  • Are you a nirvana freak like me xD

  • That color, in 1964, was called "Sonic Blue", and was quite popular. I gigged once with a (borrowed) Mustang in '65. Typical of anything Leo did, it was a helluva lot of guitar for the money. Unfortunately, it ultimately led (long after Leo left) to monstrosities like the "Jag-Stang", an absolutely horrible guitar (yes, I've played one). My very favorite Fender, which I owned for about ten years, was the Jazzmaster.

  • My dad has an original 64 needs to be redone so im gonna take it and redo it for him cant wait to see his face when its done.

  • @jmmurray1 make sure your dad is not into that whole 'aged worn look' first. He might actually like the way it looks now.

  • @bloc22 I did he has had it repainted already i just have to get all the hard ware installed he actually found a set of the original pickups to put in it just need to get it all pieced back together.

  • @jmmurray1 That's awesome. Sound like your dad will be really happy.

  • Thought I'd help explain this stang for everyone since I own an all original '64, the neck is in fact a '64 neck I know this because this one only has 21 frets and is the original true 21 1/2 inch short-scale Mustang. Most '64's were. The RI's were only made with the 22 fret neck. Decals were changed and r wrong, those r late 60's-70's decals. Tuners are non original and should be white plastic Klusons. Body is too new, should have aged greenish color. This is a mix old/new. Missing "L" serial.

  • gosh i love this guitar! i have the same one! exept my uncle painted it white when he had it XD its goregous!

  • where do you live? exact street address please so I can break into your house and steal that beast!

  • This one is MINT! please don't try to break it or something like that!

  • 400$ ???

  • With the lights out, its less dangerous, here we are now, ENTERTAIN US!!!! Long Live Nirvana!!!!!

  • i always thinked about getting this guitar becasued kurt kobain used it in smells like teen sprit but now that you showed me it im getting it

    thanks :)

  • i always thinked about getting this guitar becasued kurt kobain used it in smells like teen sprit but now that you showed me it im getting

    thanks :)

  • that looks like a reissue

  • its a reissue....it doesent have the fender F engraved on the neck plate on the back......sorry.....

  • The neck plate on the '64 Mustang has only the L series serial number engraved. Nothing else. I don't know if the the F logo started in 1965 or later. CBS took over Fender in Janurary, 1965.

  • ya nirvana . i so want that guitar

  • why is it that when every time i see a mustang guitar video or see a guy playing it its always nirvana songs is not that i hate them their a good band but come on play something else or put a different song

  • @hoooot4 I believe it has to do with Kurt Cobain's love for the Fender Mustang and Jaguar model guitars.

  • @sionEmber alot people like those guitars not just him

  • @hoooot4 You missed the point. Its obvious from the start of this video that skipjohnson is a Nirvana fan plus its a mustang closely resembling one of(except for the pick guard) Cobain's own guitars. And yeah i know alot of people love these guitars

  • @sionEmber you sure are a fanboy

  • @hoooot4 Cobain made the guitar popular again.

  • sweet nirvana but to typical for that song

  • Surely mustangs didn't have the oversized headstock back then?

  • @Timmy4pawz The Mustangs did Have the over sized head stocks. They were originally Jaguar necks with the over sized head stock. If you look at vintage Jaguars they had the over sized head stocks.

  • how is this guitar? Thinking of buying it

  • how much did it cost?

  • hmm, I think I might steal this.

  • You're 1964 Mustang is not original! And whoever certified it as orginal , doesn't know his guitars. Your tuners aren't the original Kluson tuners and your neck plate doesn't have the L series serial number. I have the identical guitar that I purchased new in December, 1964. But you only invested $400.

  • @clinchco It could be the re-issue, which is worth a lot less. But i totally agree. No Klusons tuners, and wrong serial number. The date should be stamped on the end of the neck, and there are no model/paten numbers at the other end. I bought one in '65, but it was built in '64, pre CBS. This one is worth $400 though i think.

