  • Dedicaré ésta canción a mi nueva novia, espero que quiera serlo, jeje, y la cantaré para ella en nuestra boda.

  • @PurpleNinjaBarbie same here. except for the sister part

  • wow this iz a powerfull song! dude.....

  • @PurpleNinjaBarbie nearly all those insanely good artists are insanely good because of sex, drugs and rock and roll :L:L

  • just felt someone destroyed this song for me by all the over emotional bullshit, the banal pictures and that 'no more real music is made'. this is just magic, ok?! and magic is still made.

  • awww...the baby emos finally discovered what we were telling them all along...

  • this song is good to evoke emotion and remember one that you loved and the disco stick one like the one Borderlander800 mention is good to dance with the one you love so you see how music serves its to make life better they are both good. true one is in deep thought and the other is for fun both sound good to me

  • this song is so much more than most of the songs from my generation some times i think i am alone and then i listen to this song and that makes me fell better knowing that some one has gone throe pain that i am feeling and the whole world seems to be lifted off of my shoulders because i know i am not alone;)

  • The people who say good music is dead are obnoxious. They are to busy worrying about what everyone else listening to instead of appreciating all the good musicians out there still writing music.

  • @RedxFaction Well I agree that there are many artist writing good music, we have no choice but to deal with what is mainstream. Once upon a time you could turn on the radio and stand a fair chance of listening to good music. Thank whomever we have the internet.

  • This is a Beautiful video. . . truly beautiful! Thanks! God bless You! :)

  • I finally have a theory about this song...it isn't about being in love, it's about losing a loved one that never understood him, but in death she finally understands him, ironic considering that though she finally understands him all he can see in her eyes is "a vacant sea" but it's just a theory...

  • Great song but the pictures in the video look like absolute shit

  • this song actually had me out lookig out at the stars and thinking about the girl i was with at the time it was soooo sweet!!... minus the "dead eyes" part

  • up t'bloody tree!

  • @hoobool indeed ;) do you want this chocolate choux?

  • This is such a Beautiful song , I love to blast it out through my headphones & just close my eyes & let the music just take me away ! WoW long live The Smashing Pumpkins

  • this band taught me what art really is

  • suddenly a picture of Alfred Lord Tennyson

  • the man was born to make music.

  • @sk8rking1234 Billy is probly my favorite artist of all time. Along with Dave Grohl

  • I am so tired of young people saying there is no good music these days. There is a TON of good music these days. The 90's were the 90's and that kind of music is gone. But there is so much fantastic Trance, Progressive House, Electro being made these days. Honestly, just dont be lazy and go find it.

  • This band is the MOST UNDER RATED band of the 90s!!!!!!! Or even ever!

  • sweet song

  • Where do we go? What will we do? Soon said I will know. And Are you just like me? Dead EyeS are you just like me

  • This album was a staple for me when i was in high school (94-97). It stands the test of time very well.

  • This was the theme song for my first prom. They were my favorite band then and always will be. <3 You Billy Corgan!

  • does anyone else think this kinda sounds like I am the cosmos by chris bell?

  • i could drown myself in the guitars.

  • Smsng Pmpk simply the bests...

  • troppo belle,i love smashing

  • Its beautiful beyond words. Eloquent and poetic. A forgotten art. This is what our generation is missing, music that evokes genuine emotion. What do we sing about now? Empty words and disco sticks.

  • @borderlander800 Don't worry! Me and many other fellow rockers are going to bring back music! THAT'S OUR MISSION AND WE'LL NEVER GIVE UP!!!! >:D

  • just fucking great....the band ever!!!

  • Comment removed

  • The Smashing Pumpkins is one of the best bands I have ever heard..... this is one of their best songs! Love, love, love it!!

  • @jjharris1974 you are so right i simply love this band

  • id have to agree.... William Corgan is straight up genius....they have opened so many doors....nothing..absolutely like them....

  • her eyes, her eyes were as vacant as the seas, yeah

  • my wedding song also!! Great song

  • my wedding song

  • @IsmokeParliaments

and my friends' wedding song - which is why I was looking for it again!

  • Gennosuke and Oboro Dono...*tear*...

