Just plain false advertising. Brainwashing people to think that Mac doesn't have any problems. Guess what, apple products have more issues than HP and Samsung.
@kosmos9907 Yeah, because you're an idiot. I don't even use virus protection half the time and I haven't had a virus in the 6 years since I've owned my first PC from my first year at university. It's really easy to get a virus if you're stupid enough. You should buy a Mac.
I don't see why people think that Vista is the only bad OS. XP had the EXACT same issues when it first released. But just like XP, Vista updated it's service packs and became usable. XP just became more usable than Vista XD Windows 7 is what Vista was supposed to be, however Vista is Windows 7's Beta. Microsoft sold you a beta OS.
"No, I want a computer that contains up-to-date hardware at an affordable price."
"That's a Mac"
"Are you sure? I thought that Macs offered the same hardware as PCs do, but at twice the price and have no way to update to new technology once the old stuff becomes obsolete."
"No! You can't believe everything you hear!"
"I'll think about it..."
"LOOK LADY! IT'S SHINY AND COOL! WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT?"
I don't like Linux because of that i don't use servers and stuff like that so much(except for gaming), I don't like Mac because of that I play games more than I draw, record and etc. and I like PC for all the games!
Don't Macs not get viruses because most of the world relies on Windows? Why would someone aim for something small and insignificant like a Mac for a virus?
And what bugs? I have Windows 7, runs fine. Had XP before, ran fine as well (up until I assaulted the hard drive).
And how is a Mac simpler to use? I don't get it. I never get it, people say it a lot, but I don't get why.
@taxi911 I agree Windows 7 is very, very good. Vista was a disaster, but they fixed it up with 7. To answer your last question, Mac is simpler. Example. I want to connect to wi-fi from a Mac. All I do is go to the System Preferences icon, clearly labelled with the name and also gears. Under Internet and Wireless, I go to Network. It automatically shows me all the networks, and has an assistant to guide me. On Vista, you have to go through 4 different tabs which overlap and I've run out of space.
@taxi911 (continued). On Vista you got to the network connections, but once in there you have 4 or more different tabs which are difficult to understand, there is no assistant, and it isn't clearly labelled. That is an example, so please don't respond with a solution to this. To someone tech-savvy, this really isn't a factor. But an OS being user friendly is a huge thing to a ton of users.
So, you're going to keep beating up a dead horse? Windows is bad because of 1 OS mishap? Why are you using Vista as an example? What about XP & 7?
And so far, I can see 3 different ways (on XP & 7) to directly get to the SAME Network options. One through My Computer, one through Control Panel, and one through the icon in the system tray (This did not even require being tech-savvy). About a click or 2 away in each of those. Bad example, give me another one.
@taxi911 Okay you obviously didn't read my first comment, and it sounds like you didn't read my second either. I said don't respond with a solution, because it was just an example. I don't have a Windows on hand with me, so I can't directly compare in COMPLETE detail. And if you read my first post, you would see I agreed Windows 7 is good. Very good in fact. Please, think before posting. I'm not anti-PC. I'm just pro Mac, but I think 7 is also a good choice.
I'm not giving you a solution, I'm just saying they're VERY easy to find - and I can't prove that without giving a reason why it's easy. It's not the challenge you've made it out to be. And what's wrong with a solution anyway? It's not a bad thing. Just goes to show the stupidity of Mac users who blindly jump over board. And I read your 1st post, but why'd you use Vista as a prime example? You could've used XP or 7 but you picked the worse to make an example. Unfair.
@taxi911 Why would I use 7 as an example when I think its a good OS. That was in my first post. Didn't you read that? And also I can't give you the exact steps in complete detail because I don't have a PC right on hand. I don't mind a solution i just didn't want you to waste your time since it was just a quick example problem, not one that has actually been challenging me. Vista is the best example of PC's failure, so why wouldn't i use it? Windows has redeemed itself with 7 though, understand?
@batmannotahero We switched to 7 at work about 6 months ago. Windows HAS NOT redeemed itself with 7. My computer still crashes on a daily basis, still freezes regularly and still gives me error messages like it did before.
It makes NO SENSE to buy anything but a Mac. The last newspaper I worked used Macs. That newspaper had ONE tech to fix problems -- for all 6 locations throughout the Valley. At the newspaper I work at now, they have Dell computers and have 5 techs for our ONE office.

