  • I always thought this song was by the Jackson 5!lol

  • Was there ever a time that all 4 of the sisters performed with their brothers?

  • I was in love with the Slyvers growing up. This a classic, the 70s were fun!

  • I SO wanted to perform with this awesome family. I'm sorry Ricky and Foster have had it bad. I would practice the moves in front of the mirror at my house and my dad walked in on me once and said "You ain't got no rhythm!!" HAHAHA

  • did anyone watch the silvers episode of unsung on tv one? i love disco. i think it should make a comeback. the disco era looked like it was so much fun.

  • Classic for clear lyrics, clean fun and solid dance.

  • Maaaaaaaannnn! That footwork is something serious! WOW!

  • aaaahhh I can never get enough of the old school

  • Memories dayummm

  • whooooooooooo.....geourges.....jeeeeeeee

  • people shouldnt clap at this... THEY SHOULD BOW DOWN

  • @lukesky1212 Claping is fine.Only BOW DOWN TO GOD...Not to human beings who can sing and dance only GOD is worthy to Bow down To

  • @dimpsey3

    amen

  • gorgeous, all of them! love the Sylvers!

  • they were all so cute

  • Who came here because of Big Mike from season 5 of Chuck? Thumbs up!!!

  • That's the most impressive afro I've ever seen...

  • Edmund was so damn fine! May he R.I.P headstone or not...

  • @COP20VOW

Couldn't help but smile at your comment. Ricky wasn't bad either. I was peeping him in the back, lol. : )

  • This got into my head from Chuck!! HELP!

  • chuck !!!

  • Dang! It took 8 of them to sing the song? lol - Great song though!

  • aswem!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • He looks like Junior from My Wife and Kids

  • Happy Birthday Ricky and Olympia!

  • Dont forget to like the sylvers offical page and join their message board at yahoo groups, support the group and get updates at the same time...

  • Why didn't this guy become the next Michael Jackson?

  • reminds me of the clothes the Brady Bunch wore for their talent contest on t.v to win money to buy the silver platter for their mom and dad's anniversary.

  • The dislike button shouldn't even EXIST on any Sylvers video.

  • Stephen King used the lyrics to this song in "The Stand." I always thought - being a fan of both SK & The Sylvers - that it was very cool.

  • I TYPED COOKIE FEVER DAM YOU KEYBOARD WHY ARE YOU SO OLD

  • @ daretosayit...Ur welcome. Shoot..thank you.

  • Remember back then girls, when the only kind of guy you wanted to date was one with a big afro?

  • I love their unsung episode, prior to their documentary special, I'll already been listening to the sylvers songs. Much respect and good wishes arise.

  • LIke if The Stand brought you here... "Don't SCREW with my disco, Nadine!"

  • Loved their music.

  • BOOGIE BOOGIE BOOGIE. LOOK AT THEM BEE HIVES ON THEIR HEAD

  • Deeeeeeee-yaaaaammm! The moves, the outfits, the fros! These kats had it all!

  • @ThwartMorten there not cats dumbshit there humans/monkeys

  • @ProFishingGuys ..It's they're you inbred.

  • @HolyHeLLmeister no i used there on purpose because i dont like saying they're as they r humans

  • Wow! Thanks daretosayit! I especially love that last line of your commentary b/c the best headstones are indeed the ones crafted w/in our hearts. Well said.

  • @CeddyJam ..Thank you. It was actually your revelation about the absence of a headstone that made me really think that truly significant headstones are often carried with us. You had my mind in philosophical mode there...lol. Thank you for your thoughts.

  • The stand

  • CHOREOGRAPHY ALWAYS HOTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT!!

  • chris brown?

  • @MissNophi2U Lol i was thinking same thing

  • How did Edmund Sylver die of cancer? Did he smoke?

