@itsshellyful On my iPhone 3G I have an app called Free Memory from Recession apps. (I got it 2 years ago, but cant find it when I search for it anymore. You might want to try their "Memory Free" app. maybe its the same but upgraded, I dont know ;) ) When I open it, It shows the amount of free memory available in MB(and battery %), and it automatically kills BG programs until the amount of free memory reaches 40-50 MB (the max amount it can free up without causing a crash or reboot). Invaluable!
