Accutane was the best thing that ever happened to me. I feel sorry for those who had rare but severe side effects, but that doesn't mean it doesn't help millions of others like me who suffered with acne for years. If you regularly do check ups with your doctor with blood tests, etc you'll be fine.
Question: After the use of Accutane, will i be left with dry skin?
I have moderate-not exreme- acne.My doctor sugested isotretinoin , but since my acne is not THAT severe, i wouldn't want to risk to be left with dry - wrinkle prone skin.
i've been on accutane for just over a month and my dr gave me clindamycin gel to apply before bed..is that too irritating? i'm not sure what the clindamycin will do for me. (i am still breaking out consistently)
@Raptor89994 That side effect was from Accuran that I had taken instead of Accutane/Roaccutane.. I continued with the treatment and now am acne free! So nope i ain't a coward...

how is it that accutane causes depression yet helps you gain self esteem? what a CONTRADICTION.! and why take the risk of having your baby be born with a deformity, thats so selfish.
@NOREEND13 Accutane has a very, very low chance of causing depression. My dermatologist has never had a patient get any of the very severe side effects, so most people would just be getting the benefit of higher self-esteem. I've been taking it and I know it has improved my self-esteem greatly. Women who take Accutane are required to use two forms of birth control and are given a pregnancy test every month. As he said in the video, after you are done with the treatment having a baby is fine.

accutane worked for me i am on 5th month for half dose, i think that full dose can be a bad idea because the side effects are much worse, i felt the side effects on half dose were annoying but not as annoying as bad skin
You should really mention other side effects about acutane such as back pain and joint pain. Moving into week 5 of my treatment I doubled the dose of acutane and I felt the results right awaay.
After playing a soccer with a lot of pain in the joints of my left leg I could barely walk or put any pressure on my left leg.
I'm sorry but for any athletes or people that have an active lifestyle I would not recommend acutane at all.

@TheGscale yes it is, i went on a 6 month accutane treatment. My lips cracked like crazy (neutrogena lip moisturizer was my savior) I got nosebleeds close to the end of my treatment when i was on my highest dosage. stick to it. it's worth it.
I was prescribed Claravis (isotretinoin) recently and I took my first pill yesterday right after dinner around 9 p.m.. Later in the night I had woken up around 4 a.m. with painful stomach cramps, bloating then I started vomiting. Has anyone had these symptoms after one pill? I don't want to stop so early, but I also see that it says discontinue or call your dr. on the packet if you have those symptoms. Should I be concerned?
I am planning on taking Accutane this summer. I am starting graduate school in September and I have had enough of my acne. Honestly, best medicine I've ever taken. I started getting severe acne when I was 10. After trying many different treatments I finally ended up taking accutane. 3 months later and I had the clearest skin I've ever had at that point in my life. I stopped taking it after those 3 months and I haven't had any acne as bad as I had when I was a kid. If you have severe acne seriously take accutane. Life changing medicine.

i finished my 6 month trial with accutane about 11 months ago and it did wonders for my face, im clear. I did get the dry skin while i was on it but the only side effect i have now is on each of my cheeks, theres large red blotches. Its not bumpy but its like my skin is a diff. color there then on the rest of my face. I was jw if anyone has had this and if there's anything you can do about them. P.S they are barely noticable

I used Accutane 3 months 30 mg per day. And after two months I have experienced heart arrhythmia's and I lost my weight even I eat regular 3 times per day. I never had hearth problems and I done exam of heart so it was ok. But I was so afraid and I even breathing weak. After Accutane I have sleep apnea but after half year stopping therapy I back to normal. I also experienced memory problems after 2 months and first 15 days I have also problem sleeping. After therapy my skin become elastic..
I was on Accutane for 5 months. and all I can say is that it completely changed my life. I am SOO much more confident and happier now. It cured my cystic face acne, back acne, and really oily skin. I've only had 2 or 3 pimples in the past 2 years. I did however get the side effect of DRY skin. But that was completely manageable with a very good face cream. (recommend Cetaphil). I would recommend this to anyone who has acne.
word of advice to get through the mediation.... Find a hobby! and also if your not sure of the medication try it and see if you wanna keep pushing through.
Or do not go out as much to not take this drug as it makes you feel pretty lonely and sad at times. I train in boxing which is why I was so healthy, to me the results outweigh the risks and it was worth taking this medication, feel free to message me on aide effects as I know they're scary.

