@111PeLaDo111 They did really well for about a year and a half until my oscar passed away. I believe that was stress from a major move though so unrelated to living with turtles. If you add an oscar you really need to consider the size of both the oscar and the turtles. If anyone fits in anyone elses mouth they will be dinner. Also keep the turtles well fed and they will leave your oscars fins alone, if not he will have bites all over.
@111PeLaDo111 It is a stand made from cinder blocks and a soft wood to pad the bottom. I was trying to keep it lower to the ground to give it a indoor pond feel.
@madturtlefan Well, because I don't have one. lol No but seriously I have some plans to fix this tank up. This video was a year ago so there have been some changes.
I have an oscar and i wanted to get a turtle to add to my aquarium.
I guess my oscar couldn't hurt it but the pet stores around here sell pretty good size turtles like 4" shells. Im scared the turtle would hurt my oscar.
@2JZgrl My turtles are female RES turtles. The females can get quite large actually. Up to 12"s. If you have an adult oscar he should be alright with a 4" turtle as they are pretty tough. I would also make sure that you get a male turtle as they stay smaller. Go with a southern painted turtle if you are concerned about size, I believethey are the smallest. Do a google search on sexing a turtle and take a look at the photos of the tail size and nails to tell teh difference. Good luck
ok my oscar is nine inches big, and in a 75 gallon tank i want to put my turtles in there too, i have 2 turtles that are about 2 inches, and the other two are 3-4 inches, i know might be crowded but mostly i am worried about the oscar killing my baby turtles, would it assult them?
@JackoToonLad Yeah actually Mace here is the one oscar of mine that has jumped out. But he was in my other tank at the time. This tank here has gone through some changes since this video covers, new dock ect.. Your tiny oscar and your turtle would work together but you need really good filtration and keep up with large water changes because they get very messy. Other then that you should be fine for a little bit until they outgrow the tank.
I hope that sometime you get a chance to put a sheet of styrofoam insulation between the cinder blocks and the tank to prevent any cracks in the tank due to stress from the weight of it. Its a great tank size for the turtles and the oscar, good luck with the project.
oh and you see in the video the top left corner of your tank? Do you think perhaps while the turtles were basking they could climb out of the tank? It looks like you should put some plexiglass or something around the basking area so they dont climb out.
@contentunderpresure This is seriously one of the best turtle vids on youtube. I think you should make more vids of your turtles and your oscar eating feeders.
Thank you, we have recently made some big changes to the turtle tank and with my other tanks. I can't wait to get it all finished so I can post some new videos. I will see about getting more feeders for the next one too.
HA that was good. Mace playing with his food. He was probably really full and unable to get the little guy down. He's a big boy, btw. i love your set up. Do you have a place for the turtles to lay or do they not need one. I don't know turtles that well, even though I really love them...hope to see more, I liked watching your babies.
lol Thanks, yeah he was probably full. I was expecting those goldfish to last a bit longer then they did. The turtles do have a small basking area. It is just some stacked up bricks with a ceramic tile just functional for now. I am planning on building a better one at some point in the future. :)
holy shit how long did it take for that O to grow that BIG
