I have 4 winches, each with different power ranges, and drum size, so the rope length varies. These are powered winches, so you start with as much line out as you can, and the line gets shorter as you tow the pilot in. The speed on the reel is varied by the operator which is ultimately important. The speed has to match the need. Just a light pull is a safe flight. I use a turnaround pulley, so the tow piot is right next to the winch. No need for binoculars.

How long is the rope, and what alt can you gain with it?
What speed you reel on?
How do you supervise the start at that far distance? by binoculars?