whats the risk of having liver damage, if so can u fight it or cure it. when taking accutane can u excersise while under going with the pill, if possible is there any risk when excersising.
@gbinct I did two courses of accutane (10 and 2 years ago respectively), and each time the acne came back after about 6 months of (beautiful :( ) clarity. However, though it has come back, it never gets as bad as it used to (no more nodules/cysts, or at least rarely). But I still have redness and get some inflammatory acne and whiteheads, so I'm still on antibiotics. Could be an element of rosacea to it perhaps.

there are many side effects and many unknown ones. i have heard of many cases some severe and some not. even to this day, accutane is not well and fully understood and not all side effects are known.
hang on there! have you tried lush or organic products? I'm in my 10s and have the worst acne on the acne scale (severe acne) and acne scars everywhere. It's still here but aloe seemed to help!
@prettysmilen I would first prefer to die instead of looking like a piece of sh#$. Nothing else worked and my father has horrible scars that make him look as if he's not a human being. So if you have cystic acne don't even think about the risks just take the accutane.

Accutane is chemotherapy drug and causes same effects as other anticancer drugs. One most important is that acutane causes hair loss and skin thinning, because it kill all fast dividing fells.
So you will get rid of acne and develop baldness at same time. Not so good.
However I don't see any reason why it is necessary to take it orally if you can use topical solutions without any severe side effects? Especially if cost is very low that way. Unfortunately skin thinning still possible.
@MrAUTOMATIIC you must worry about the rest. your life is in danger... it also has many unknown side effects and you may even be allergic to it, which may kill you.

@JoeFanatic01 if you have mild acne, id recommend you try other topical treatments before trying accutane. accutane is usually the last resort (when nothing else works).
also accutance has unknown side effects and many other severe side effects. you should do your research.
and yes. acne may come back. it depends on you. for some it doesnt. for some they get a few. for some, accutane does nothing.

It is true that accutane certainly does chance lives, as it did mine about 15 years ago now. My acne was bad, so I was thankful for this drug. However, three years ago it was discovered that I had herniated cervical discs on three levels. It was quite severe and almost paralyzed me. Thankfully, I had surgery and am back to normal now. I'm unsure if it was the Accutane or genes (or both), but should people having taken this drug maybe have scans of their spines every few years?
I took accutane 10 years ago and it was the most horrible thing I've ever done. I was only on it for about a month and a half. My eyes and lips got really dry and here I am 10 years later and my eyes still get super dry all the time. While I was on it I got really bad pain in my bones and always felt sick. Also the doctors and pharmaceutical company Roche always say it doesnt cause depression but they lie. I went crazy one day and almost committed suicide. For me it was a horrible drug.

Very incomplete side effects list!!... What about the fact that Accutane has been associated with inflammatory bowel disease (including regional ileitis) in patients without a prior history of intestinal disorders. Take it from someone with Crohn's... IBD is not fun and if there is a chance of getting it from taking this drug it is in no way worth it. This really should be mentioned in the video.
im on 20mg of roacc per day and on the third week now. the problem is the outbreak is very crazy, mountains of pimple. Im a bit worried whether this is normal or not, because what i saw on webs and other videos, they only have a little worst but mine is pimple covering my face...

I took accutane for 6 months and stopped around august 20th last year. I had bad acne, and it made me really shy and introverted. i had dry skin, and really dry lips while on it but that's it, and after few weeks i got used to it. by the end of taking it, my skin was so clear, it was amazing . it's worth the minor side effects. i can actually look at people and not worry what they think, or feel uglier. coritbalm is great, it's lip balm with cortizone cream. it's made for accutane users.