  • @clinchco I had what I thought was a '65 Mustang in Daphne Blue. It had the F on the neck plate and the serial # starting with L. I bought it for a 100 bucks in 1975. I don't have it anymore. But I found out that the large F on the neck plate didn't start till CBS got hold of Fender. Correct me if I'm wrong. But That's what I learned on some other Fender related site.

  • wow! Great mustang. I am glad you like one of the greatest Fenders made that was overlooked by many guitarists! Also were did you get that picture of Kurt holding the competition mustang? Ive never seen him play it other than "smells like team spirit".

  • Not the same guitar used for Smells Like Teen Spirit, Kurt's was a '69 Fender Competition Mustang.

  • can you even play? ;)

  • Too bad this isn't an original 1964 Fender Mustang =[

  • @RyGuy52389 it is

  • Reason I say it isn't because on originals there are a few things.

    1. On the tuners, there is a Fender Logo. And there aren't any on this one. Even if he/she replaced them, then it's not original.

    2. No model number on the neck plate. Just a blank plate. On my Fender 64 there is a number, and there isn't anything. Once again, is he/she did replace, it's not original. Not anymore.

  • @RyGuy52389 true, but the person probably had it restored if it is vintage

  • I so badly want a racing stripe mustang.

  • I've seen Kurt's actual competition fender mustang ( the one with the racing stripe) at the EMP in seattle, the head stock only says fender on it. no mustang logo. I think thats pretty common with left handed fenders (mustangs) from that era.

  • Hey sorry to break it to you but if it is a real 1964 Mustang a lot og things on it aren't original and how come the headstock doesn't have the the Des and Pat numbers on it? It might not be original...

  • Do you suck balls? Gibson are lame like your mamma in bed.

  • gibsons have a different sound, one is not better than the other. I love both.

Fenders have a far superior clean sound, bluesy sound, and searing lead sounds.

Gibsons are better for classic rock, plus i find the SG easier to play than the strat

  • Nice mustang, is it a re-issue?

  • Nope, it is the real deal.

  • R u sure?

  • Of course I'm sure, I have the guitar on my wall and it is clearly not a new reissue. I have had it certified by an authorized fender dealer here in the Seattle area.

  • @skipjohnson2

Dont get me wrong skip, its a lovely guitar but 64 mustangs should have plastic head klusons, and a pearloid pickguard,

it should also have a L series neckplate,

and pat pend no's on headstock,

  • get your own style and stop sucking nirvanas dick

  • @mtanyc nirvana's dick is just so delicious, though!! it tastes just like a candy cane!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • is this guitar good for classic 60s rock

  • w/ the right setting yea but u should check out the epiphone casino cuz that was a rly popular guitar in the 60s

  • you just replied to your own coomment ben.

  • beautiful guitar!

    how much did it cost?

  • I only paid $400. got it from the guy I buy guitars from and he took it in as a trade and sold it to my at his cost.

  • i wish the reissue mustangs were that color but they are a really dull blue Dx

  • Buddy Holly he used that guitar like around 1956 something

  • Nice. I have the same guitar in the same color too.

  • nirvanaaa

  • any chance u can make a vid of you playin it?

  • nope. i do not like seeing myself on video :-)

  • loevley guitar, does it sound good in overdrive?

  • @skipjohnson2

Get someone else to play it.

  • @skipjohnson2 You dont need to show you'r face >.> but i got a re-issue so im going to put on some vids when i get some upgrades. :)

    dude! i want that

    guitar so bad! =S

  • Did you have to use smells like teen spirit? Could have used any other nirvana song and I'da been happy. nice guitar though, I have a 64 too, but it has been modified a good bit. That's how I was able to afford it.

  • I don't know why people have given you so many thumbs down on that comment. Whats wrong with liking SLTS more than any other nirvana song. Just cos it's their most popular doesnt mean that it cant be a true nirvana fans favorite either...(my fav is actually heart-shaped box)

  • its becausew just because Kurt didnt like it so they have to all copy him

  • it's there most famous song.. far away from the best, but still good (in my opinion)

  • Kurt cobain played his sonic blue Jag stang on the european utero tour in 1994.

