U7? I downloaded the game today while Blizzard was working on all its WoW servers and am a bit clueless as to how I might proceed. :P

    2. From the looks of this game, any Ultima series title that you might LP in the future would be terrific, and I'd support you throughout. I am loving this LP even more than Albion, and that's saying A LOT!

    3. Glad to have you back after a short absence. :D

  • lol, gotta love how everybody who plays this just steals the 100 gold from every fellowship building they come across without thinking twice about it XD

  • You are great narrator,i enjoyed watching your videos!

  • Comment removed

  • My favorite game ever... must have spent 1000 hours on this silly game back when I was younger... and didn't have a job, and sat at home all day because it was too cold to go out... :)

  • lol "iolo can't complain, cause HE took the money"

  • if you click murder does it kill them?

  • Avatar: "Carry this table for me, would you lolo?

lolo: But can't you see the "too heavy" symbol on i- *crunch*

Avatar: Ouch! Well, I guess i'm down a lackey. ._.'

  • wow this game has nothing to do with britain...lol

  • You're good in providing voices! Awesome!

  • luv ultima games

  • Did Tibia get the graphics idea from this?

  • Yeah

Tibia was very influentiated by Ultima Series

  • You are the king of narration, this is great!

  • yes, people will accuse of stealing this time 'round, unlike Albion, where you could take EVERYTHING

  • Yolo! you conspriciry evil theif, doust thy steal and'th say'th was given thee items, of stealing?'th. Ha! Thoust must'th go'th to'th directly to'th jail'th'th, and do not go past go, do not collect £200.

  • This game is awesome!!!

  • yeah i've never understood the term, what exactly does a "sandbox" game mean?

  • a 'sandbox game' is a game where you can decide to not play the storyline and instead do mostly what you want, for instance, if you want to go on a mindless killing spree, you can, if you want to be good and do side quests, you can, but are limited by how many quests there are. Eventually however, you might possibly have to play the storyline

  • so if you steal items, your buddies will angry with you and leave, but if you take the item and give it to them, they say nothing?

  • It depends on who you're giving it to in your party. Some people are against you stealing others don't care. Just give it to the ones who are against stealing and they won't steal anything. You can ask them to temporarily leave your party while you steal it but if you are caught stealing your party member may turn against you. It's an awesome game. Way ahead of its time.

  • the voices make it all worthwhile

  • it looks like runscape only with a storyline...and good

  • My favorite will always be Ultima 8

  • ahhh Ultima ...i remeber Playing the Underworld and this other one i belive it was number 9 where you can Jump and So forth ...but i maybe mistaking ...anyways Thanks for uploading this slice of a Game to us and giving up a Little Tip if anyone wants to play it ((Remeber YOU can not steal So dont put things into your Avatar's backpack))

  • Why all the hating on Dupre?

  • Despite the blood and violence common to FPS games now, I still get a shiver seeing that murder scene. Thank you for LPing this Kiko.

  • So the actual class of lolo is a rogue then? Because it appears he is stealing things without you knowing.

  • Did you ever play Ultima Online, Kiko'?

  • Petre<<<Im offended and hurt inside lol

  • Iolo: "I could use some food, ARGH, Uggh, I need some rest!"

    Avatar: -.-'

  • I commend you for going the oldschool way of playing this in DosBox instead of Exult. I am also a happy owner of the Ultima Collection, and wishing it would have contained Underworlds and Worlds of Ultima as well.

  • Sure using Dosbox is more faithful to the original, but what's wrong with Exult?

I haven't played around with it much, but it seems mostly the same as playing it the old-fashioned way.

  • Oblivion and Fallout3 could learn abit from this game.

  • Vultures shall pick thy bones!

  • Damn, I loved this game back in the days but boy it hasn't aged well.

I know you just started but do you intend to do Ultima VIII as well or is too "new school" for your LP taste? :)

  • On the contrary. It's aged quite well. If you compare this to say Baldur's Gate , it is very similar. (yes I know BG is getting old now too)

  • There different options to select like questions you could say to get an answer in return :) I love Ultima, and hurray for iolo