i have got really bad pit acne on my back and chest, i just started using erithromycin and there has been little or no change in my skin condition. the dermotologist i went too see sudgested accutane, but my bad was worried about the side effects, the main one being liver damage. is this something too be worried about if i start taking it?
My doctor prescribed it for 6 months and now I have baby skin face. Didn´t have any particular side effect other than peeling like a snake, but other than that, all perfect.
i honestly tried everything, doxycycline, minocycline, benzoyl peroxide creams and washes, tropical creams. none of it worked, the only thing i saw results with was the antibiotic minocycline (which still didn't take my acne away). i even tried tanning beds to dry up my acne, which it did but it wasn't long til i was back for more. all it did was camouflage current acne, not prevent new breakouts. so my dermatologist finally put me on accutane. I cannot wait to try it!!

accutane worked for me i am on 5th month for half dose, i think that full dose can be a bad idea because the side effects are much worse, i felt the side effects on half dose were annoying but not as annoying as bad skin

You should really mention other side effects about acutane such as back pain and joint pain. Moving into week 5 of my treatment I doubled the dose of acutane and I felt the results right awaay.
After playing a soccer with a lot of pain in the joints of my left leg I could barely walk or put any pressure on my left leg.
I'm sorry but for any athletes or people that have an active lifestyle I would not recommend acutane at all.

@TheGscale yes it is, i went on a 6 month accutane treatment. My lips cracked like crazy (neutrogena lip moisturizer was my savior) I got nosebleeds close to the end of my treatment when i was on my highest dosage. stick to it. it's worth it.

I was prescribed Claravis (isotretinoin) recently and I took my first pill yesterday right after dinner around 9 p.m.. Later in the night I had woken up around 4 a.m. with painful stomach cramps, bloating then I started vomiting. Has anyone had these symptoms after one pill? I don't want to stop so early, but I also see that it says discontinue or call your dr. on the packet if you have those symptoms. Should I be concerned?

Honestly, best medicine I've ever taken. I started getting severe acne when I was 10. After trying many different treatments I finally ended up taking accutane. 3 months later and I had the clearest skin I've ever had at that point in my life. I stopped taking it after those 3 months and I haven't had any acne as bad as I had when I was a kid. If you have severe acne seriously take accutane. Life changing medicine.

i finished my 6 month trial with accutane about 11 months ago and it did wonders for my face, im clear. I did get the dry skin while i was on it but the only side effect i have now is on each of my cheeks, theres large red blotches. Its not bumpy but its like my skin is a diff. color there then on the rest of my face. I was jw if anyone has had this and if there's anything you can do about them. P.S they are barely noticable

I used Accutane 3 months 30 mg per day. And after two months I have experienced heart arrhythmia's and I lost my weight even I eat regular 3 times per day. I never had hearth problems and I done exam of heart so it was ok. But I was so afraid and I even breathing weak. After Accutane I have sleep apnea but after half year stopping therapy I back to normal. I also experienced memory problems after 2 months and first 15 days I have also problem sleeping. I was on Accutane for 5 months. and all I can say is that it completely changed my life. I am SOO much more confident and happier now. It cured my cystic face acne, back acne, and really oily skin. I've only had 2 or 3 pimples in the past 2 years. I did however get the side effect of DRY skin. But that was completely manageable with a very good face cream. (recommend Cetaphil). I would recommend this to anyone who has acne.

@gbinct I did two courses of accutane (10 and 2 years ago respectively), and each time the acne came back after about 6 months of (beautiful :( ) clarity. However, though it has come back, it never gets as bad as it used to (no more nodules/cysts, or at least rarely). But I still have redness and get some inflammatory acne and whiteheads, so I'm still on antibiotics. Could be an element of rosacea to it perhaps.

i really recommend you avoid accutane and many other oral medications to treat acne.
there are many side effects and many unknown ones. i have heard of many cases some severe and some not. even to this day, accutane is not well and fully understood and not all side effects are known.
hang on there! have you tried lush or organic products? I'm in my 10s and have the worst acne on the acne scale (severe acne) and acne scars everywhere. It's still here but aloe seemed to help!

Accutane is chemotherapy drug and causes same effects as other anticancer drugs. One most important is that acutane causes hair loss and skin thinning, because it kill all fast dividing fells.
So you will get rid of acne and develop baldness at same time. Not so good.
However I don't see any reason why it is necessary to take it orally if you can use topical solutions without any severe side effects? Especially if cost is very low that way. Unfortunately skin thinning still possible.

