Hey firecharger I've never fasted before and I coul;d really use the benefit's at this point in my life. What kind of water did you drink? I've stayed away from tap water and purified bottled water for many reason's I drink distilled but what do you recommend? Thanks. God Bless.

I either drink bottled water or tap water purified through a PUR filter. Why is it that you don't drink those forms of water? Are you afraid of flouride and whatever other crap is hiding in there? If you REALLY believe the word of God....

@firecharger Well not afraid but just trying to be cautious in whatever part of my eating habit's I can because I eat a lot of junk, and that is one reason why I want to fast and I want to have faith again 2011 was a troubling year I lost sight of the gospel and now recently it hit me that it's time to get right, thanks for the reply at one point when I prayed before meal's I knew that it wouldn't hurt me but like I said recently I have less faith, but your stories have helped.

Pray for more faith and read your Bible. The bible says that faith comes by hearing the word of God. Romans 10:17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Fasting will break addictions to junk food and caffeine and energy drinks and all kinds of other stuff. But you have to abstain from going back to them after the addiction is broken. I had an addiction to Mountain Dew that I broke with fasting.

@firecharger I think the first time around, Jesus kept telling me about hunger and I was confused as to exactly what that meant. It led me off track and I knew before I accepted Jesus that I needed to be forgiven of my sin's but I never read the bible at that point I only knew what various verse's I read on the internet, heard on the radio, or youtube. This time I'm going to practice fast for 24 hrs then fast until I finished reading the bible and I'm currently on Exodus.

I'm curious about this. You are right about the 74 day water only fasting, supposedly we are only supposed to be able to go about 30 days without food. I'm just curious what you feel is allowed and not allowed as far as fasting goes in today's society.

What do you mean by "allowed?" Are you just asking how long a person could fast? 40 days is the max I would ever God unless I was clearly led by God to do otherwise. I've accomplished a 14 day fast and could've continued, but it does become intense especially if you're trying to work a job as well. Jesus fasted for 40 days but He was in the wilderness... Fasting makes you very weak at times, but the spiritual benefits are unequalled.

The guy that said that is a wise man.  Some of the reasons for fasting include breaking bondages/addictions, humbling ourselves before God, getting quiet before God so we can hear Him more clearly, etc.

How can we hear Him more clearly if we're pumping the world into our minds through the TV and Internet?

What I used to do, and it would be good if I got back to it, is to fast on the Sabbath day. This way even my stomach is getting to rest because it doesn't have to work to digest anything. It is just something to think about?

I fast from coffee as well. You should try to ween yourself off of caffeine a few days before starting. You'll still get caffeine withdrawal headaches, but that's part of the process. Sometimes I'll take ibuprofen if the headache is bad enough.

Anyway, the whole point is to put your spiritual will above your flesh and make yourself weak and humble (no pride) before God.

@firecharger ...my son and I fasted in 2009 for a relative who was 94. He was on his deathbed, not expected to last the week, had pneumonia and hadnt eaten and could barely talk and couldn't move. Our prayer was that he would see his 95th birthday.

Well he got off that bed, went home and in January 2010 had the nicest 95th birthday

on a sunny day totally well, with everyone around and we filmed it all. He did pass away Dec 2010 and we hope he made heaven as we were praying.

I have tried fasting but could only manage it for 3 days. I have been trying to get rid of a smoking habit, it is very difficult. Do you think that you cannot have the Holy Spirit if you smoke? I know it is not good but how could you say that you will not have the Holy Spirit if you smoke. How about picking on people that eat twinkies and other poisonous food. I eat healthy....I just am having a hard time quitting smoking.

You can still be saved if you smoke, but it's a bondage from the enemy. satan wants to kill you even if it takes several years. We're all in a process of sanctification. When we get saved, we're not expected to stop sinning all of a sudden. Jesus gives us strength over time to overcome the sins that so easily beset us.

Next time you fast, ask the Lord to bind all the spirits associated with smoking and Praise the name of Jesus because He is the DELIVERER! (cont.)

Can you consistently fast 1 day a week on weekends? I believe that's a valid substitue for an extended fast. The humble attitude towards God is what counts more than our ability to just not eat.

I believe many of our sinful habits come in two's and three or more.

