Everything you mentioned is a convenience factor, convenience doesn't make a better picture, skill makes a better picture. No one ever said learning to photograph was easy, it takes time and skill. Only the unskilled have to worry about whether his pictures came out, skilled photographers never need to change speed of film, you adjust your apeture and shutting speed to compensate. Film speed only matters in low light , if you have no flash. But again all this comes with skill.
This is a good tutorial, the art of photography is dying with digital, no one knows the basics anymore and rely too heavily on the automatic features of the camera, instead of the skill of the photographer. If you have to photoshop all your pictures, then you are not a photographer. My camera is 100% manual 35mm and my pictures come out better than the most expensive digital camera. It's the skill of the photographer that makes the shot, not the camer, and I don't have to photoshop!
Digital makes it easier for people to learn how to shoot well. No more changing film halfway through a roll because you need a different speed. No more finding out hours or days later whether what you were trying worked. You get real time results that allow you to improve your skills, and you don't have to waste money on developing film or wasting shots to get a different ISO.
I see digital as democratizing photography the same way the printing press democratized writing.
Every photographer should play with film. It will help you with composition, skill, style...ect. Plus you'll learn more about your digital camera because all the new features on our cameras were based on problems related to film.
that's why the info says...."A basic guide showing the principles of flash photography"....learning never hurts...in fact even in this day of digital photography...going back to the basics is still more helpful than just relying everything in ur camera's so called error proof electronic features.
ettl stands for ' electronic through the lens'. esentially it is a combination of algoritems wich you camera light meter and (external)flash uses to lighten your photo up with the correct exposure
type 370157830255 in the ebay search box for the new, revolutionary, compact, cutting edge 9 in 1 youtube camcorder. a must own for all youtubers! it has many bids on it already. dont let it get away. take a look at my profile and video presentation about this amazing technological revolution. come take a look, you'll be glad you did!
But I undoubtedly HAVE eyes and hands that can undoubtedly SEE and figure out how to use flash techniques by themselves with some initial practice.
YOU have to be blind or so, not to notice where light goes, where it bounces and where it comes back BY YOURSELF in order to be in a need of some additional help like "youtube", or other similar sources (i'm not talkin about human help - advice)
long or short exposures means that the shutter stay open for long or shorts periods of time accordingly to the aperture chosen to achieve a correct exposure
Yes, this vid is undoubtedly useful. I used to take pictures with a manual flash as well. Nowadays I really appreciate my Nikon D70 (has a sync time up to 1/500 sec.) with TTL metering speed light unit. It is the best combination for "weekend warriors" ;)

This comment has received too many negative votes show
How retarded does a person, "photographer, or beginner" have to be - to not realize all these things by him/herself?

YOU undoubtedly were born with this knowledge.

what exactly "longer or shorter exposer" mean?
can somebody explain?
acapmex1 3 years ago
long or short exposures means that the shutter stay open for long or shorts periods of time accordingly to the aperture chosen to achieve a correct exposure
fetthunderdome 3 years ago
It's the length of time that light is let in through the lens and is regulated by the shutter speed, not aperture.