  • The Jackson 5 was a very influential group

  • I can't believe that it's been 7 yrs since Edmund Sylvers' death & there isn't a grave to prove that he was here. It's none of my business, but that's so sad to me. When families fail to invest in a headstone for their deceased family member, it sends a message to to fans & other unrelated spectators that the person's life was insignificant. That was certainly not the case for Mr. Sylvers. He was loved.

  • @CeddyJam ...I never knew he didn't have a headstone. Have to admit, it does seem a bit remiss & sad. He has 11 children, all siblings except the youngest are still living, plus a ton of nieces and nephews and no one has had a headstone crafted for Edmund? I will give the benefit of the doubt and surmise that there is a reason (or perhaps a request) as we know he was a well loved member of the family - as well as loved by fans. Perhaps the best headstones are the ones crafted within our hearts.

  • Charmaine really stands out in this video. I can't take my eyes off of her. She looks like she is having a great time. So beautiful too!!!

  • @texasballom---If you can believe it, Charmaine was PREGNANT during this performance but she was still working it out though! @CeddyJam, I didn't know that about Edmund either but like dartosayit said there may be way MORE to it than we know.

  • @dh1173 I worked with Charmaine for a while. She's a sweet person and I liked her a lot. She didn't even tell me about her background until we had worked together for about a year. After that I got her to tell me some good Michael Jackson stories and Donny & Marie stories. Really super nice person.

  • @XyIv --Wow, that's amazing!! I've always known their music (the BOOGIE FEVER era mostly) because my older sisters were fans and The Fish That Saved Pittsburgh movie. After watching UNSUNG though, I'm a fan 4 life of this talented family hopefully newer generations will feel the same.

  • To be this talented and look this good.......they should be as great as the Jackson's in history

  • Used to have the biggest crush on Foster. He and Randy Jackson were my favorite two people in the world back in the day. Edmund looked like one of my cousins. The Sylvers were very underated.

  • Freakin' love it!!

  • the youngest Sylver "Foster" sounds just like Michael J. :D

  • Didn`t mean to post that comment that many times. But you still sound like a straight NUT.

  • @metal1230 I get you bro, my bad. And don't worry about Infinite Asshole, he's gay and makes no sense at all. He's alone in his little penis havin' world! lol. Not one person here backing him up! You'd think that would shut him up...nah, not when ur a nut! lol

  • I used to love this song!!!

  • oh my fucking god.

  • Love their Afros!!!

  • @sayhey2dacook1 ...I am so loving how their afros are also grooving along with their bodies as they do their dance moves!

  • This song MAKES ME SO HAPPY!

  • @InfinityNebula,

VH1 100 Greatest Artists Of All Time...Prince #7...a little high imo. Leon and the Slyvers # ??? aww shucks...didn't quite make the top 100. I'm heart-broken. BTW, you made me do this! Next time focus on the featured artist and don't bring any one else in it. It's not gonna help. Hell, you got me talking bad about them and I actually dig them...thanks to u and ur big mouth. Enough already, act ur age. : )

    PS- u sound a bit perturbed...just me.

  • @InfinityNebula Songwriting? Look at the times man. I dont see Leon doing anything at all, good or bad. Prince doesnt relate to todays shitty music. As a whole its horrible. the REAL legends are becoming scarce and far between. u dont like Prince for what ever reason, thats on u. as for his mischievous past..he was a teenager man! I came here to give props to the Sylvers and what do U write about? PRINCE! U probably got something bad to say about MJ too. I look at careers as a whole,no contest.

  • @pickzkickz Todays music is not quality at all however the music Prince has produced has been atrocious as well Leon continues to produce movies and good music and didnt suck dick to do it

Move on Prince is over and done nobody cares about Prince accept cocksuckers like you LoL

Prince represents the satanic Boule and how they destroyed the Black community to gain fame and wealth you have no concept of reality every Black in america had had to suck dick to gain success in america fool

  • The difference here is Leon Sylvers had THE TALENT to take any act and make them successful PRINCE stole songs and those songs recorded by other artist were always better versons than his LoL