We may find we can eventually put down one of them only to hang onto the other and the other is usually the one that has a real hold on us. I looked at them as demons (which they are) that help each other and when i did that I realized that I had to deal with the worst of them. I just heard a girl talk about how powerful fasting is! Even my Mormon friend's family fasted! LOL This girl I first mentioned said the Lord told her to fast for 21 days (her first fast) and it was on fruit juice and milk...and at the end of her fast, her book was published that could not get published for YEARS. A good way to Fast without Detoxing too fast is to take in nutritious vegetable broths and/or freshly juiced veggies in a juicer. Just be sure to use dark green veggies if you are going to juice mainly carrots. They will help mitigate the heavy detox. Just don't eat solid food otherwise you are defeating the purpose of the fast. In fact...when i fasted last time..i even strained the juice with a micromesh screen after juicing the veggies. Be careful with fruits..they will detox you too quickly

Begin by cutting back on caffeine and such before you begin. Otherwise you will deal with more severe caffeine withdrawal headaches. Then just abstain from eating any food, but take in a lot of water and Bible study and prayer. Even if you don't have a specific need in mind, it's good to practice to get used to fasting. Begin with 24 hours or 48 if you've never done it...

Perry says that the Biblically correct way to fast is by water only. I have done it and it works. I fasted and prayed that my son would go with me to WI. to see a man of God so he could be saved. I believe fasting is a personal thing between our Father in heaven, and the person doing the fasting.While I know many people have strict views on the subject, a diabetic may have to sacrifice in a different way than someone else.The sacrifice will still be acceptable to God if someone can only fast half the day because of health reasons, or maybe the fasting person should take juice to prevent insulin shock.God knows our heart, and circumstances.God bless you all.

We are told to love our neighbor and love God and to keep His commandment. The book of Romans is pretty clear that no one can keep the law and no one is justified by the law. The law was only our "instructor" showing us what sin IS. So... to keep fasts on certain days and such seems to me to be attempting to follow the law. The Jews still practice fasts on feast days because they're trying to live by the law and the majority of them reject Jesus who brought them LIBERTY.

@firecharger That sounds like Jesus does not expect us to fast, but I could be reading too much into it. And the whole of the commandments in Matthew are not the same as "the curse of the law" that was compiled to enforce the commandments.

thanks for the video, brother, the timing is good. today is July 30, just a few days from the August 2 date when the US may default on its debt. it is a good time to add a few days of FASTING (all water) to my walk with the LORD. last Feb, i did my first fasting ever for 3 weeks and experienced powerful breakthroughs, healing, and spiritual connection with GOD as never before. I agree wholeheartedly with you! I have fasted in the past, for only a day, but it was an awesome experience. I would like to do it again, unfortunately, though it will have to wait. I am expecting in 3 weeks and then will breastfeed. After the first year, I can probably do the water-only fast to keep in milk. Thank you for the reminder!

@LeathermanFan2 it is not religion it si a relationship with the Lord Jesus and the creator.it is about a RELATIONSHIP. Denying the flesh is also a spiritual sacrifice and strengthening the spirit.

@TheLordIsAlmostHere -- You don't need to wait to be admonished by the Spirit to quit the chew. You can guess that God does not want you partaking in something potentially very cancer causing. I should know. I was chewing 'til last year & I was totally convicted to quit.

"Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body" (1 Cor. 6:19-20).

Do you know that it gives you cancer and it's addictive? Pretty hypothetical question, but if the answer is yes, that's your answer. God doesn't want you to be in bondage and willingly shortening your life because you're hooked on a product.

Though I gave up alcohol (thanks to the holy spirit) as I was born again, I continued smoking tobacco up until 9 days ago, I had 1 smoke last week, and couldn't finish it - I vomited after two puffs - So, thanks again to the holy spirit - I couldn't quit without it I wouldn't imagine. Previously, I was smoking 1-2 smokes a day down from around 15 smokes a day prior to my awakening (Jan '10)

Praise God for deliverance. Smoking is super addictive! I used to smoke 3 packs a day of Marlboro Reds when I was in Iraq (It was only SLIGHTLY stressful over there) but the Holy Spirit gave me the strength to quit "Cold Turkey"

@firecharger Whoa! That's some serious smoking there brother! However, the stressful situation you put yourself through I can imagine smoking was some kind of relief. I used to smoke the marlboro whites, then stoped smoking the pre made smokes and just bought tobacco and papers.

People need to understand what fasting is according to the Bible; it's no food and no water; that's it! G-d's way is very straight and narrow. G-d honors His Word, He doesn't honor man's false doctrines. I've heard people talk about "the Daniel fast" or "passing up on cheesecake, but eating chicken salad." That's not fasting. Fasting is "no food, no water." The "Daniel fast" is a HUGE false doctrine in the church!
