  • Don't forget Springsteen guested on the track Endless Night from the Up Escalator album with Graham which is a show of mutual respect . Both great artists regardless of who sold more records.

  • Just superb.

  • There is no doubting Graham's songwriting ability and stagecraft. With the Rumour there was always a blaze of energy and commitment live, certainly at the London gigs I went to. Unfortunately no specific single by him made a dent on public consciousness in the way, say, Oliver's Army did. Don't ask me questions should have hit home. Plus, both Costello and Springsteen have been astute in their dealings with the press and broadcast media. (Notwithstanding Costello's moment with Stills and co!).

  • fete today graham 60

  • always thought he was as great as The Boss was in the late 70's. Never could figure out why he didn't have the same popularity?

  • They've got new idols for the screen today

Although they make a lot of noises they got nothing to say

I try to look amazed but it's an act

The movie might be new but it's the same soundtrack

  • GP-coolest mf'er ever

  • @hexcane

The amount of riffs and rhythms are relatively finite. But when it comes to creating music artists do have an infinite amount of arrangements (if they're good enough) and they certainly can create a unique and compelling harmonious song. That's why there will always be that fresh new sounding song that comes along every so often.

  • Squeezing Out Sparks is one of the best ever. Graham feels Passion inside; Springsteen works hard to make sure he is not leaving the audience on the outside looking in. Everything with Bruce is "share" whereas Graham is his own man and an individual hero who does things his own way and never back down. Bruce is everyone's hero. Bruce did say the only band he would pay to watch was Graham and the Rumor. Graham doesn't know much about compromise and doesn't manufacture passion onstage or off

  • @hexcane

I dont think music is finite because sound is infinite.

Mathematical does not mean finite in any way.

  • Love Mr Parker. Apparently it was very sunny.

  • Bruce sand with Graham on "Endless Night".

  • Paul Schaefer pitching in on piano!

  • Very cool lyrical composition! Love it!

  • Graham is the MAN, Brinsley :-)

  • The lyrics are fresh. The music is nothing ground breaking, but nice.

  • nice guitar break who is that?

  • @darkstar2181 Sid McGinnis ,he's been with the Late Night band since 1984

  • I think Bruce and Graham are both great. Why do we need to compare?

  • With The Rumour, this man burned. Saw them so many times. The Rainbow gigs of the late 70s' still wait to be beaten.

  • Graham Parker is basically God

  • Graham made me think that it wasn't just me.

  • He looks a little like a young randy newman

  • I was at the FineLine in Minneapolis when Graham was there. I was three feet from the stage. Major thrill to be that close to a rock god like Parker. Hard to beat his old stuff - Howlin Wind and Don't Ask Me Questions and Help Me Shake It and all the other classics with the Rumour.

Props for the collection. I'm collecting videos for my Children Fishing Channel if you come across any good ones.

  • what a great version of that song, tnx for posting

  • i was not a bruce fan at all either -- had back stage passes adn dindt even go back -- was one of the few people among 1000's that really wasnt moved by his performance 1980 civic arena , pittsburgh -- graham is one of the better rockers and writers

  • Parker is the missing link between Bob Dylan and Joe Strummer.

  • sounds so much like Elvis Costello.............

  • @evelynmh Actually, it's Elvis who sounds like Graham, he was first on the scene, Elvis followed in his footsteps.

  • @shumasonics uh.... actually, graham used to open for elvis in the early days.

  • @LissG76

Graham Parker never opened for Elvis Costello.

Parker had 2 albums released in 1976, Costello's first release was 1977.

  • @snackleforkofemir my mistake..... not the early days, but my mom saw them together in cali when i was younger... they HAVE played together

  • Comment removed

  • This is a great song. In my books, he's still on top of the songwriter/performer mountain with Costello, Richard Thompson, Ron Sexsmith, Nick Lowe....

"I Discovered America" - more recent - one more in a long line of fabulous offerings! Long live GP

  • GP's voice just kept getting better and better.

He sings better the later in time you see him.

Not that he was bad to begin with, but some people lose their abilities with age and some get better.

  • excellent!!! what year was that? the set looks different.

and, graham, like warren, needs to be in the hall of fame. cleveland, i think it is.

    thanks for posting this video.

  • He's the real deal he is!!

I'm so glad I found him again.

    Sigh!

  • That's not Slash in there, is it?

  • Geez, he never looked better!

  • Was this the broadcast that Bill Hicks was cut from??

  • Great stuff!

  • just add my Ahmen....Squeezing out Sparks was/is a great album. Yes I had one of the real vinyl ones...Not a bad song on the album.....Also check out Alive on Arrival by Steve Forbert.....man do I feel old.....

  • wasn't this on "Another GRey Area"

  • that aint brinsley schwarz

  • Graham is much better (OK, great) than his popularity indicates.

  • i didn't care much for Bruce; Graham was the real deal back in the day.

  • @sherbear2345 And he still is!

  • @sherbear2345 I'm with ya. Graham is 100%, Bruce about 90

  • Squeezing Out Sparks was definitely one of the best releases of that decade. yeah, Parker certainly deserves more recognition of his talents than he's gotten...

  • Maybe the best lyricist of the '80's.

    Indeed, thank you Graham.

  • Passion is no ordinary word.

He fumbles the light switch, its just another minor hitch, wishies to god he was dead.

    Thanks for the lyrics Graham.

  • Yeah, imagination's one thing that comes easy to him :)

  • i wish he was teaching me right now

  • long live the king of reason the one the only GP!!!!!!!!!

  • Great album Squeezing out sparks"
