What I'm saying is "Techno" is a generic term for a synthesized sound. Yes, it's a genre alone. I'm very well familiar with them all seeing as I produce my own. "Rock" is it's own genre, but it is a very general term for genres that share the similar characteristics (guitars, drums, keys, etc).

Same goes for techno (trance, techno, industrial), classical (cinematic, classical, ambient, etc) and jazz (lounge, jazz, scat, etc).
