  • Btw this song sounds a bit star trekky near the end.

  • How this song didn't win is beyond me. This was the best submission by FAR.

  • Wey te go kid, ur #1 in my bookz!!!!

  • Robert goes to my school, he's a fucking champ

  • I hate to say it, but this song sounds like it was stolen from a 1980's slapstick comedy movie/locals news at 11 opening. Canadian Gold is way better then this...by far!

  • too many bridges. Every part of this song is an interlude which would normally explode into a huge chorus, but it breaks into another bridge. The difference between this and the winner, was that Hockey gold begins and builds and bridges into a powerful chorus.

This anthem just lacked a chorus..

  • this song doesn't seem "big" enough for hockey night in canada like canadian gold

  • the song is great and if you new the guy who wrote it you wouldnt be saying any of this Robert Fraser Burke is a fabulous person with a bunch of talent and he deserved to win just as much as Colin Oberst and im not being byist because i now i know him im telling the truth and no offence but i could never remember what Colins was i always had Roberts stuck in my head so shut up

  • This song sucks ass. No way as good as the winner.

  • Huh? What the hell are you snorting?

Listen, .........I get it. You either helped write this silly tune (which explains the loss) or you're bitter because you're related to this kid. The point is, it just wasn't good enough to win. Not even close. All of Canada decided that, Chief.

Maybe you should ask if you can re-submit it someday to CBC when "Battle of the Blades" needs a new tune....

    zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz..

  • Look, do you know anything about music, because all you've said is Sticks to the ice isn't because i'm a cokehead and i wrote it. well i'm not, and i'm not related to the kid either. I found this on youtube to listen over the current hockey night in canada song. it trully has no colour to it. you say this song is to simplistic, but so was the original hockey night in canada song. to be honest i would be happy with stompin tom connor's good ol hockey game which he volunteered

  • Superb job!

  • my teacher wonnnnnnnnnn colin oberst after that i hugged him for a long time

  • Great work for a young kid, but this doesn't even TOUCH the Colin Oberst entry. Not even close. I feel like I should be at a circus rather than a hockey game.

  • i feel like your an idiot

  • This version was good, but like it was mentioned before, it was just too simplistic to carry on an entire theme.

Plus, very few will now admit, that the current theme for Hockey Night, hasn't gradually grown onto them. It definetly has for me. That said, even in losing, the 13 year old who made this theme, has a bright future should he pursue musical endeavors, after creating something like this almost effortlessly.

  • I know Robert, I live across the street from his school.

I don't go to Cosburn but my brother did, and he said Robert was the best pianist in the school.

I think he could've won, but he said his favorite team was Montreal Canadiens when he should've said Toronto Maple Leafs.

  • that is really good effort for a 13 year old u have to admit making it to the finals really.

  • I agree. I wish CBC would have offered him something to use this as the opening for HNIC After Hours - this seems like the perfect song to recap a busy Saturday evening in the NHL - light enough for that point in the evening.

  • i know hey

  • the intro to this song is amazing but my god the rest is shit

  • its great just little to light for me.

  • Good point. Even I think Canadian Gold and maybe a few others were better (hence i voted canadian gold), but i didnt suck completely and it was a great effort by a 13 year old.

  • take into consideration it was a 13 year old boy who had the guts to make a music piece and actually make it to the finals. that says something about his music. Frankly, it wasn't bad at all, maybe not as good as canadian gold to some people but at least he had the courage to try.

  • I'd really like to agree, and I certainly think it was a great effort for a 13 year-old. But it was not only not as good as Canadian Gold, but somehow managed to get ahead of several better pieces. I really think the only reason it made the finals was because Robert Fraser Burke was from Toronto.

  • this one sucks

  • yep

  • canadian gold rules

  • I think this one is head and shoulders over the one they picked which sounds like the theme music for a show like "Dallas" or something like that there. No song will ever top the original which at least will still be heard on TSN

  • how is this one better if it didnt win?

Its based on votes across canada so the other one won because the majority liked it.

  • this song is too soft to be the theme song

  • your too soft to be the theme song,

  • this song has epic writtin all over it my god why this wasnt picked i dont know me and bro voted for it... lol

  • OMg this is 100% better then the celtic garbage they got noww IMO

  • this is a good song all around, better then the one they picked for sure, but regardless of the song, NO song will ever replace the old one in my heart and the heart of canadians

  • I like this theme better than the one they picked!!!

