I understand Carl's point with the Press 1 or 2 for English, but.. when it comes to driving/certain things like that---english is probably a good idea. Most of the driver's are going to speak english, and if you get in a wreck you need to communicate. Most of the cops are going to speak English, ALL of the traffic signs, warnings, construction, school zones--everything--is in ENGLISH. So, I'd say it makes a bit of since to learn it, in that regard.

You are suffering from liberal delusions. If a person can't read or speak English, then obviously he would be a menace on the road if he can't read traffic signs. Would you give an American a driver's license in China if couldn't read Chinese ? Of course not. Peoples' lives are at stake when we're on the road, and we can't have a bunch of half-bakes driving around endangering the lives of others. One language for each nation, and ours is English, not Spanish.

I understand Carl's point with the Press 1 or 2 for English, but.. when it comes to driving/certain things like that---english is probably a good idea. Most of the driver's are going to speak english, and if you get in a wreck you need to communicate. Most of the cops are going to speak English, ALL of the traffic signs, warnings, construction, school zones--everything--is in ENGLISH. So, I'd say it makes a bit of since to learn it, in that regard.

I mean,I think that someone's language/culture is something to value. If I were in their position and people were saying "Learn English,Learn English" all the time,First: I'd be offended. Secondly: Being offended I'd be discouraged.
English is my native language,but I also speak Spanish. Not because their are many Spanish-speakers,but because fell in love with the language and culture. And now I have many friends who are from South America who I love. I think people should meet halfway,lol.

You guys need to get the frick over this. The politician is right. If you come to America you need to learn how to speak English. I used to work in a store when Spanish speaking people would come trying to use WIC cards, and couldn't understand us when we tried to tell them that some of the stuff they got wasn't covered by it. If you want to live here don't expect us to change and conform to who you are. Schwarzenegger said the same thing. He moved here and learned English. Take a cue from him.

If a drivers test is given in 12 languages, then how are they going to be able to read cautionary signs? Would we have to start putting up "Slow" signs up in 12 languages? If one could not interpret and comprehend certain cautionary signs, would that put people in danger? What do you think?
