Getting married. Season 2's "The Attempted Marriage" is a flashback to Rob and Laura's multiple attempts to tie the knot while Rob was in the Army. They were finally married in the base hospital, after Rob was admitted with a severe upper respiratory infection, bronchitis, and ear infection. That's why he and Laura were wearing surgical masks for their first married kiss; Rob was highly contagious, so everyone present for the wedding wore a mask, including the chaplain.
The show's only Christmas episode, season 3's "The Alan Brady Show Presents" (originally aired December 1963). Rob, Laura, Ritchie, Buddy, Sally, and Mel went in front of the cameras on The Alan Brady Show for Alan's Christmas show. (Alan Brady was the one dressed as Santa Claus.) For the grand finale of the episode, everyone gathered--Santa Alan and Ritchie in the sleigh, Mel, having changed into his regular suit and tie, and the others in their costumes from their last number--to sing the
3:24, where Mel is sitting in a desk chair while Rob, Laura, Sally and Buddy look at him is from the season 5 episode "Obnoxious, Offensive, Egomaniac, etc." Alan Brady accidentally read a script before Rob, Buddy and Sally could black out the insults, leading the trio, along with Laura and Mel, to try and steal it back. They were unsuccessful, but Mel informed the others that Alan would not fire any of them as he threatened because when they tried to take back the script, they thought Alan was
sleeping, and when they thought he was sleeping, Alan said, "Kiss me, Lillian." Mel informed the others that Alan's wife name is Margaret (and since much was made of the fact that Alan was married to Mel's sister, Mel should certainly know his own sister's name)! Sally asked if Mel would really blackmail his own brother-in-law, and that was why Mel nodded his head.
Season 2, "What's in a Middle Name?" It was a flashback to when Laura went to Rob's office to tell him she had just seen the doctor and "the rabbit died," meaning they were going to have a baby--Ritchie.
Do you have the episode where they flashback on Richie being born? I have a friend whose wife is pregnant and would love to show him the scene where she drops the alarm clock and Rob jumps out of bed with his suit under his pajamas. I would love to see that whole episode if you have it. Thanks!
