I used to ghost the Chapman Stick mailing list (and will join once again when I finally pick one up... it got to be too much of a tease reading about them) and remember when you posted this on your website... in QuickTime under its original name. It's aged *Incredibly* well, and I'll be picking up your "121normal" CD sooner rather than later. :D
I'm writing again because this still blows my mind and I showed it to some FaceBook friends. This futuristic music belongs with flying air-cars from THE JETSONS. But before that can happen we need nuclear fusion, anti-gravity, world peace, and those really bitchin' saucer-shaped neck-pieces.
But hang in there, dude, your number will come up!
I accidentally just removed the last comment. Sorry. These guys need an "undo" button. But in answer to your "how is it effected" question ... very little. Mostly it's straight Stick with some delay and just a little reverb. The "solo" section adds some distortion to it.
lol. I know I've seen you other posts. Drum sequence setup on computer. Maybe activated by foot pedal? check out "jordan rudess" he's got a crazy set-up.
Hi all. The looper I use is the Echoplex Digital Pro and it's MIDI implementation is a monster. The tempo on the drum machine is synced with the looper via MIDI. In addition, I can push a button on my foot controller and have the looper send the drum machine a "song start" message. Fun stuff!
This blows my mind, really brings out the futuristic look of the instrument. I suppose unseen foot-pedals are being used for the sequencer. In 100 years every coffee-house is going to have a stickist in "The Jetsons" clothes playing like this, hahaha.
This is an absolutely awesome performance! The audio is a little muddy, but this is a mic'd Live performance, not mic'd at the source. I love this song! The CD version, while being the same song, technically, doesn't evoke the same feeling as this performance. I've offered $15 to Glenn to redo this exact performance, which so happens to be the cost of the *entire CD* he's got on CDBaby! THAT'S how much I like this one song!
Great Stuff....One of the nicest displays of live looping I have seen....fantastic....great job keeping time without any percussion...love the distortion solo near the end...
Great stuff. It sounds like he's managing some pretty complex technology, some kind of digital looping maybe, in addition to playing the Stick, which has to be a relatively difficult instrument in the first place. The sound he got out of it was good.
I was not really aware that the Stick was still around. I remember it from Tony Levin in King Crimson in the 80's. Its a remarkable instrument.
This video is available at Poorman's website (for download even), http://www.poorman.*ws/detroitstick/gallery/video/ (minus the star). Though you probably knew this (:

Well ... that is the rub. Brand new they are still going for about $1000 from most online retailers.

Strange, not too long ago I was watching a 15 year old play a chapman stick at the battle of the bands in Detroit 2007.

Glenn, you have just validated my six-year fantasy of rave solo loopness. It IS possible (now that I have a Stick).