@Trusselz £2600? Where the heck are you getting your prices? I checked just now and it says on the apple website: quad core 27-Inch $1,999 American which is about £1,281.75. Who'd want to buy a used computer? usually for spare parts which apple doesn't sell on their own, therefore increasing the value of the Mac.
@harnoors93 umm not if you know what your doing and if your retarded get a mac plus viruses dont cost money they do if you dont know how to deal with them
@harnoors93 Its called updating Windows, Firefox with Adblock Plus, and Avast. All free software. You can go out of you way to get infected, i guarantee every threat you can find will just bounce off. I use Norton 2011, i can go and download viruses, and Norton kills it before the download even starts. As long as you're not retarded, a PC will not get a virus.
You Mad Bro? Butt hurt about me saying ubuntu isn't as secure and has holes? And No OS X isn't UNIX Based Its a Full UNIX. Wiki it Ignorant fool. And yes it could work theriteicly Because Safari allows access to the Disk/Partition its on. Could of easily used another vulnerability in Windows. No they didn't use the current Version Of OS X, Snow Leopard came out in 2009. Not Late 2008 Genius, Also this hack didn't work in leopard so whats only left is Tiger 10.4. A UNIX-Based Version.
That was with Mac OS X 10.4 which wasn't full UNIX. And if you looked at the video instead of going HURR DURR MAC GOT HACKED FIRST LOLOLOLOl. You would see it was a hole apple already knew about and was already working on a patch. Also it was through safari, the web browser not the OS itself making windows users be able to get this loop as well. Fail, Also you might want to look at the linux kernel exploits, Ubuntu screen saver loop hole as well. Because your OS is at risk as well!
Macs Are 100% UNIX systems. Check Wikipedia on Mac OS X if you do not believe me. And because of that, this means OS X has everything a UNIX system would have. Including the full security, I'm sorry your wrong and spreading FUD.
everyone who gloats about macs, honestly, are not very smart. The reason there are no viruses for mac is because they are not that popular. Wish the masses would start using them so people would realize they are not as amazing as they try to make them out to be.
@uuu64 What happens when you have tech issues? How are you going to get apps for the iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch? What about when you buy a printer, scanner, or any other device that requires certain drivers? You're gonna devote hours of searching to find the solution. TIme = money.
Seems that's more of a problem with Apple products rather then Linux. Simplest answer is, sell things that dont work. Get things that works ^_^ Sure, there may be driver missing for Linux and a some Windows-programs may not run in Wine. But once up and running the problems fizzles out. No more Windows viruses. No more Windows costs. No more Windows slowing down over time. All i'm saying is, Linux costs 0$, for most people, it's a price-range worth a try.
@uuu64 I have nothing against Linux... well most versions at least. But since I use Linux from time to time I see the features that are missing from my workflow. Linux is nice but has it's shortcomings like any other OS. The one thing I point out is that Linux isn't ready for the masses. If you put your neighbor on a Linux box they would bug the shit outta you with questions for weeks and even later they'll have new questions.
If there's missing features in Linux that are impossible to replace then Windows and Mac is worth a try, for sure. Open minded neighbors would find same amount of problems as in Windows. "Linux not ready for the masses" Well, neither is Windows really. Yet it somehow works good enough for many. Had everyone tried both Linux and Windows then ~half the world would be running Linux.
@dragngt Pfft, Ubuntu is one of the most user friendly OSs out there... if you don't want to handle it in a complex way you don't have to, its simple, and most applications have open source equivalents. And most hardware has drivers, just buy hardware that is compatible, its available and no more expensive...
@dragngt What the fuck? What about people who DON'T buy shitty Apple products like iPod? You assume erveryone buys Apple mobile devices? You are deluded.
I triple boot Windows 7, Ubuntu and Hackintosh all on my 1600 dollar PC. I run Hackintosh faster than any Mac. There is no argument. PC wins.
@dragngt Features missing from linux are more unlikely, not like in os x. You'll have a wider range of products for your Linux platform and btw, have you ever seen OS X in a corporate environment?
True. The problem is that pirate Antiviruses with working updates are impossible to find. At best there's legal 0$ nagware adware like Avira and AVG etc. Paying for software has never been an option for me, not worth the costs over time.
@drabomb are you saying that apple writes all of the programs for osx? stop being ignorant. also, a program CAN cause ANY operating system to crash. how old are you, 10?
I like Pc more. Why? Ever looked at upgrade parts for mac? And when you did, did you then realize you can have up to 3 pc's for the same price? Nuff said
@drabomb Like I said before. I understand what I'm trying to convey but I've got better crap to do than argue. It would also require me to write more than 500 characters in one of these boxes. Maybe I'll do something at a later date.
