  • I used to ghost the Chapman Stick mailing list (and will join once again when I finally pick one up... it got to be too much of a tease reading about them) and remember when you posted this on your website... in QuickTime under its original name. It's aged *Incredibly* well, and I'll be picking up your "121normal" CD sooner rather than later. :D

  • some else loves your music Menno de Jong - Better World

  • I'm writing again because this still blows my mind and I showed it to some FaceBook friends. This futuristic music belongs with flying air-cars from THE JETSONS. But before that can happen we need nuclear fusion, anti-gravity, world peace, and those really bitchin' saucer-shaped neck-pieces.

But hang in there, dude, your number will come up!

  • one of so million gods out there!

    big up

    nice tune!

  • I want to get a Megatar. I like the tone better, and it costs much less.

The Chapman stick is awesome, too, of course. That was some very good music.

  • Megatars suck ass. get a stick, it's the real thing

  • awesome. makes me wanna fly!!

  • COOL!!

  • I love this song!

  • Great sound!

  • Sounds like "Tangerine Dream" :)

    That Is COOL!

    Sounds like "Tangerine Dream" :)

That Is COOL! Yeah, like Tangram or Force Majure'

  • I accidentally just removed the last comment. Sorry. These guys need an "undo" button. But in answer to your "how is it effected" question ... very little. Mostly it's straight Stick with some delay and just a little reverb. The "solo" section adds some distortion to it.

  • hehe i love how the people outside are like OOooh what is that?

    great song!

  • Wow. I see a whole evening of experimentation with my guitar and a makeshift mute strap ahead of me.

  • Glenn Poorman, you are truly a master of your work. Thanks for being what you are

  • Every time I see this I keep on wondering... where/how does the drum part come in? xD

  • lol. I know I've seen you other posts. Drum sequence setup on computer. Maybe activated by foot pedal? check out "jordan rudess" he's got a crazy set-up.

  • Yea, that would make sense, but how he gets it perfectly in time is still beyond me. It's really just amazing. =P

  • Hi all. The looper I use is the Echoplex Digital Pro and it's MIDI implementation is a monster. The tempo on the drum machine is synced with the looper via MIDI. In addition, I can push a button on my foot controller and have the looper send the drum machine a "song start" message. Fun stuff!

  • How much does one of those go for these days?

  • Well ... that is the rub. Brand new they are still going for about $1000 from most online retailers.

  • Oh those loopers. What CAN'T they do? =P

Thanks fer the reply. I plan to play the Stick somewhere down the road and this info is a great help.

  • This blows my mind, really brings out the futuristic look of the instrument. I suppose unseen foot-pedals are being used for the sequencer. In 100 years every coffee-house is going to have a stickist in "The Jetsons" clothes playing like this, hahaha.

  • Sounds like techno. Hahaha.

  • This is an absolutely awesome performance! The audio is a little muddy, but this is a mic'd Live performance, not mic'd at the source. I love this song! The CD version, while being the same song, technically, doesn't evoke the same feeling as this performance. I've offered $15 to Glenn to redo this exact performance, which so happens to be the cost of the *entire CD* he's got on CDBaby! THAT'S how much I like this one song!

    The Chapman Stick rulez! :-)

  • : )

  • I really like this piece. Great use of the looper and nice tone. Excellent.

  • Fantastic. Thanks for posting.

  • Hey Glenn! Congrats on your new CD. Really cool stuff! We've got some vids up now, so come on by some time. - Matt Rogers / Heartstrings

    chapman stick rules

  • Amazing performance, Glenn. Some day I'll play my Stick live... :)

  • incredible,thanks for your art

  • incredible!!

  • man i love this stuff. instrument of the future. yea... im gonna wait for the price to go down on the stick tho.. maybe in 2086

  • this is awesome! any chance you could upload this on rapidshare or something like that or upload a mp3 of it?

    Cheers

  • Strange, not too long ago I was watching a 15 year old play a chapman stick at the battle of the bands in Detroit 2007.

  • Glenn, you have just validated my six-year fantasy of rave solo loopness. It IS possible (now that I have a Stick).

  • sounds like rush meets depeche mode-

    i like it

  • Awesome music

  • Great Stuff....One of the nicest displays of live looping I have seen....fantastic....great job keeping time without any percussion...love the distortion solo near the end...

  • Sounds like sasha!

  • This would be a great piece to perform at a rave, wouldn't it? Glow-sticks, black lights, face-paint, and Chapman Stick...

  • Great stuff. It sounds like he's managing some pretty complex technology, some kind of digital looping maybe, in addition to playing the Stick, which has to be a relatively difficult instrument in the first place. The sound he got out of it was good.

I was not really aware that the Stick was still around. I remember it from Tony Levin in King Crimson in the 80's. Its a remarkable instrument.

  • Hell yeah, Chapman stick is the best instrument! And with these effects, it sound even better

  • It's a Chapman Stick, the greatest instrument ever invented! :) Just wish I could afford one :(

Also great use of live loop sampling by the sound of it.

  • Awesome music Glenn. Could you upload the video of "Sunday in Salt Spring"? Thats my fav.

  • i think it's some kind of midi controller

  • what kind of guitar synth is that? a Roland unit?

  • WOW!!!

  • Very nice stuff.

  • This video is available at Poorman's website (for download even), http://www.poorman.*ws/detroitstick/gallery/video/ (minus the star). Though you probably knew this (:

Still, good video of a good player.

  • Beautiful.