@JoeFanatic01 if you have mild acne, id recommend you try other topical treatments before trying accutane. accutane is usually the last resort (when nothing else works).
also accutance has unknown side effects and many other severe side effects. you should do your research.
and yes. acne may come back. it depends on you. for some it doesnt. for some they get a few. for some, accutane does nothing.

It is true that accutane certainly does chance lives, as it did mine about 15 years ago now. My acne was bad, so I was thankful for this drug. However, three years ago it was discovered that I had herniated cervical discs on three levels. It was quite severe and almost paralyzed me. Thankfully, I had surgery and am back to normal now. I'm unsure if it was the Accutane or genes (or both), but should people having taken this drug maybe have scans of their spines every few years?

I took accutane 10 years ago and it was the most horrible thing I've ever done. I was only on it for about a month and a half. My eyes and lips got really dry and here I am 10 years later and my eyes still get super dry all the time. While I was on it I got really bad pain in my bones and always felt sick. Also the doctors and pharmaceutical company Roche always say it doesnt cause depression but they lie. I went crazy one day and almost committed suicide. For me it was a horrible drug.

Very incomplete side effects list!!... What about the fact that Accutane has been associated with inflammatory bowel disease (including regional ileitis) in patients without a prior history of intestinal disorders. Take it from someone with Crohn's... IBD is not fun and if there is a chance of getting it from taking this drug it is in no way worth it. This really should be mentioned in the video.

I took accutane for 6 months and stopped around august 20th last year. I had bad acne, and it made me really shy and introverted. i had dry skin, and really dry lips while on it but that's it, and after few weeks i got used to it. by the end of taking it, my skin was so clear, it was amazing . it's worth the minor side effects. i can actually look at people and not worry what they think, or feel uglier. coritbalm is great, it's lip balm with cortizone cream. it's made for accutane users.

i have got really bad pit acne on my back and chest, i just started using erithromycin and there has been little or no change in my skin condition. the dermotologist i went too see sudgested accutane, but my bad was worried about the side effects, the main one being liver damage. is this something too be worried about if i start taking it?

My doctor prescribed it for 6 months and now I have baby skin face. Didn´t have any particular side effect other than peeling like a snake, but other than that, all perfect.
Totally worth it!

i honestly tried everything, doxycycline, minocycline, benzoyl peroxide creams and washes, tropical creams. none of it worked, the only thing i saw results with was the antibiotic minocycline (which still didn't take my acne away). i even tried tanning beds to dry up my acne, which it did but it wasn't long til i was back for more. all it did was camouflage current acne, not prevent new breakouts. so my dermatologist finally put me on accutane. I cannot wait to try it!!

hello doctor, a niece of a friend of mine who is 11 is starting to develop very bad acne and acne runs in their family, my question is accutane safe for a child of 11 to take this drug, as her self esteem is being affected greatly.
can it treat nodular cystic acne in minors, and does the child have to be over a certain weight before they can take the drug, can the child take it if they are very slender.

I have cystic adult acne and I've heard that after people are done using accutane that their acne comes back with a vengeance. Is that true? Do I have to worry about it coming back?

I hate my doctor !!!! last week i visited my doctor and told him once again about how depressed i am about my acne. He told me oww well my acne was about 50 times worse than yours and im still alive. I could almost cry he did not even look at me !!! Who gives a shit about the side effects the side effects u get from Acne are so bad that sometimes I don't wanna live anymore, my teenage years are ruined because of it and I don't want my twenties to be getting ruined too !!!! MAKE IT STOP NOW !!

@xSnoweyexp Hey, I know how you feel. But, you should see another doctor and don't take no for an answer. I'm 23 and FINALLY I'm getting on acutane tomorrow morning. Hang in there!!

I hope it will work for you I mean come on we are living in 2011 , we are curing cancer , we are cloning elephants and chewbaccas and we can't even find a cure for some stupid pimples !! yeah right !! I'm going to find another doctor, I'm using really good products right now and you can barrely see it but its still there so I just wanna get rid of it !! keep it up.
