@EliminateTheHQ "go look up old famous rugby players which i cant name one because rugby is the stupidest most unwatched sport in the world " how fucking old are you? 13?
@lankyj91 I know rugby is a tough sport. They wear padding and helmets too. But I assure you that if one of them got poked in the eye and a doctor told them that if it happens again they might lose vision, they'd wear protection for their eyes too. Kareem is one of very few who have had to do that. Look at every NBA player today and none of them have them. NBA players play with broken feet, torn hand tendons, and others just as rugby players play with injuries. All sports do at that level...
@goten1214 Firstly rugby players do not play with helmets. Darren lockyer. A rugby league legend in Australia, played with a broken eye socket before and after surgery. He risked blindness, but continued to play.
@lankyj91 When a doctor tells you that the next poke in your eye might lead to blindness, I'm pretty sure every rugby player would wear goggles too. Horace Grant wore them too, same with Amare Stoudamire. Amare had a very serious eye injury while in Phoenix.
Jrylaarsdam, this is a great video. My boyfriend was trying to explain Kareem's sky hook to me. Your clip shows it all. Great editing. Thanks so much for your efforts.
Look at Moses Malone's arms at 1:39 and look at Dwight Howard now, it's night in day in the way today's athletes are stronger and more conditioned. Howard would probably avg 20+ rebounds against those guys.
@marshallrayhunt Wilt at the end of his career could block Kareem's skyhook but not always , remeber Wilt played only one game against Kareem after which he injured his knee and could never jump high as he did before that , nor he was mobile as he was .
@marshallrayhunt Yes he missed that one, but he also blocked the shot on many other occasions, and was probably the only center to block that shot on multiple occasions during a game. Still, kareem's hook was one of the most magnificent offensive weapons in the history of basketball.
if javale mcgee can develop this he will be beast. has almost the same length and body like kareem. the most unstoppable move in nba history.. the sky hook
His battles with great centers like Moses Malone and Robert Parish, Artis Gilmore at 1:25, and Wilt Chamberlain 2:20 in the first few years of his career. I doubt anybody can beat his all time scoring record. Maybe Karl Malone would have if he didn't get injured and played a 2nd season with the Lakers,
I play bball. The hook shot LOOKS super easy, but to get it "nuthin' but net" style like that is super hard. It takes some great hand-to-eye coordination. Granted, he was paid millions to do it (and he did), so there was certainly a routine, as is displayed here. lol
"The dunk was banned in college basketball after the 1967 season, primarily because of Alcindor's dominant use of the shot. It was not allowed again until 1976"............a rule of the game have change for a dominant player.. a ground to be considered as the greatest player of all time =)
This is so damn unfair lol...once the ball leaves his hand its on its way down so you're not even allowed to block it...you would have to block it while its still in his hand and good luck with that shit smh....If I was a center, this would be the move I practice every day of my life
hahhahah Their was this Black guy in 1997 he used to play basketball, he was skinny about 6,2 tall!, I swear to god! I think i Was around like 12, and he was 20, he used to do that hook shot against all these biggest basketball players! he was like kareem! flawless, he always made it in hahaha
You know if any center in the nba in this day and age good shoot this hook itd be sick like imagine dwight howard just learning how to do the sky hook itd be crazy idk why and nba players dont shoot this shot its so dominate
@SashaNein /watch?v=IYq4CWeWaKg&feature=related This shot is truly unblockable UNLESS you happen to be Wilt Chamberlain lol. In one of the early 70's (I think '72) LA vs Bucks playoff series Chamberlain blocked 23 skyhooks total, and something crazy like 7 or 8 in just one game. And that is 25 year old Jabbar vs 35 year old Chamberlain! This video is meant to make Jabbar look unblockable, of course they'll show Chamberlain miss the block lol, but in reality he COULD and DID block the skyhook!
@blabliblublablo Don't be calling out Mighty Moses like that. Yeah that was pretty piss poor but it could of been he was in foul trouble not like 6'10 Malone was going to block 7'2 Kareem. Still Kareem's Skyhook was hard to stop and hell of difficult to block. Had to time it just right and have some ups. Kareem was a deadeye shooting a career 56 pct from the field and unlike Shaq, Kareem's skyhook was effective up to 18 ft. Lost art and the best offensive weapon the NBA has seen so far (38,387)
Yup it was blocked but i forgot if it was bill russell who did it twice. It probably took a hi level of elevation or high jump to make it possible, or you can block it from behind or before it reaches high. But once it reaches high it's really very difficult to block.
The thing is the opponents knew the sky hook was coming and still they could do nothing about it. This probably was the most unstoppable shot in NBA history. Has anyone ever blocked it?
is it just me or does he practically get all his lift on the shot just from the flick of his wrist because it seems to me he fully straightens his elbow and then there is a pause before he releases, not in motion like a normal jumper. is this how i should practice my hook or what?....
look how close OLD wilt is to getting it...and theirs video of him blocking it twice ina row...prime chamberlain in my opinion is the ONLY player besides russell who could have stopped it...wilt the only one with proof :P
@gongxia649 he only puts the ball on the floor one dribble. in order to double team him you'd have to run a zone. back then you couldn't zone up. other big men get doubled because they don't make their move fast enough.
@FlySociety06 easy, just divide the whole act into 10 frames (jabbar uses only one moveset on this, very predictable) and by the second or third frame just slide toward the left because that's where his pivot will be, stretch the arm 45 degrees and not 90 degrees and that will stop or block it halfway. foolish defenders try to reach it from the sky...only wilt chamberlain managed to block it twice consecutively, and jordan once blocked it up there.
@corkystorky yes u are right,it's so easy to block it that almost none did it!u are also right that all those HOF(wilt,moses,hakeem,cowens,thurmond,reed,unseld,parish,ewing,gilmore....) that could n't stop it are so stupid and u are so smart!come on,trying to stop jabbar was almost as hard as stop mj,bird,wilt....it was almost impossible!
:40 if you can get it over a 7ft7 guy with an 8 foot 6 inch wingspan (and is the all time nba leader in blocked shots per minute played) you can get it over anyone!
6 titles..6 mvps.. at least 3 Finals mvps...the SkyHook.. alltime leading scorer....VERY UNDERRATED when discussing the the greatest all time player....in my eyes hes No. 2 behind Jordan, all day... Russell is overrated.. when u play in an era when thers like 15 teams and Red Aurbach monopolizes all the talent.. of course ur gonna win all the titles...
wilt chamberlain blocked 20 shots in two consecutive games against the bucks in the 72 playoffs,11 of those against kareem (wilt was 35 years old at the time)
I actually already use the hook shot in games but I only get it 40-50% of the time and I feel like i'd better pass the ball cuz the rebound is unlikely.
So the question is can i get it to 60-70% with 1 hour practice a week?
Every monday I have a game. But dont have time to train except 1 hour on saturday.
Do you guys think it would make sense to practice this shot? I play center position. I mean just 1 hour practice a weak? Or do I better stick with layups and dribbling for this short practice time.
Can I get sufficiantly good with this shot? I never shoot outside the paint cuz I heard you need almost every day practice to be really efficient with it.
@egr9613 what makes robert parish look stupid is that hey how many times it happened and he made no adjustments? come on, during practice he could have told mchale hey dude do the sky hook and let's figure out how to stop it. all that parish did here is raise his arm and blam that stupid d-up is useless against the sky hook. footwork is the key, he must slide towards the pivot direction of jabbar and steal the ball.
He was and still is a winner. Some guys just know how to win. He is one of them.He could have started on any NBA team. Kraeem, Magic, Bird, Jordan, Wilt. are my starters. Russell,Kobe,Dr.J,Dirk,Jerry West is my bench. Ill take on any team in history.

