  • Very impressive! He must have lived there his whole life.

  • Cool, I wonder how long it took him to learn.

  • dude .. you are as black as a burnt coal xD. sweet. thumbs up.

  • dd this guy just say umnqundu?lmao

  • he's probably a missionary.

  • he is awesome!!

  • Watch the eyebrows, they seduce you. ;)

  • that was such good Xhosa for an american!

  • Well damn! It takes all kinds to make the world go 'round!

  • i went to hilton head island with his son curt duncan

  • pretty cool; i'd like to hear some rhymes in this language.

  • you're telling me this white dude from tennessee can speak !xhosa well enough to know the different clicks?

  • more Xhosa !!!!!

  • wtf

  • sounds like a rap lol

  • lol good

  • one person is a north american that speaks Xhosa

  • That was excellent! Well done you for learning the local language, I am truly impressed :)

  • I am Xhosa living here in New York city, i must say he was good. I know other tribes in South Africa who can't say what this guy said, Big Up.

  • I love that this guy's so great at Xhosa! From the least expected person to be open minded, just shows that maybe we too are a little close minded to think American Southerners aren't interested in other cultures!

  • lol

  • I love Russell Peters.

  • He went in

  • How cool is that, man?! So freaking awesome! Fascinating!

  • Super..lol!

  • Amazing!

  • AHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

That is one of the best videos of the day, lmfao

  • That's cool! How do you know when to say the click?

  • @CreativeProfiteer98 The same way you know when to use certain letters.

  • @CreativeProfiteer98 Some letters indicate the clicks. The click of the video is indicated by the letter "q ". For example, in the word umnqweno (means "wish") you pronounce the non-clicking letters normally and instead of pronounce "q", you click. The pronunciation is different from english. I think the sounds of the letters have better equivalents in Portuguese. There are two others clicks more commonly spoken. One Indicated by the letter "c" and another by "x".

  • AWESOME!!!

  • Impressive, and your pronounciation is on point...the first few words, after that not quite sure...but very impressive nonetheless:-) especially considering that many white people who grow up around Xhosa speakers don't even bother to pronounce our names properly.

  • not bad for a American

  • impressive

  • OMG that didn't even mean anything, stupid tourists will believe anything.

  • Well maybe some of it meant something, but most of it, is a load of bull. Either that, or you need to learn that again.

  • @Mlindos At least it sounded cool.... lmao

  • @CatGameDaiyE I can't believe I've just watched this again, it sounds even crazier than before :(

  • @Mlindos It doesn't sound cool to you? I've never really listened to it until today. It doesn't sound quite like the others I've also been watching. Would you send me one or two of your favorite vids if you can think of any?

  • loooool...wat the hell was that omg if any children were being thought from that they need to get a better teacher barely heard a word of anything he was saying...looool...but at least you attempted though so thats worth something....

  • He's not teaching. He's just speaking.

If you don't understand it's because it is a foreign language, it's normal to not understand.

I withdraw what I said if you're a fluent Xhosa speaker.

  • @raydredX im fluent in xhosa but what that man said went in one ear and out the other..l0l..but em are you south african if so from which city??..

  • @MissOscar1 Nah, I'm just a random person. But yeh, I guess that, he's not speaking xhosa, or he speaks in a different dialect or, and this is most probable, he sucks!!! :P

Cheers too you, I'd like to learn xhosa but I have an eye on other languages and, if I'm not mistaken, Xhosa has 18 click variations. That's too much for me.

  • well, there are 18, but you won't necessarily need to learn the difference. did you ever learn the difference between the "p" in "spit" and "pin"???

  • @silvr94 Haha... You asked the wrong person. Yes I have, although most people haven't I know.

  • Um proudly Xhosa and i can say i am impressed, everytime um on the phone here in NYC somebody wants me to teach him Xhosa, i should get paid doin it.............

  • Dude you are freaking awesome!

  • Asi ha dicho el hombre viejo que fume la pipa! HAHA

  • Not bad for a white american southerner.

  • quite hard to yell in xhosa

  • This is seriously impressive for a non-native speaker. I wonder how long he's lived there.

  • Is this a difficult language to learn? I'd love to learn to speak it, but I live in California :(

  • What the hell's got the fact that your livin' in CA to do with you learnin' Xhosa? Sure, it will be hard to find any material to learn from but if you're eager enough to do this, you'll totally make it ;)

    Cheers

  • uh, a LOT. You'd never get the chance to practice with anybody, you'd never have anybody telling you how you could improve your pronunciation (the best you could do is try to imitate tapes or videos, which is certainly not the same), and finding good material would be very difficult.

  • Totally agree dude, but he'd at least get started - in a way....

  • Oh God, the guy is awesome :) Love him! He's so good at the clicks :)

  • HANDS DOWN...Greatest language EVER! :D

  • these things always have skunks!!

  • i like this poem.

  • in case you were wondering, this is the best video on youtube. now you can watch it and die happy

  • Where can I find this poem? It would go so far to help me with my linguistics study. XD

  • one of my favorite videos on here!

  • Fantastic.

  • seriously?

  • no.. he did say skunk. the very fist word he said wa iqiqa (sp?) which means 'skunk'.

  • you see this? no, it's too small. I'm playing the worlds smallest violin.

  • Alan's hilarious. Their family just moved back to America on hiatus, and they're coming to my church. I've heard that like 40 times hahah.

  • Lol, wow, that's the same tongue twister the girl from my school who lives in South Africa tried to teach me.. Aint happening.. I tried for 2 days to actually say Xhosa. I came close, but gave up.

  • nice, xhosa is so cool

  • haha, sounds nice... want more!!

  • teaach mee! :)

  • Ndiafundile isiXhosa nokhuluma kancinci

  • cool, and funny too about the skunk.

  • its funny that he can get the 'q' but can't get the lateral click 'x' in Xhosa.

  • I thought the same thing, the q is much harder.

  • Impressive, but if you'll really want to hear some clicks listen to the !kang people from Namibia. Xhosa ain't got nothing on them.

  • a Southern American dude in South Africa speakin Xhosa...fantastic!

  • @SantomPh The accent is interesting in that language.

  • That's so neat

  • Awesome! Ha!

  • i love the sound of xhosa

  • Impressive. Wish I could learn a new language.
