  • Look at me, I'm the Ty-D-Bol man! I own a yacht and everyone poops on me!

  • When I was a little kid in the early 70's, probably like alot of kids then, I asked my grandmother to lift the top of the porcelain toilet top to let me see if the Ty-D-Bol man was in there....

  • Some of you can laugh and criticize the ads all you want. They are far better then the mindless CG junk they use today. Advertising is an art and these old ads showed these people that did them worked hard at them and used their imaginations.

  • John Terry's dad innit?

  • I have a carnival ride boat made up to like like the Ty d Bowl mans boat and modified it to put a 3 Hp boat motor on it. I have a hat like his too. I get a lot of laughs on the river during the weekend.

  • Here he is, Irsihwinters Daddy.

  • Drown that obnoxious little fuck.

  • So what does he do for food?

  • I use to say your mother makes out with the Ty-D-Bol Man

  • he died and he was in caddyshack

  • Jimmie Walker used to make references to the Ty-D-Bol man on Good Times

  • what a shitty job he has

  • I remember a comedian circa 1980 saying about a little man boating around his toilet "you know what I'd do - I'd flush that little man down my toilet!"

  • too bad a big turd did not capsize it ~LOL

  • Carol Burnett did a hilarious spoof of this on our of her shows....

  • thumbs up if you thought they meant Thai Dianabol

  • It's Dr.Beeper from Caddyshack!!

  • @chipper246 You're right! The Ty-D-Bol man was played by character actor Dan Resin who also played Dr. Beeper in Caddyshack. I heard he passed away last year.

  • lol... Thai Dbol

  • LOL. I love it. The dudes all happy about tooling around inside a toilet in a boat.

Whatever floats your boat...so to speak :)

  • Doctor Beeper!

  • This commercial provided lots of satire material for comedians back in the day

  • @NoIDidunt10 Carol Burnett did a skit where she actually flushed the toilet.

  • @NoIDidunt10 Yes,I remember! LOL

  • haaaaaay! get outa my toilet ya pervo

  • Isn't that John Cleese from Monty Python?

  • @WebSurfing1ish I don't know if you're being facetious or not, but to answer your question: that's Dan Resin not John Cleese :)

  • @mikepalomino No, I wasn't being facetious, just wasn't sure.

  • This is a good example of making a sheity job look glamorous!

  • He was Dr Beeper in Caddyshack! And was dressed the same I think!! hehe

  • @zzzombie888 Yup - he was one of 2 or 3 different guys who played the Ty-D-Bol man. I liked that scene in "Caddyshack" where he comes out of the water and says to the partying kids "Hey man, save me a toke" and grabs his pager and shocks himself.

  • Im glad you all care about my grandfather! thank you, he'd b glad to kno

  • RIP Tidy Bowl man! Nobody who has ever seen this ad will forget you!

  • By Randy Economy

The world famous Ty-D-Bowl man has died. As a child, I would always peek under the lid...just hoping...and praying....to actually get a glimpse of the Ty-D-Bol Man, all dressed up in that super clean captain uniform with his handy dandy sail boat and ladder. Actually, a family member of mine had problems getting "potty trained" because the blue water always "freaked" her out. She hated the whole "Ty-D-Bowl" experience.

  • God Speed Dan "Ty-d-Bowl Man" Resin. Rest in peace.

  • RIP Ty-Dol Man!

  • R.I.P. Dan Resin

  • That is Dan Resin aka DR. Beeper in Caddyshack (1980) lives in NJ. for who asked months ago .....

  • @scruewd thats my grandfather <3

  • anyone remember on The Carol Burnett Show when they spoofed this and Carol flushed him down the toilet? lmfao!

  • My toilet wouldn't flush and after taking the lid off I found his little, lifeless body jamming up my handle. I fed him to the cat.

  • @jengacrock :(

  • The idea that the guy was that small and decided to live in a toilet kinda ruins his credibility... its just not right !

  • The dude's boat should have been brown with yellow upholstery. If he worked in the toilet in a college dorm room, every now and then somebody must have crapped in the tank (a time honored college tradition).

  • @elc1960

Typically referred to as "top shelfing".....lol

  • He's hot...Ohhhhhh Daddy!....SPLASH!!!!!

  • I love this commercial!

  • nice boat..lol

  • Why the hell did I get a thumbs down for asking a question?

  • What a crappy job to have.....

  • Whats Mitt Romney doing tyd bowl ads in the 1970's???

  • @will4ward Actually, I think that's Dr. Beeper from "Caddyshack."

  • @will4ward haha

  • So, what was the bottle made of before it was plastic?

  • Probably was glass. That was one of their selling points. ' It won't break like other cleaners in glass bottles' And they show the bottle falling on the floor not breaking

  • Oh ok cool. I wish more products would go back to glass. I would love to have Gatorade in a glass...

  • @apachette07

    it was made of gay

  • @NoSocialSkillz

    EPIC FAIL

  • im confused.. dbol makes you huge, this man is very small

  • this guy is a hindu from guyana trrying to buy your house.

  • Does anyone remember SNL "Where does the Ty-D-Bol MAN go when you flush down the toilet?" LMAO Would love to see that SNL sketch again.

  • I used to watch this as a little girl and drop candy into the toilet for The Ty-D-Bowl Man, until my mom caught me.