  • they are simply one of the best

  • Billy Corgan described his wedding day, writing that while the priest spoke he looked into his wife's eyes and thought she was a million miles away. He makes constant reference to her eyes in this song: "Dead eyes vacant as the sea." He didn't enjoy the wedding day and in the night when his wife had gone to bed he went out and looked up at the stars and thought he had made a mistake, hence "by starlight."

  • @PshYeahItzMe- How do you know that? I love knowing the history of songs like this but am just interested in where you're getting your information.

They're not still married are they.

  • @fiscallyintelligent I read it somewhere a while back and no Billy and Chris separated sometime in 1995, and divorced in 1997.

  • I listen to new SP and I wonder where did moodslike this go? where did depth like this go? Was it Flood? Was it James?? What heppend?

  • I'm making a mix of good, depressing songs... I've got this one, Soundgarden's Zero Chance, AIC's Nutshell, and Tom Petty's Good to be King... any ideas?

  • @templeofcoy

    killers-my list

    at the drive in-hourglass

i think they can make you think about alot

  • @templeofcoy Throw in some classical music in there, try Beethovens Moonlight Sonata. Some non-classic, You Know You're Right by Nirvana, Dust in the Wind by Kansas, Lithium by Evanescence, Hurt by Nine Inch Nails (Johnny Cash does a good cover of it), Landslide by Fleetwood Mac, Rape Me by Nirvana, and To Forgive by Smashing Pumpkins.

  • the snare drum is soooo good.........90's best period ever

  • long live SP

  • Another hypnotic song from the greatest album of all time.

  • @princehartsea i wouldnt say of all time, thats kinda ignorant to say.. no offence but led zeppelin 4 is, with songs like stairway to heaven, rock and roll, and well must i go on?

  • No offense taken. What I meant to say is that this far and away my favorite album of all time. Obviously, Led Zeppelin IV had an everlasting impact on rock as a whole, but this album had an everlasting impact on my life and my taste in music.

  • @princehartsea well that's good, some music means many thing to people. To be honest one song thats always kind of stuck with me is Whistle for the Choir by the fratellis. Its a little different but I can really relate to the lyrics. So i can completely understand where you're coming from

  • Gives me massive CHILLS.......So BEAUTIFUL....!!

  • This song is an ephihany

  • This was the first album I ever bought "Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness" and its One of only Four albums to this day, that I love every single track on, the others are "OK Computer" by Radiohead, "Deja Entendu" by Brand New, and "Disintigration" by The Cure, the 80s and 90s were the golden era of Music, 2000's... Not so much..

  • smashing pumpkins makes me wanna learn how to drum

  • About as good as music could ever hope to be and as anchored to our memories as any other recall mechanism the human body can offer. The sound of The Smashing Pumpkins. As much a part of all of those who love them as the sun that shines upon us.

  • I listened to this after I got a divorce.. It helped me so much.. I knew I was on my own.. This song made me feel good!

  • @JennW70 pity u.there is someone 4u outthere

  • <3 Does she really know me... At last! :)!

  • Billy is an absolute genius.

  • best song eva...

  • Billy Corgan.

  • this is my girlfriend's and I song<3

  • this is my girlfriend's and I song<3

  • this song is simply beautiful. in my opinion one of the best ever

  • me encanta!!!

  • This was allways one of my favourite pumpkin songs

  • I've lived this. Broken desperate love. Just finding someone will keep you with them. Its the wrong way. Because its vacant just like he says. Nothing stable in sight.

So long self-esteem. By starlight we all look lovely.

  • I wish there was more music like this in the world...

  • Thinking about dancing this on my wedding bals, do u think its a good one?

I always liked smashing pumpkins, but most on the Melloncholy era, and always thinked of this song for my wedding.

  • Wow, I'm so impressed with the comments on this video. No haters to be seen anywhere. Heh, I was only ten years old when my favourite band split up, but i do believe that this was the kind of music that brought people together back then. I've never seen such a harmonic string of comments on any website. You give me faith in the internet, people, and music; all at once <3

  • theyre one of the greatest bands ever....i love their music...hahaha

  • love this song.........0:45 his voice gives me chills

  • @italianeyez914 concordo!