But I still prefer the Mac OS over what I've used in the Linux or Windows areas. The argument about the Unix kernel is true for Windows as well (any OS honestly) and we have seen that first hand on countless machines. ULTIMATELY, security is 75% the responsibility of the user. The other 25% is where Unix systems shine.
@drabomb This is tiresome and I just don't care to argue. If you don't currently own a Mac & Win machine then you really have no experience to pull your own opinions from. I do, so I can say what I do or don't like about either one. Mac has some short comings when you look at what measures MS has to put in place to protect their machines. Since Mac has nearly no threats nor an easy way to exploit the system they can get away without it. I don't like that fact because I want overkill. But...
@bleackorama Have pics of those degrees? But your opinion isn't what we want. All Unix based OS' are more stable than Windows. However, that's not to say that there aren't any holes to exploit it's just harder to find in Unix systems. EVEN if I needed virus protection 10 years from now when Mac is really really popular, I would still buy products from them because of how wonderful they have been to own and use for many years.
@drabomb You need to pay attention to work in the field of print and broadcast media. I'll just point you to the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Full Sail University as starting points.
@drabomb Make sure you point out how that contest works. The computer you hack is the prize and the person has months to work on it. I'd go after the nicest and best computer if I got to take it home afterwards. Also, by being on the computer he's hacking he can control admin priv which wouldn't work from an online attach. Windows fell in 11 sec btw and needs no admin priv.
apple is just mad because microsoft can top macs in only a few years... not to mention the "recovery from crashes" that macs wont have when they all end up crashing... yea... think of that...
thats an excuse for microsoft coming up with a much better os than apple... its a small world.. a lot of things are bound to be similar... look at the toster stroodel vs the pop tart... we dont say toster stroodel copied from pop tart. but they are similar...
OSX is still better than Windows. Find me someone on the Wall Street Journal, Fortune Magazine or any other reputable site that is neutral that says otherwise. Also, there is an abundance of proof that Microsoft mimics or flat out copies Apple and they have done it for years! Just recently they had to gag their own people against admitting they went after the look and feel of OSX.
@dragngt wrong just because wall street execs suck apples trendy cock doesnt mean its better, hence the reason why MS and linux are used far more by companies, and within more industries. Its also why the windows has dominated since its release.
thats because theyre operating systems are so unpopulated! when they grow, hackers will start focusing on apples, and they will crash. there's a limit of authority in world you cant see...
the clock is ticking, as windows loses customers, and macs gain, more hackers will focus on macs and eventually they'll crack that "update before hacked" rule
@ironmadion55 And yet I have to say that OSX will possibly never garner ANY of the attention that Windows will from threats. OSX's closed system, smaller unix based code and the fact that no one runs as administrator will continue to give malicious content problems. You also have to choose to install most of content. So if you pirate software I can see that being a bigger issue.
well, see there's the problem.. mac's os delivers none of the administrative qualities that windows delivers. you have no power over your own computer, and how is that better than not having virus'.. basically your choosing between communism and democracy. id rather have the freedom to crash my computer then to play goodie goodie macintosh style.
okay, this commercial just told me to get a pc, i think i will. what a terrible commercial; what are they marketing? a mac? i could swear this was a pc commercial.
what i think is so funny is how mac users whine about how "well you can just install windows on a mac!!!" well than why not buy a FUCKING PC and save your 200+ dollars
Okay, I'll bite. Give us the name of the virus because at the moment I don't know of any Mac viruses. There are Trojans out for the Mac but you have to install them. They don't just show up. Also, Snow Leopard has a Trojan detection feature built in according to the latest reports. It still won't be at my house until this Friday.
the only way you can get a virus on a mac is if you pirate software, movie or if you were watching porn and clicked on "install missing plug in".....even my mom who doesnt know shit about computers wouldnt even click that button. the only way you get a virus , MAC OR PC, if you go looking for it. really i feel safe with both Ubuntu(what im using right now) and OS X.
No, its more going way back to the VHS vs Beta format war. Both had pros and cons. Beta was killed because its pros weren't in the best interest of the consumer. The thing that really pushed VHS to become the standard (as well as Windows) was their distribution. Any company can put Windows on their computers yet only Apple can put OS X, the same as Sony only manufactured Beta.
this is ridiculous. everyone here is simply bashing macs. guess they just aren't cool enough to own one. jealous much?

