Just returned from 2 weeks in Bora Bora. I don't think you actually climbed Otemanu... it's the tallest peak and it looks like you were on the second tallest. Still quite an accomplishment and a great video!
Wow! You are living my dream! It has been a dream of mine my whole life to sail the South Pacific and to Bora Bora, and to climb the mountain and dive in the lagoon. I am soo happy for you guys! Maybe someday I can do it too. :)
@MrTenshu STOP talking like a loser ''wow living my dream maybe someday i can do it'' idiot you can do it its under 14 K so dont buy a car and you will do it... im tired of losers who say: ahhh dream dream... shut up and go there... dont have to be rich to go there so work on your priorities
Thank you for sharing your experience. My wife and I are planning the same trip. One more daughter to raise (2 years more), sell the ranch and leave Morro Bay, CA. Thanks for the encouragement.
It took us 5 hours the first time, but only 4 the next. It's a good scramble, but the hardest part is just finding the trail head. From the main port in town, take one of the residential roads toward the mountain and ask for directions (the locals are all so friendly). From the trail head we added white tape marks to show the trail, which hopefully remain up. Good luck, it's worth it!!!
@sethhynes hey man, going in april of this comin year, wanna do the hike up, would you say you need to be in superb physical condition to make it up? Or can an average 27 year old guy and his wife make it up ok?
@chvytuf A couple readers asked about the hike, which is indeed the 2nd highest (the tallest would require mountain climbing). We found the hike by asking locals who directed us to the trail head, which was off a dirt road originating near the main ferry docks in town. We left yellow electrical tape marking the route for others, but I believe the local guides might take them down (you can always pay them to take you). We figured it out, but it took 6-7 hours and loads of water! Great adventure!!
@chvytuf It was exhausting and did involve some scrambling, but we had several out of shape americans make it to the top on our second try, so as long as you bring plety of water and give yourself rest time you can probably make it. But be prepared to use your hands and legs to get up in certain places. Regardless, it's well worth it!
hey man, my wife and i are going to bb in 1 month. we've been there once before, but i desperately want to do the same hike you did. Your the only person i can find online thats done the hike.
is the hike something your average person could do? or is it pretty rough? we are 27 and both in pretty decent shape.
Hroark7. I was going to delete your comment, but you actually make such a fool of yourself that I am going to leave it up. Wow, the French must be proud. Thanks!

Came across your vids looking at catamarans! I actually want to do the same trip you've done! I have to wait 4 more years for my son to get out of Highschool. I grew-up on Kauai. I surf, ski, sail etc... You both have done such a good job on your documentation! A joy to watch! Take care! Aloha malama pono!..Rory