I watched the last concert in Munich.

  • I have a 1994 sonic blue mustang with a red mother pearl pickguard like kurt used...

  • I play a 2004 Fender Fiesta red Jag-stang.

  • I play a 2004 Fender jag stang reissue model.

    I love the Mustang .

Kurt Cobain recorded Nevermind on a Black and white Fender Japan Stratocaster.

  • cool you got a jag-stang same here i got the original

  • he had one jaguar a 67 model with a 68 neck with the white binding.

it was his second favorite guitar after a 69 model mustang comp. in lake placid bleu.

seen in smells like teen spirit.

he had all sorth of mustangs.

in his early day a sunburst.

he preffert on stage a modded japanese one.

    because he was left.

and he didn't like the jagstang,.because it was not completed

  • very nice mustang though!!

must have cost you a fortune.

  • I paid $400!!!!!!!

    Pretty sweet deal huh?

My guitar supplier called me when it got traded in and sold it to me for the price he paid.

Had some work done on the headstock as it did not have the Mustang/Fender logo. The headstock had to be refurbished, that cost $200.

  • i repair guitars, and i charge about 20 bucks for that same job, plus the logo, which i sell around 10 dlls

  • kurts guitar was a fender jaguar mustang neck later on called jag stang he always had a mustang neck on his jaguar but he liked the jaguar body more.

  • dude kurt always used a jaguar but said his favorite was a mustang

  • He never recorded with a Mustang, and later on, he said a Tele was his new favorite guitar.

  • @BucksStudent as far as music videos the only one he used a mustang in was teen spirit. usually he did use a jag or mexican strat. idk if he said he liked teles though. kurt was attracted to crappy sounding guitars. and so am i lmao

  • @krazy4knives Oh, he loved his Tele before he died. I suggest reading up on it. Guitar World had a Guitar Legends mag out a few years ago with details about it. Before he died, he was fed up with Mustangs, Jags, etc and really liked his Tele, which was custom made for him by Fender. He got it two weeks before he died, and used it for some home demos. Plus, he owned two before that, one which you see in the Come as You Are Video.

  • @BucksStudent thanks for the info man! nirvana is my favorite band and my main musical influence. long live grunge!

  • i thought kurt kobain used jaguar

  • I have never found any pictures of Kurt with a Jaguar. He did work with Fender to make the JagStang (Jaguar/Mustang hybrid).

  • You guys are all wrong.

Kurt's first guitar he toured with and used was a fender jaguar with dual whit hum buckers, he said it was his pride and joy, his favorite.

Followed by numerous mustangs (sonic blue/brown pick guard with a single pick up and humbucker)

Yeah Kurt designed the jaguar but was not impressed with it and sent it back, he died before the final adjustments were made.

There is an entire list of all of Kurts guitars on line

Range from strats to off brads.

    RIP Kurt Cobain 67-forever

  • Kurt played the Jag-Stang at a concert about two times on the in utero tour and didnt like some features so he sent it back and that was the sonic blue one. the fiesta red one was ready and about to be sent out to him the same day word got out he died. The blue one was givin to the guitarist of REM and he played it in the whats the frequency kenneth video. the red one was put in the fender museum in california and they are tryng to sell it. the blue 1 hasnt been seen in a long time.

  • dude u serious?

just goto google and type in "kurt cobain jaguar" and you even see it in a couple of seens in nirvana's lithium.

    it's a sunburst jagaur

  • Do you know how to date a mustang body?

  • It is hard. You have to really look at other parts (neck, pots, switches, etc.) and then male you best guess as to whether the body goes with the other parts.

  • Thankyou

  • i wish i could make my guitar play without playing. yee have wizard and spirit in your deluxe old guitar. mighty crafy ye ol sir. lololoz lulz
