The role was to dark for ledger, eventually he started taking sleeping pills at night to help him sleep. Ledger could never get that role out of his head and it followed him everwhere. How would you have been having protraying one of the most evil characters ever on the big screen.

@xunit94 Apperently, he got so into his character that he actually developed anxiety problems and personality disorders, including insomnia (some people also say it made his bi-polar disorder more prominent). Because of these, he was put on a number of meds to help him sleep, and he mixed two perscription drugs that are lethal when taken together. That's what killed him.