PRINCE IS NOT A GOOD PRODUCER ITS QUESTIONABLE IF HE WROTE MOST OF THE SONGS HE CLAIMS HE DID You do know that WENDY AND LISA STATED THAT THEY WROTE MOST OF THE PURPLE RAIN SONGS ? IF PRINCE ACTUALLY WROTE THOSE SONGS HE WOULD STILL BE SUCCESSFUL WARNER DROPPED HIM BECAUSE HE WAS A LOUSY WRITER

  • @Dumber, "Apollonia 6 "Sex Shooter" #19 "Sheila E "Sister Fate" #36 "Sheila E "Koo Koo" #35 "The Family "The Screams Of Passion" #9 "The Family "High Fashion" #34 "Patti Labelle "Yo Mister" #6 "Madhouse "6" #5 "Mazarati "100 MPH" #19 "Mavis Staples "Melody Cool" #36 "The Time "Get It Up" #6 "The Time "Cool" #7 "The Time "777-9311" #2 "The Time "The Walk" #24 "The Time "Ice Cream Castles" #11 "Vanity 6 "Nasty Girl" #7 Thats page 2 of 12...I got all night! But not 4 U! U lost bro!
  • @pickzkickz Where is Apollonia. Martika, Sheila E The Time, Sheena Easton, Genuwine or The Bangles today?? LoL Those are not major acts they are whats called Lower B acts Not A List acts

Prince did not produce those people any way even assuming Prince did actually write the songs which brings me to my point here- If Prince actually wrote instead of stole those songs WHY HAS PRINCE NOT HAD ANY SUCCESS SINCE THE 1980s and Purple Rain being his biggest success what happend ?? LoL

  • @pickzkickz Lets look at cd's Prince actually PRODUCED LIKE LEON DID OK ENTIRE CD's ok

SODOMITE MARTIKA produced by Prince FAILED Larry Graham Cd produced by Prince a falure, Martika produced by Prince failure The only reason I feel for you worked was because of Chaka's incredible vocals nothing to do with Prince LoL Notice all the songs recorded by other artist were much better versions of the songs Prince wrote which tells you he is not a very good singer or arranger producer LoL

  • @InfinityNebula When you attempt to make thought provoking comments it would help if you didn`t come across as an absolute NUT.

  • @metal1230 You are seeking attention and belong in an insane asylum obviously your queer ass was disturbed by TRUTH AND ATTEMPTED TO FLOOD THE PAGE LIKE THE TROLL YOU ARE GET A LIFE You offer nothing to this thread but ignorance queer

  • THE SYLVERS was an honest open Black family act that relied on TALENT not GIMMICKS to sell records

Prince was a talented musician but he is overrated and his music was never diverse Prince stole music and publishing from his own friends like Andre Symone and Dez Dickerson and several others who sent Prince demos at Paisley Park In Minnesota

I dont hate Prince but Prince betrayed Black artist in the 80s by selling out to jew record execs Prince has not sold anything since the 1980s

  • That Edmund was a cutie.

  • The great hair accents the great dancing! Before weaves.

  • Ahhh, 1975, the year I graduated high school. Disco ROCKS!

  • lol, watching this after seeing unsung. 8/1/11

  • They were not somuch a singing group as they were a dancing choir. Love it!

  • I had to watch all of The Sylvers videos after watching "Unsung". What an emotional and touching story about their family. Always loved them. They looked good, sounded great and their moves were always on point.

Wishing continued blessings to the Sylvers family.

  • they afros where just to tight,,,,

  • Cool song!

  • They have a resemblance of the Jackson family, lol.

  • The Sylvers had the best afros in the business!

  • HEY PPL BIG RESPECT TO LEON SYLVERS for taking the family on his shoulders after their father abandoned them when Leon was 17-

Thats a lot of pressure for anyone to take on at that age and then having the family abandon Leon when they were Brainwashed by their JEW MANAGER

In a strange twist LEON tnen becomes one of the first successful black producers ever at SOLAR RECORDS even more than OVERRATED PRINCE at that time producing songs for The Whispers and Shalamar LEON IS BRILLIANT~!

