I think there's a bit of a "not good" story behind this.

Giger had ideas for a much better way to execute this, but....of course, the studio wouldn't hear it.

I would truly love to find out what the original design was. Also, the big tentacled thing that the vomit creature grew into was never seen quite clearly.. that, I would've loved to have glimpsed.

Yeah, you're right, we never clearly see the creature in full plan, only a vague silhouette, with a claws and a few twisting tentacles. Still, the design is awesome, very reminiscent of HP Lovecraft, too. I especially like the tormented faces of Kane's followers that are fused onto his body in the final scene.

you need to look up the video that shows the making of polterguist 2. it shows the drawings this derived from. and it was a vietnam veteran  that wore the suit (a man with no arms and legs)

Yes, his name is Noble Craig, he is an amputee actor ; i think i also saw a few pre-production designs for the Vomit Creature on H.R. Giger's website :) Notably the one with the grin (1:07), and another design for the creature under its final form on the Other Side.
