Wow...when i see this video i can imagine how happy we will be when Jesus comes! We will see our loved ones that have passed away,, family, friends...and we will be together to praise God every day in heaven! I can't wait!
1 Thessalonians 4: 13 - 18 incorporates the 1st two lines FIRST, then Revelation 20 later. That's 2 separate times. Please see the trees AND the forest.
I absolutely love this song! I believe this has to be my favorite by David and the Vocal Band. David has an astounding voice anyway, I've never heard anyone sing like him, I've seen them several times in concert, not as many as I would like b/c they don't come to my close to where I live that often but I go every time they do come. I always get chill bumps when I hear David sing live and still do a lot when I listen to cds and watch videos. Thumbs up David and the Vocal Band.
There is no misinterpretations allowed of God's Word. "Oceans give up all the dead" is only found in one place in scripture and it is reference to the second death, NOT the resurrection of saints. I still believe this song is a wonderful song, just not the first two lines. I will be singing this song soon and have changed the 1st two lines to: "A great multitude of endless believers, the saints who have gone before gather there" Then the rest is the same. That's more accurate of what John saw.
I listen to this song almost everyday. Everytime I listen to it something special happens to my soul. I know that God has brought me through much sorrow and tribulation. This song reassures me that I can be victorious with God. It gives me hope everyday no matter what life brings my way. Of course it is even more special because I am David's # 1 fan. God bless you David Phelps for what you allow God to do through your ministry.
first two lines are not biblically correct. "the oceans give up all the dead that are in them" refere to those of the 2nd resurrection, those who now face judgment and are sent to the lake of fire; see Revelations where this song is taken. They are not those before the throne room of God. The phrase, "graves set captives free" can not mean us because once we die, we are present with the Lord and because we are in Christ, we are not captives. So I will have to change the first two lines.
@arria1911ca and @katidzo, please read 1 Thessalonians 4, in particular verses 15-17 where the word of God clearly states that when Jesus returns the dead in Christ will rise first (oceans giving up the dead, those 'confined' by the grave set free) then we who are alive and remain (those who are roaming the earth) will be caught up together with them to meet the Lord in the air. Though paraphrased, the first two lines are the plain, gospel truth. Be blessed in your study of the Word.
@katidzo you are the one who is wrong, I think. I know the first two lines are related to what is found in bible but there is not support that they were directly taken from the bible. "The oceans give up all the dead that are in them" can also refer to the ones in the first resurrection. Let's say those who died in oceans. Once we die "it does not mean we are in heaven or hell". There is no biblical support that says that one goes to heaven or hell after death. We go to grave.
Hi , actually I think Gaither got this one 100% right . It's a common false teaching and misperception that when we die we immediately go to heaven. When we die we return to dust, return to the earn. We are not a spirit, but God takes back his spirit ( meaning his breath, his air) and we cease to exist and all thoughts end. We sleep in the grave and are forgotten, but God remembers us. Remember when Lazarus died? Jesus allow him to remain dead for a few days till he smelled..
@katidzo Jesus waited so long to prove to all that Lazarus was truly dead and that once you are dead only the power of Jesus can resurrect you. Now if we assume that Lazarus was in heaven all this time and having the time of his life, don't you think he would have been a little upset with Jesus calling him from immortality back to return to earth and life here to live in his old body again? Talk about a let down! Almost like having your birthday cake and presents stolen.
@katidzo Jesus wouldn't do that to us. God had taken back that breath of life which ran Lazarus and Lazarus the man was dead. Kind of like a car or appliance that dies. Jesus though being God was able to turn that battery over again and fix Lazarus , bringing him back to life. Man's idea that we go one at a time is not as good as God's plan. God clearly shows us in his word that when Jesus returns again in the clouds as King of Kings the dead saints will be resurrected and taken up..
@katidzo into the clouds along with the living saints. And all will be changed in teh twinkling of an eye, cause flesh cant enter heaven and man can't even survive in space in his current state. Our form will be changed so that we can enter heaven. From there it will be one giant homecoming of all God's saints. Everyone will experience it all at the same time. Your friend who died in Christ will be there with your Grandmother, Peter and Paul will be there, Mary, you, your spouse!
@katidzo It happens all at the same time with Jesus there to greet everyone. Now isn't God's truth so much better than man's untruth???? God is planning a giant family reunion. If we all went one at a time, the people already there would be used to heaven, plus how could they enjoy it seeing loved ones on earth still suffering? So while those graves may hold captives for a time, Jesus has won and holds the keys to death. The grave will have to release Jesus' saints when he returns.
@donjojo2000 So, because I disagree with a biblical interpretation, that means "I'm lost" as you so bluntly put it? To speak that way of one whom Christ died for and saved is a very dangerous thing.
@katidzo really? i thought when we die we are kinda like sleeping until Jesus comes doesnt Ecclesiastes 9:5 say that the dead know nothing? If ppl went to heaven right after they diedwouldnt they know it? Why does that verse say that the dead know nothing? isnt that why 1 Thessalonians 4:16,17 talks abt how when Jesus comes the dead in Christ shall rise first and then those who are alive in Christ will rise to meet them in the air? Maybe this is the verse that they are referring to in the song.