  • @InfinityNebula Did u say overrated Prince as in the artist?

  • @pickzkickz Absolutely PRINCE THE ARTIST is very OVERRATED as a singer and producer

Leon Sylvers was a much more talented producer because he was diverse producing his family, The Whispers, Shalamar and many many more- Prince was basically a NOVELTY ACT who moaned about sex and debauchery

  • @InfinityNebula LOL! You related to the Sylvers!? Prince is the biggest name in the world! Who is Leon Sylvers? 99.9 % of ppl dont even know who he is. I saw the unsung and just finished watching the Debarge one too. They had more success than the Sylvers aka wanna be Jackson 5. They had ONE song!! Prince not only produced but wrote and created many groups and artists. His resume is 10x more impressive. Sorry Leon didnt work out. "For You", he was 18!!!! Wrote and played every instrument on it.

  • @pickzkickz Have you ever stopped and thought about PRINCE'S androgynous look?

Do you know what that was all about? Black artist did not begin to become androgynous until the 80's when Jew producers forced this on Black male acts like Prince and Michael Jackson , although Mj never wore tiger skin leggings or Bikini like Prince did-PRINCE SOLD HIS SOUL after the First recording For You because his label was about to drop him- Leon was about music and production and did not sell out~!

  • @InfinityNebula so you mean their dad just LEFT their mom with ALL those kids? isn't this similar to the Debarge's? wow. i bet he was sorry after they made it big.

  • @musiqtube1 & @InfinityNebula,

Thanks to Olympia's daughter, Tyava, we learned that Mr. Sylvers DID return, reconciled with his family and gave his life to Christ before passing away several years ago they just didn't have time to cover it on UNSUNG.

  • @InfinityNebula Are U serious? U really think Prince is overrated?

  • Thumbs up if you've accidentally eaten a cookie robot.

  • That was a great Unsung episode, the Sylvers were a forgotten group. Leon Sylvers wrote most of the hits for Solar Records.

  • Unsung is an amazing show. So much I never knew about the Sylvers because when they were out I was a little girl but I loved listening to their music. Sad that the others were influenced to turn against their older brother who was the backbone of the group and was there to guide them after their father left them. Very sad what happened to Olympia. It did my heart good to see them standing behind their mother singing. With the few that were up there they sound great!

  • when does the oldest sister leaves the group?

  • What ever happen to good songs like this? New school cannot compete with this. Everyone can enjoy this, nothing is about degradation, promoting a slave mentality, just a classy family and a good song. I love Disco!!!

  • they sound just like the jacksons

  • It was a good episode on UnSung about them!!

  • Sylvers

  • I wish I knew who each one was, I only know a few, Edmund and the youngest one, can't wait for Unsung to come on tonight so I can watch

  • @lrwsoreal Pat, Angie, Charmaine, James, Ricky, Edmund, Leon, and Foster!

  • Good times...It's about FUN.

  • That could have been my family. I have 4 sister's and 3 brother's. Wow!

  • Like it!

  • "Like" if you've been watching The Sylvers on Youtube in preparation for their Unsung episode airing Aug 1, 2011!!!!!!!!!

  • @carlagirl7 You know I have! :-) I just wish there were more videos available. "High School Dance," "Any Way You Want Me," "Mista Guitar Man" to name a few.

  • @WayneInSF ....I hope if anyone has those videos, that they see your comment:)!!!.....

You know in the Unsung promo.... there is a clip of them in red sweaters with a big "S" on it singing "High School Dance"....and I am racking my brain trying to figure out what broadcast that performance is from....If its not reveal on Unsung, I hope some one on Youtube has it and will post it.

  • @carlagirl7

As soon as I started playing this, my husband says, "You're getting ready for Unsung, huh?" Then I look at the comments and you're saying the same thing. Hilarious!!