  • este disco es tan triste... pero a la vez tan rabioso y tan memorable.... demaciados sentimientos se evocan al escuchar este disco... para mi una joya de la musica de los noventas... necesario para comprender esos dias grises...

  • I love the whole album...I can put it on and listen for hours and not even skip through songs...one of the best concerts I've ever been too...

  • One of the very best on Mellon Collie. Have loved this for years and it still sounds as good as it did the first time. That massively chorused guitar chord in the second verse: pure goosebumps! Best guitar sound ever - I reckon. Genius.

  • ahh billy corgan, marry meeeeee.

  • her eyes, her eyes were as vacant as the sea...

  • love this song

  • such an amazing song. very beautiful, reminds one of love.

  • <3 <3 <3 amazing

  • no homo, this is my fav song. Just cuz of the good memories associated with it.

  • This makes me think of the person I love that doesn't want to be with me... for some one she has never met.

  • This reminds me of someone I want. And doesn't want me back.

  • this reminds me of my first love.

  • me too my friend. me too.

  • -->To guitarists :

There is a beautiful nice delay effect on the clean guitar, can someone tell me more about it (settings?) ?

  • Long live the 90s. Simpler times back then. I feel so lucky I grew up during the time when music was at its best.

  • @Incubifly Yeah , you are lucky. All I ever hear is .. FLOCKA! GUCCI! BRIIIIICCCCKKK SQUUUUAAAD!!

  • @Incubifly I wish I grew I was in the 90's. But hey, at least I'm a 90's baby XD

It seemed so much more layed back then now...Let's bring the 90's back. Yes?

  • I heard this song was recorded originally at a higher pitch but they slowed it down so it was a half step lower and that's why it sounds like every note hangs there. the sustain is longer but in a different way than just holding the notes...also those drums are so drowsy and sluggish. LOVE IT!!!

  • +1

This is written in official the tabs book

  • @billyjerem what is the tuning?

  • HI KSIDINGLExBERRY.

No, not about the tunning. We can here a delay on the clean guitar ringing like water flowing and easily audible @ 0:36. It is also close to the effect used on the guitar on SOMA in the 2nd verse (~2:00).

  • mann i wish there was a video on here live of them doing this song i cant find any really well i found one but the recording quality iss shitt, other than that just acoustic performances :/ if anybody can find any let me know please?

  • this songs guitar that starts out and plays in the background sounds basically the exact same way when played backwards. in fact the entire song kind of does except for the words of course.

  • i wanna hear this song backwards!!

  • shitty video

  • Amazing song, every Pumpkins song i here is awsome.

  • True dat.

  • such a touching song by such an amazing band!

  • WoW

  • whats that wow for?

  • Comment removed

  • i...*sniff*...love this song; it's just completely Mellon Collie. Normally I'd say this song "screams" Mellon Collie, but no, no...it bestows it. One of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard...a perfect song that just touches the heart...amazing.

  • I completely agree! i havnt bought a contemporary album for years! ive actually be drawn to classical music of the 18-1900s & discovered some beautiful music, faure-pavane,in paradisum,ravel-daphnis et chole. The music of today seems like a futuristic 80s!

  • Andres Montes RIP

  • bad ass

  • I ALMOST CRIED REMEMBERING MY EX WIFE!

  • WOW!

  • :/ I'm sorry.

  • its sad when people dont like a great band like this. i just consider them foolish.

  • I don't see why they don't either, 90% of the music these days is utter crap.

  • its as easily said "some people are dumb". that sentence explains all of lifes problems.

  • @DopedUpMonkey well if youre talking about mainstream, its more like 99%

stuff like this and underground stuff is just the way to go

  • @DopedUpMonkey well actually its 90% of the music thats on the radio or MTV and stuff. in the underground its going pretty decent.

  • @DopedUpMonkey it because they sad little sheep who only like what the tv tells them is the in thing

  • @zacattack500 i miss the whole band together forever

  • @zacattack500 i agree but most people havent heard enough of their stuff?

  • a rock n rollaby

  • Classic! One of the best bands ever.

  • @M109RDOWNUNDER what if this song will be in the hollister june 2010 playlist?

  • epic.

