I was having trouble thinking of what to make my High rise building from, and you just helped me out. It will never be as good as this but your thing is amazing. Creativity at its best I say. Question though what is that blue "paper" you put around it?
in the approximate 100+ hours it took you to make this model, you didn't talk to a single person or have a single person come over to talk to you? At my architecture school that would be impossible...
I don't know weather to study this, I love art alevel and insane at using cad and modelling programs maths isent too gd tho, but then so many people quit the course and doing research it's not always the job it turns out 2 be. The other thing is can u get a job at the end
The epic moment when you go to talk to a tutor and they tell you to do another one in a slightly different way. Besides... even if it took a long time to her to build the model, what I am more impressed about is all the work behind making the model: sketchbook work, ideas, plans, sections, artistic drawings of spaces etc. One does not simply build a model like that without thinking about (almost) everything.
I built a cool model in 5 hours on Wednesday this week. They told me to do a new one.
@Macnavor if you want in insight into the day to day aspect follow wallsplusroof.tumblr.com/post/16849410507/semester-two-the-brief-gulp for posts about a third year's work. you can ask questions and request posts on specific aspects of the degree, for example hoe classes are run etc. Also features random arch from around the world ...join tumblr and follow to keep up to date and ask questions!
@itubeyoublah You certainly can't at UWA. Stereolithography [3D Printing] can very expensive and manual model making is a helpful process. It's also very handy later on for building physical models: Clients understand physical models better than 2D and 3D projections as they tend not to have the spacial intelligence that architects have. Anyway, it's a handy thing to have on your CV.
this video takes me back. sadly though, after 5 years of architecture school, i left the profession forever after only one year in the 'real world'. went to grad school and have been doing something else ever since. beautiful architecture still moves me though
Hi ViVi Nguyen, Is that your name? I am Vy, first year architecture student in Kansas City. Can I know your facebook? Your model is really awesome. Hope we can contact.
did you know how to sketch, design,or something that had to do with architecture.was it hard at first.what was your impression in your first day in school or architect...what did it feel like at first?and now who does it feel to know all u do wright know?
I'm going to UH in the fall 2012 and I'm planning to major in architecture. I been doubting lately whether or not if I should apply to the Honors college while I'm at it. But I heard the extra work is not worth it because future architectural jobs are based on portfolio not honors. What do you suggest?
@SaypheZonE If you really care about design, you should not listen to someone that tells you that it is pointless to make physical models. It is important to use every tool at your disposal to clearly convey the proposed idea. I'm not saying that all landscape architects are narrow minded enough to state that, "If you really want to actually learn something, do landscape architecture cuz they actually care about more than designing a structure." I'm just saying this one is.
im not to sure what i want to do in life yet, still yet tryin to pursue my passion which im not sure what it is yet. But in my life i want to be creative and make a difference in this world. Architeture seems like a good field to go in, and i thought why not go for it and fill yourself with suttin new and fun, not sure if it will suite me, but I am about to pursue it anyways to see if i will like it? Any thoughts people, i wld love sum feed BACK? :)
@gcamiloc092 It's a lot of work, mostly on basic design skill and general architectural knowledge. Third year is when everything picks up, and usually that's when you know if you are gonna stick with it because you like it sooooo much or you kinda get weeded out, naturally.
can you tell me the things that are done in architecture college? and how long does it take in order to at least earn around 150,000 dollars a year, it's probably very difficult than that..
@12345soccerguy lmao this is going to sound disapointing, because it was for me. I thought architects did make around $150,000 a year, but as it turns out, average architects make only $45,000 a year. And profesions are lucky to make $100,000 a year
@Fobeyo95 actually, The ones who earn a 45,000 of income are intern architects with only 5 years of expirience. you get more money throughout the years. If you're good enough you can get around 400,000 or more. maybe even a million if you're lucky
The model is made in basswood and plastic sheets. The base is in museum board. You can find them at the art supply stores. They usually have a corner for architectural modeling.
I am in my second year and its tough. Not the work itself but the amount. Its enjoyable but hard to grasp. The ideas are very conceptual and aesthetics usually needs to have significance. Your project looks very literal though?
i want to be an arch. student but at our school we don't have a lot of classes, would you say that UH has classes to teach the basics like how to make models? please help me out anyone, i'm intimated by this ha
It's University of Houston, TX. We have a very good arch program here. It's not difficult to get in but it's tough to stay through the whole program. That's my third year project from last year and I got an A. Thanks for commenting and rating!
@ilmare4ever Hi there, nice video must say.. by the way im thinking of doing something like this for a Art project, Im in year12 still though but u know. What materials did you use to make the building model? is that card or what?
@ilmare4ever are they teaching the students like you on how to stick the cardboard or the materials in order to make a building using this materials, and i saw all the drawings you paste on the wall or in the board as a presentation. is that a hard part? the drawings? are they gonna teach you all about the type of drawing for the architect? pls reply thank you. sorry for my bad english. :)
@ilmare4ever can you please tall me what documents do you need to get in UH Master study arch. program, Iam finishing my BA program in Serbia an looking for some nice MA program? Thank you in advance
@haoss5ice I don't know if this helps: I'm from Australia studying my first year as an exchange student in Denmark. The University of Western Australia has a very good Master's program [My brother went through it and I'll be doing the same]. I also hear that RMIT in Melbourne has a good program. Just spruiking my own country haha
@ilmare4ever hey i have a question, might be a bit stupid though, but do you need an AA/AS to get in the UH architecture program? or can you just start there?