  • @VideoVixen24 ...LOL!!!!....Nothing like perfect time right!?!....Looking forward to this episode....totally hope that one day the peeps at TV One will make Unsung episodes available on DVD for those of us who are hooked......(This it the type of reality tv that I can get into).

  • @carlagirl7

I agree! It's one of the best shows on TV!! Finally it's here - it comes on tonight, and gonna have my popcorn and kleenex ready! *excited* Taking a cue from last week's Billy Preston, I wanna make sure I have something to wipe my eyes with.

  • @VideoVixen24 Can not wait.. I am so happy TV one listen to everyone's request for the Slyvers! Edmund was my favorite back in the day! The Dvr is already set!!!!

  • @VideoVixen24 Ok.......Just watched 7pm airing UNSUNG: The Sylvers....I should have followed your lead and had kleenex available!!!!....They are an amazing family with an incredible story....For those of us on the west coast, I think it will re-air at 10pm....if you have not watched it you should...Bravo TV One for giving us this episode! I am an even bigger fan now more than ever!

  • @carlagirl7

It was EXCELLENT. I almost completely lost it when they told the story of what happened to the sister. It was SO tragic, but yet she kept going, only to end up being diagnosed with schizophrenia. And the way the group voted the eldest brother out - only to be taken MAJOR advantage of by their crooked manager. 50% of the groups hard earned money? Really? They survived SO many things, but yet still managed to be strong and keep their heads up. Truly a remarkable family.

  • @VideoVixen24 ...And that manager is beyond horrible...He took 50% of their earnings...50%!!!! and then proceeded to block them from performing because they wanted to fight the contract....I know they should have read the contract clearly before signing it.......but just the fact that this manager was so crass, arrogant and greedy to have even presented such a contract in which he takes half.... makes me sick!!!!

  • @carlagirl7 It was a great episode but also a very sad one. I really appreciate The Sylvers now I think they been forgotten about due to them being overshadowed by the Jacksons but to me they were just as talented

RiP Edmound Sylvers Charmaine stay strong.....God be with you

  • @carlagirl7 Their story was sad and beautiful at the same time.

  • The Stand brought me here...

  • The Sylvers had been overlooked for a long time since they were compared to the Jacksons in the 70's; and just when things were looking up for them they were overlooked again in the 80's with DeBarge, hopefully TV One's Unsung does a good job on them.

  • I hadn't heard this in a long time , R I P Edmund.

  • I would like to see Quest Crew boogie to this! :>)

  • Comment removed

  • Great song. Beautiful family

  • too funny havent heard this in forever...

  • I wish we still had a Soul Train...this is when people did real dancing!

  • Looks like Chris Brown, but he wasn't born yet

  • By this year everyone danced the same. I remember that dance but No one had their own unique steps anymore like previous years.

  • o shittt this is chris brow hahah LoL

  • The Sylvers on Unsung? I love that show! I can't wait to see it!

  • @andrea81966 I was wondering if they were going to do that...I didn't see it on the schedule -- but if so, I'm definitely checking it out!

  • I grew up with Soul Train so I remember this music. Much better than the music today in my opinion.

  • Why are there only 236,837 views on this June 23, 2011--there should be at least a million by now and on everyone's playlist.

  • THe young singer has the same voice as Michael Jackson when he was young in the Jackson 5 !!

  • i love disco music.

  • Per Angie Sylvers, the Sylvers Unsung episode will air 8-1-11 on TV ONE. If the date changes she will let us know...

  • gotta love them days when music was MUSIC! and people just boogied down! and the fros! proud to be a wigger and married to a hot black man!

  • It's a fro fest!

  • let me give you some advice my little disco queen: take a walk

  • The Sylvers' hit #1 in Billboard, 5-15-76. Edmund Sylvers sang lead. He was the speakin' voice of Marlon Jackson, on the J5 cartoons. RIP, Edmund. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx!

  • LOVE IT AND GREAT MUSIC!!!!

  • This stuff is just too fuckin' go-oo-od!* There should be a million hit by now not a mere 225K...geez