  • almost perfect

    5/5

  • sos grande Pumpkinssss

  • Great Job Silous! You definitly captured the beauty of both the song itself and of course Billy's voice! Again GREAT JOB!

  • this band.. man

    they're always so good

  • brilliant band brilliant song :)

  • es una de mis rolas favoritas

en su tiempo lloraba cada ves que la oia.

    the time of my life.

  • "I'll make you feel happy, and leave you to be lost in mine"

    I believe. :)

  • this song is so soft and soothing to me, a rock n roll lullaby...

  • Oh my god that Mellon Collie vibe just soothes me, the whole album just paints a picture of the richest midnight sea, and contrast blue. just such musical genius.

  • there is something just so soothing about billy corgans voice

anyway, I want to play this for my soon to be wife at our wedding (I am a musician). would it count as a vow?

  • thats so awesome. my boyfriend introduced me to billys music and i fell in love, this is our songoh an fyi if he played it for me at our wedding i would defiantly count it as a vow =)

  • This is my favorite Pumpkins song right next to Mayonaise.

  • I dont see how could somebody not like smashing pumpkins.seriously they re so freakin good.

  • one of the best albums i have ever bought myself!

  • yeah.they re a masterpiece:)

  • I once came across a fucktard in a form that claimed that Billy's voice was HIDEOUS and REPULSIVE

    ...

I don't even want to know what that creep deems as a beatiful voice

  • omg what a moron-.-'

  • maybe rick astely?? lols

  • this was the first time i have listen to this and i liked it.. vary cool! :]

  • I remember my first love with this song... i remember my first kiss with her... this song touch my heart.

For Ever in My Heart Smashing Pumpkins =')

  • amen...so right

  • My God. I haven't listened to this song in over a decade. Forgot how stunningly beautiful it is. Whistful, somber, sad, and so so beautiful...

  • i love sp!!!!

  • Such a great story. By the end of the CD he has completely forsaken 'god' and sought greater power with black or lucine 'god'. He has tumbled down the rabbit hole and eventually come out as a completely transformed person. Dead eyes, he recognises what he's become. It's like a love song to his new 'god' (dead eyes).

  • no.

it's about his wife or something, and thinking that she regret getting married to him.

I think he wrote it on his honeymoon

  • This CD has many layers and levels to it. It sings a lot about transformation and initiation. If you've studied that sort of thing then you see it throughout the songs. Of course there's a basic level which anyone can see but there's also a story of dying to the world that has forsaken him and initiation into that "other". Throughout history, this type of transformation has been a great secret and layered in symbols and signs.Like Machina is all about this alchemy. Just look at the CD cover.

  • it's about Chris Fabian... He has blogged many times about this time in his life and relationship with her, and believing that the vacancy in her eyes would change once they were married...but she still had the distant sadness.

  • so depressing yet so awesome

  • thanks smashing pumpkins...

  • The fact that this is what leapt into your conscious mind while listening to this song... I don't even know what to say... Haha

  • Hmm i think there might be something wrong with your ears..he he

  • why must i love her but hate her. ugh confusion

  • beter kan bijna niet.

  • I'm just actually getting into mellon collie and I have to say, I heard a lot of music and was trying to find an album that lives up to my expectations and this is proably the best album I have ever heard.....ever!

  • Extraordinary album from an extraordinary band

  • That makes me wonder what kinda person would be turned off by the SP's AWESOME music, just because Billy Corgan has...get ready for this...A REPULSIVE VOICE

It makes me wanna wonder, indeed

I'm not that person, just some random asshole that made that comment about the Watchmen trailer (Couldn't the ass just turned off the sound as he watched the trailer?¡)

  • I like his voice, it's very honest, it is imperfect and some people might like that but it contrast the music and then blend simutaneously.. it creates a magic, if you took somebody with a perfect voice like thom yorke it wouldn't be the same.. billy's voice is an ingredient REQUIRED for the smashing pumpkins pie

  • And in all honesty, Rock is full of unconventional vocalists. Look at guys like Kurt Cobain, who basically yelled to show emotions. And Billy's voice is beautiful in a very original way.

  • MCatIS, siamese dream, ok computer (radiohead) pink floyd the wall, tool undertow are the only albums I know that have no crap songs
