Yes I have fired a 500 magnum, but in the pistol form. Haven't fired a super-light shoulder rifle in that anything. What does the 12 gauge have to do with anything, and where are are you getting this info that they dislocate shoulders from?
.500 rounds vary from pussy cat to kick the crap out of you. The handi rifles are light so they make it a lot worse. The hottest rounds will bruise your hand in a pistol and hurt your wrist, If you doubt they would hurt in a light weight rifle you just fail at physics.
For people saying hes a pussy... Have you ever heard of pain threshold? People are like OH this ones a baby or pussy or whatever, but its POSSIBLE they just cant handle pain as much as the next guy. Its not their fault. I'm not saying that hes not being a baby about it. But I am saying that its possible he's not.
@XtremeConditioning someone who cant handle pain. that is the definition of a pussy. the physical affect of the butt ramming your shoulder is no different to mine, pain is very much in the eye of the beholder... so to speak. it can be managed, and if you go into something feeling like a victim you will probably be indulging in the pain more and looking for sympathy. pussy. to see a grown man acting like a little girl naturally provokes the response that he is a pussy. he is.
@tubestick00 And you're a fucking moron, but you don't see me complaining about that, right? Wait, yeah you do. Any response you can come up with is illogical, dont bother. Pain tolerance is a scientific fact, go look it up before you make yourself look like a fucking dumbass (I don't want to use retard) online where everyone can see. But to be honest, it's probably not your fault, you're just negatively influenced by your wannabe gang-banger friends. Good day, and try to rise above them ;)
Ah come on man!!! That rifle doesn't kick! It's a pistol cartridge in a heavy-ass rifle! Well, what can I say, recoil is subjective. Some people say that a .30-06 kicks.
The Handi-rifle is a really super fun gun to shoot, in any of its chamberings. The Handi-rifle will cleanly take on any North American big game too. There is only 1 problem with the 500 S&W though... It's PRICE! $75.00 a box of 20! That's almost $4.00 a boom! Better learn how to reload it if you're not rich.
my muzzy is loaded with 150 grains of BP and a 240 grain slug it will out kick this one, the 500 S&W is usually chambered in a handgun but some rifle companies chamber it in singleshot rifles
@hunterwr69: nothing, the 50AE can only chamber 3/4 of the way in, due to an oversized bell base. and if you were to possibly chamber it fully, due to the tight fit, the rifle would after being fired suffer catastrophic damage and possibly blow up the chamber of the rifle from the overpressure and confined fit of the 50AE within a 500smith and wesson chamber
I had the idea to pack this round or a .44 mag into a carbine. It would be a good brush rifle/scout gun. Massive trauma and about the same energy as a .223.
dude its a handi rifle...they are a dime a dozen and it recoils less than a 3.5 magnum 1oz slug which is .72 caliber or 2oz of #4 buckshot will put you on your ass if you arent ready for it...so go back to your world of warcraft game.
Actually when I say you can't afford it, it's because most people don't buy one of these for a main rifle, more for plinking. These are also alot lighter than any 12 gauge you will find. All you probably own is a 12 gauge, maybe it's daddy's? World of warcraft? Haha, on of the few times it's even been an item or statement in my life is when you wrote your response. A lightweight single shot is devastating no matter what round you put in the tube, and a .500 s&w at the shoulder.....
I got an h n r single shot 12 gauge cut to the legal minimum and you dont shoot that gun for fun.Last time i did 10 years ago it left a knot on my shoulders as big as an orange....easy to carry...not fun to shoot. I can sympathize with you.
I want the Wild West lever action rifle. Though, I'd probably get my local gunsmith to build me a 30" barrel to dampen the recoil a bit and increase velocity and accuracy
I went back and watched and on the first shot (if you watch it long enough), you can see his hand grip the fore end just as the rifle discharges. That's a definite flinch!
I have the pistol (4"bbl) and the rifle in 500S&W mag. Light loads = light kick. Heavy loads = heavy kick. Big bullets, like the 700 grain, push more like a shotgun slug. Smaller, faster loads, like CorBon 440s and 500s kick the beejabbers out of you. All of them have concussion that hits the face like a bomb went off- a literal shock wave. Pistol is for bear protection, whereas rifle is for hunting and to only need one caliber/bullet for both guns. Rifle is easy to pack.
If it hurts in a rifle, the handgun has to be brutal.

Dear H&R,
Please make a Handi-Rifle in .460 S&W Magnum. Thanks.

I have a 12 gauge H&R that I use for trap. I know this is not the same as your magnum but perhaps the same principle applies.
I noticed that the pain I feel from recoil when wearing just a t-shirt is considerably more than when I wear even a light jacket.
Try wearing a jacket or sweatshirt (anything thicker than a t-shirt) and that will reduce the felt-recoil considerably.

Why get a 12 gauge, because you can't afford something like this? And by the way, this kicks harder than a 12 gauge will with 3/12 magnums......
