I hate to say it, but this song sounds like it was stolen from a 1980's slapstick comedy movie/locals news at 11 opening. Canadian Gold is way better then this...by far!
too many bridges. Every part of this song is an interlude which would normally explode into a huge chorus, but it breaks into another bridge. The difference between this and the winner, was that Hockey gold begins and builds and bridges into a powerful chorus.
the song is great and if you new the guy who wrote it you wouldnt be saying any of this Robert Fraser Burke is a fabulous person with a bunch of talent and he deserved to win just as much as Colin Oberst and im not being byist because i now i know him im telling the truth and no offence but i could never remember what Colins was i always had Roberts stuck in my head so shut up
Listen, .........I get it. You either helped write this silly tune (which explains the loss) or you're bitter because you're related to this kid. The point is, it just wasn't good enough to win. Not even close. All of Canada decided that, Chief.
Maybe you should ask if you can re-submit it someday to CBC when "Battle of the Blades" needs a new tune....
Look, do you know anything about music, because all you've said is Sticks to the ice isn't because i'm a cokehead and i wrote it. well i'm not, and i'm not related to the kid either. I found this on youtube to listen over the current hockey night in canada song. it trully has no colour to it. you say this song is to simplistic, but so was the original hockey night in canada song. to be honest i would be happy with stompin tom connor's good ol hockey game which he volunteered
Great work for a young kid, but this doesn't even TOUCH the Colin Oberst entry. Not even close. I feel like I should be at a circus rather than a hockey game.
This version was good, but like it was mentioned before, it was just too simplistic to carry on an entire theme.
Plus, very few will now admit, that the current theme for Hockey Night, hasn't gradually grown onto them. It definetly has for me. That said, even in losing, the 13 year old who made this theme, has a bright future should he pursue musical endeavors, after creating something like this almost effortlessly.
I agree. I wish CBC would have offered him something to use this as the opening for HNIC After Hours - this seems like the perfect song to recap a busy Saturday evening in the NHL - light enough for that point in the evening.
Good point. Even I think Canadian Gold and maybe a few others were better (hence i voted canadian gold), but i didnt suck completely and it was a great effort by a 13 year old.
take into consideration it was a 13 year old boy who had the guts to make a music piece and actually make it to the finals. that says something about his music. Frankly, it wasn't bad at all, maybe not as good as canadian gold to some people but at least he had the courage to try.
I'd really like to agree, and I certainly think it was a great effort for a 13 year-old. But it was not only not as good as Canadian Gold, but somehow managed to get ahead of several better pieces. I really think the only reason it made the finals was because Robert Fraser Burke was from Toronto.
I think this one is head and shoulders over the one they picked which sounds like the theme music for a show like "Dallas" or something like that there. No song will ever top the original which at least will still be heard on TSN
this is a good song all around, better then the one they picked for sure, but regardless of the song, NO song will ever replace the old one in my heart and the heart of canadians
My issue with this one is it's like 36 seconds of intro, then 5 seconds of theme, and then the closing notes. And with the other one, silly sounding bagpipes and all, I found myself humming it, whereas there isn't really a constant melody in this one.
I preferred this one over the winner because it sounded more like a hockey theme, and the fact a 13-year-old wrote it is even more impressive. As far as the old song goes, I'll miss it. CBC should have given Delores Claman whatever she wanted - she deserved it.
Millions of dollars paid to the woman, from a government run company, isn't really all that smart. Thats what this song would've cost CBC. Millions of dollars. As opposed to a hundred thousand, plus royalties for the current one. I know I wouldn't want to be taxed for a multi-million dollar original anthem (Where do you think they'd pay for it, other than forwarding costs to taxpayers?). Plus, if you watch hockey for an anthem, you need to rethink your love of the game.
I was definitely impressed with the outcome of the winner. I think the winner was better, but I definitely think that this was a close second, the only this missing was a bit of a more hyped up feel. I still love this song though.
Maybe next time when Ron McLean asks who your favorite team is you will say Toronto not Montreal. You should have won kid...you didn't but your team did!!
This one was way better than the other one. It should have won. I guess I like it more because it sounds similar to the Duh-DA-DA-Duh one. I was pissed they got rid of that one
its pretty good but when they played it on the radio, the show host Dj Hammer, played his version which was awesome and i had no words for it when i heard it. and guess what he didnt submit it :(
sounds SO similar to a star trek song I've heard before...he did well, but Canadian Gold SHOULD win if the voters base it on quality and not on how "cute" he is....

Btw this song sounds a bit star trekky near the end.

I know Robert, I live across the street from his school.
I don't go to Cosburn but my brother did, and he said Robert was the best pianist in the school.
I think he could've won, but he said his favorite team was Montreal Canadiens when he should've said Toronto Maple Leafs.