  • i must say i like canadian gold better, but i think i like the intro a little better.

The original will always be THE BEST though!

  • this is 10000000000000000000 times better than canadian gold

  • lol this guy is my friend hes 13 his mom teaches at my school so i know him

  • Sounds like the intro to the 5 oclock news.

  • My issue with this one is it's like 36 seconds of intro, then 5 seconds of theme, and then the closing notes. And with the other one, silly sounding bagpipes and all, I found myself humming it, whereas there isn't really a constant melody in this one.

  • parts of this are just a rip off of the original...

  • thats a good thing, the original is the best, i want as much of it as i could get

  • i like this song better, good on you lil man!

  • I preferred this one over the winner because it sounded more like a hockey theme, and the fact a 13-year-old wrote it is even more impressive. As far as the old song goes, I'll miss it. CBC should have given Delores Claman whatever she wanted - she deserved it.

  • Millions of dollars paid to the woman, from a government run company, isn't really all that smart. Thats what this song would've cost CBC. Millions of dollars. As opposed to a hundred thousand, plus royalties for the current one. I know I wouldn't want to be taxed for a multi-million dollar original anthem (Where do you think they'd pay for it, other than forwarding costs to taxpayers?). Plus, if you watch hockey for an anthem, you need to rethink your love of the game.

  • i mis the old the song it will be 40 years now on cbc

  • a 13 year old boy composed this... give him some credits instead of critisizing him...

  • The original HNIC song was best. The CBC (Communist Broadcasting Corporation) can go choke on their new stinking song. I'll be watching TSN instead.

  • I was definitely impressed with the outcome of the winner. I think the winner was better, but I definitely think that this was a close second, the only this missing was a bit of a more hyped up feel. I still love this song though.

  • this should have won by a long shot

  • Lmao...

The winner's song was definitely better than this...

  • Maybe next time when Ron McLean asks who your favorite team is you will say Toronto not Montreal. You should have won kid...you didn't but your team did!!

  • Yeah, 15 times better than the winner.

Still crap compared to the original.

  • the winner's is catchier, but this is similar to the original which is probably better

  • THIS WAS OBVIOUSLY 10000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000x BETTER THAN THE OTHER ONE

    OMG

SOOOOO UPSET THAT IT DIDN'T WIN

BUT HEYYYY GREAT JOB ROBERT <3

    you make us proud!

  • This was defintely better than the winning song. The kid deserved the win. Congrats on runner up though!

  • This one was way better than the other one. It should have won. I guess I like it more because it sounds similar to the Duh-DA-DA-Duh one. I was pissed they got rid of that one

  • this one was alot better than the winner

  • this one was better!!...

  • Way better than the winner....congrats!

  • I like your song better than the winning one, well done!

  • dude no offence to the kid who made this but the other one is way better.

  • i just want to say congrats on making it this far kid

  • Does anyone else notice how right near the end of the song it sounds almost exactly like Star Trek?

    right at 0:36 it starts.

alright, not exactly, but you can see similarities.

  • This is truly the best song out of all of them! you especially know because he's in the final two!!!!! Go Robert!!!!=)

  • its pretty good but when they played it on the radio, the show host Dj Hammer, played his version which was awesome and i had no words for it when i heard it. and guess what he didnt submit it :(

  • the only good part is the big piano chord he stole from the beatles

  • canadian gold is a better song it is more up to date with todays NHL because its enegizing and fresh

  • sounds SO similar to a star trek song I've heard before...he did well, but Canadian Gold SHOULD win if the voters base it on quality and not on how "cute" he is....

  • sounds like a cheap take of the old theme. Not the same tune, but style. The NHL is becoming more exciting, new players, jerseys, rules, it's faster. The new theme should be a good song thats makes you excited about the game you are about to watch. This song isn't great.

  • I like Canadian Gold better too.

But the kid should extra credit in his music class.

  • yeah, hopefully it doesn't win, but cutos for a good effort to a 13-year-old kid...

  • I've voted for Canadian Gold too -- but I agree, this kid is brilliant and shouldn't have too much trouble getting work in the music industry.

  • i like canadian gold better

  • i don't agree robert i like the original better, it's pretty crazy.

  • at the end of the day, HNIC is going to have a solid theme song, both this and Canadian Gold are great

  • that shoudl win

  • a bit better then the orginal song.