RaverAmbitions 1 year ago
@drabomb

@drabomb
Macs Are 100% UNIX systems. Check Wikipedia on Mac OS X if you do not believe me. And because of that, this means OS X has everything a UNIX system would have. Including the full security, I'm sorry your wrong and spreading FUD.
RaverAmbitions 1 year ago
everyone who gloats about macs, honestly, are not very smart.

@dragngt Pfft, Ubuntu is one of the most user friendly OSs out there... if you don't want to handle it in a complex way you don't have to, its simple, and most applications have open source equivalents. And most hardware has drivers, just buy hardware that is compatible, its available and no more expensive...

@drabomb Like I said before. I understand what I'm trying to convey but I've got better crap to do than argue. It would also require me to write more than 500 characters in one of these boxes. Maybe I'll do something at a later date.
dragngt 2 years ago
But I still prefer the Mac OS over what I've used in the Linux or Windows areas. The argument about the Unix kernel is true for Windows as well (any OS honestly) and we have seen that first hand on countless machines. ULTIMATELY, security is 75% the responsibility of the user. The other 25% is where Unix systems shine.
dragngt 2 years ago
@dragngt Security is all bullshit. Your most important data resides right in your user directory.
thebsdguy 1 year ago
@drabomb This is tiresome and I just don't care to argue. If you don't currently own a Mac & Win machine then you really have no experience to pull your own opinions from. I do, so I can say what I do or don't like about either one. Mac has some short comings when you look at what measures MS has to put in place to protect their machines. Since Mac has nearly no threats nor an easy way to exploit the system they can get away without it. I don't like that fact because I want overkill. But...
dragngt 2 years ago

Windows fell in 11 sec btw and needs no admin priv.

apple is just mad because microsoft can top macs in only a few years... not to mention the "recovery from crashes" that macs wont have when they all end up crashing... yea... think of that...
ironmadion55 2 years ago
@ironmadion55 So you mean MS can copy OSX just like they copied the Apple Stores.... Nice try.
dragngt 2 years ago
thats an excuse for microsoft coming up with a much better os than apple... its a small world.. a lot of things are bound to be similar... look at the toster stroodel vs the pop tart... we dont say toster stroodel copied from pop tart. but they are similar...
ironmadion55 2 years ago
OSX is still better than Windows. Find me someone on the Wall Street Journal, Fortune Magazine or any other reputable site that is neutral that says otherwise. Also, there is an abundance of proof that Microsoft mimics or flat out copies Apple and they have done it for years! Just recently they had to gag their own people against admitting they went after the look and feel of OSX.
dragngt 2 years ago
@dragngt wrong just because wall street execs suck apples trendy cock doesnt mean its better, hence the reason why MS and linux are used far more by companies, and within more industries. Its also why the windows has dominated since its release.
CommonM1stak3 2 years ago
thats because theyre operating systems are so unpopulated! when they grow, hackers will start focusing on apples, and they will crash. there's a limit of authority in world you cant see...
ironmadion55 2 years ago
@ironmadion55 I've heard that for over 10 years and I'm still sitting pretty. Ten years of 0 problems is a nice feeling.
dragngt 2 years ago
the clock is ticking, as windows loses customers, and macs gain, more hackers will focus on macs and eventually they'll crack that "update before hacked" rule
ironmadion55 2 years ago
@ironmadion55 And yet I have to say that OSX will possibly never garner ANY of the attention that Windows will from threats. OSX's closed system, smaller unix based code and the fact that no one runs as administrator will continue to give malicious content problems. You also have to choose to install most of content. So if you pirate software I can see that being a bigger issue.
dragngt 2 years ago
well, see there's the problem.. mac's os delivers none of the administrative qualities that windows delivers. you have no power over your own computer, and how is that better than not having virus'.. basically your choosing between communism and democracy. id rather have the freedom to crash my computer then to play goodie goodie macintosh style.

It's all about price with Apple!
Think about this. having a Mac is like having a expansive watch like a rolex.
If macs were less expansive they would be more popular.
They don't want to be popular. They want to have exclusive clients because they can put more money in Apples pocket!

Okay, I'll bite. Give us the name of the virus because at the moment I don't know of any Mac viruses. There are Trojans out for the Mac but you have to install them. They don't just show up. Also, Snow Leopard has a Trojan detection feature built in according to the latest reports. It still won't be at my house until this Friday.
dragngt 2 years ago
the only way you can get a virus on a mac is if you pirate software, movie or if you were watching porn and clicked on "install missing plug in".....even my mom who doesnt know shit about computers wouldnt even click that button. the only way you get a virus , MAC OR PC, if you go looking for it. really i feel safe with both Ubuntu(what im using right now) and OS X.
y35n00b5 2 years ago
...other than the numerous security holes in all of Apple's software? As they saying goes; there's more than one way to skin a cat.
rednec0 2 years ago
holes....what holes? windows looks like Swiss cheese compared to any of apples holes. the fact that windows still needs an anit-virus shows that.
go ahead and do your own research of who has more anti-virus, macs or PC. my money is on the PC's.
y35n00b5 2 years ago
Apple would be in Microsoft's place if the Apple OS was as popular as Windows is.
kusanagisama 2 years ago 3
No, its more going way back to the VHS vs Beta format war. Both had pros and cons. Beta was killed because its pros weren't in the best interest of the consumer. The thing that really pushed VHS to become the standard (as well as Windows) was their distribution. Any company can put Windows on their computers yet only Apple can put OS X, the same as Sony only manufactured Beta.
BasilHitsManuel 2 years ago
That is true, if Microsoft made their own hardware, instead of letting other companies make hardware for their software.