Russell is overrated.. when u play in an era when thers like 15 teams and Red Aurbach monopolizes all the talent.. of course ur gonna win all the titles...

The most dominating shot of all-time.

@the99drill
It is not true. Kareem used the left hand as well, but he shot then closer to the basket.

I actually already use the hook shot in games but I only get it 40-50% of the time and I feel like i'd better pass the ball cuz the rebound is unlikely.
So the question is can i get it to 60-70% with 1 hour practice a week?
KrutoyPostowoy 9 months ago
@KrutoyPostowoy
No. You need to work at least one hour a day, probably more, to do that.
Kareem's Skyhook was more than just a hook shot. He used his entire body in the Skyhook

Thanks.

Robert Parish has got to hate this video. How many times did that shot go over him just in these highlights?
egr9613 10 months ago 22
@egr9613 Well, we got one disliker in this video, guess who LOL
theorientalpearl 8 months ago
@egr9613 as great of a player and guy that parish was in the league you got that right... nobody can defend that shot
GotAnEyedea 8 months ago
@egr9613 what makes robert parish look stupid is that hey how many times it happened and he made no adjustments? come on, during practice he could have told mchale hey dude do the sky hook and let's figure out how to stop it. all that parish did here is raise his arm and blam that stupid d-up is useless against the sky hook. footwork is the key, he must slide towards the pivot direction of jabbar and steal the ball.
corkystorky 6 months ago
the sky hook is a beast of a shot invented by a beast of a player.
TheDarkRaged 10 months ago 25
@TheDarkRaged It wasn't invented by him he just improved it George Mikan a former Laker made the shot look hi mup but he is very old too