  • LOL! This ad always brings back memories of Carol Burnett flushing him on her sketches in which TV commercials "came to life." Also, the episode of Mary Tyler Moore where they hire Murray's niece to help cue up the ads at the station, and she messes up during the news, so Ted Baxter says "Um, we don't seem to have that ad, so I'll just describe it...a woman goes into her bathroom and hears someone saying 'Hi there!,' so she lifts the toilet tank, and inside there's a little man in a boat..."

  • I forgot about that; LOL. That's still funny.

  • Why is there a man in my toilet bowl.

  • There was one version of this where they had introduced a fresh lemon scent, and I remember somone reaching into the toilet tank and taking this little, tiny lemon form the Ty-D-Bowl Man. I was little back then, and I really wondered if that was true. It ranked right up there wth the Scrubbing Bubbles...I really thought there would be an army of bubbles with swirly little scrubbies on their bottoms going across my tub, and I thought Herbal Escence Shampoo really left flowers in your hair.

  • The Ty-D-Bowl man was the butt of alot of jokes by comedians back in the 70s

  • Yeah, I liked it especially when Carrol Burnett flushed him down the drain! :D

  • lol the butt!

  • Hi, Thanks for posting this video. The Tidy Bowl Man was played by my acting coach John Barth. He opened up a school in Philadelphia and taught actors like myself how to break into the business. He was a great man and an ever better teacher. I just uploaded my audition tapes from his school in 1986. Check them out and let me know what you think. Enjoy.

  • OMG..I had classes with John Barth in PA too. He did the Steak 'um commericals...and taught me a lot about blocking and 'end scene'..I loved and adored him!! :)

  • Mandi, when did you take his classes. I was there around the late 80's. It was on Chestnut street I think. His wife also helped teach the classes. He did teach me a lot. you can see some of the videos from that class on my site.

  • I always thought when I was a kid: If he is in that boat and some fat chick sits on the toilet while he is boating.... He is gonna be in for the shock of his life! LOL!

  • All I can say is this product tought me as a child that yellow and blue makes green.

  • @oingofan

Actually...you are referring to another commercial. Baggies had a commercial where the strips of the bag...one side was yellow...the other side was blue..when you snapped the strips together..it made green.

  • this was a biggie....it was references in a lot of other TV shows. Johnny Carson used to work it in his jokes all the time.

  • sombody flush that dude............

  • I remember that commercial and I was only 12 months old then

  • Ha i was watching something on the jackson vareity show and jackie was compareing marlon to the Ty-D-Bol man so i looked him up LOL

  • When I was 4 years old, I remember watching this commercial between The Bugs Bunny Show and The Flintstones!

  • i remember that dude

  • when i was about 3 years old i opened a brand new bottle my mom just bought home from the store and dumped it on the carpet.i wanted the little boat,i never found the boat but i did piss my father off.the blue stain was in the carpet till we sold the house, might still be there,my hands were blue for weeks.the dam stuff was had to get out of the bottle to it had some type of plunger or stopper after you removed the cover.

  • I remember when they came out with a lemon scented one. I was a kid & kept looking at those bottles for the little tiny lemons they showed in the commercials.

  • If I saw a miniature man in a boat in my toilet, I'd flush it!

  • What did it come in before?

  • A glass bottle

  • Isn't that Dr. Beeper from Caddyshack? "Then snake a tube down her nose and I'll be back in 4 or 5 hours."

  • YES! That IS Dr. Beeper! LOL! "Hey man, save me a toke".

  • BRILLIANT

  • That was just like my last job.

  • He almost looks like Pat Boone. You know when I saw the new Ty-D-Bols that are out right now, I thought the original Ty-D-Bol man was Van Johnson. I'm almost thinking of trying to dress like him and make a light-hearted joke out of it. "Oh, by the way, how do you like the new boat? (laughs out loud)"

  • isnt d-bol a steroid... fail.

  • Was that L Ron Hubbard?

  • Yes, it was. Promoting his new book, "Diuretics"...

  • @sortashaman That joke probably pissed off a lot of Scientologists. Funny line though.

  • It looks like the Ty-D-Bol guy was on break just before this commercial started, resting on the bottle

  • I feel sorry for that guy because he has no way of predicting when high and low tide are going to happen.

  • spectrum 10 good one!

  • @spectrum10 i can tell u it won't be an iceberg that sinks his ship

  • How'd he get that outboard to start without pulling a cord? Do they have automatic ignition in a boat that small?

  • that's dr. beeper from caddyshack!

  • I always thought he should have Tennile with him.

  • i thought it said try d-bol

  • i thought it was a d-bol commercial too

  • Ah, nice to see what all the "Match Game"/"Carol Burnett Show" jokes were about.

  • Did they come out with a lemon scent once? I seem to remember a wonam squeezing a little tiny lemon at the Tidy Bowl dude.

  • Ok, I found out his name is Dan Resin (thank you IMdB!)

  • Nooooo, that's not John Vernon (who played Dean Wormer in A.H.) Forgot his name, but that's the guy who played the snobby doctor in Caddyshack (who owned the Porsche that gets puked in). If I remembered I think he ran for congress in NJ in the early `80's.

  • Is Ty-D-Bol even still around anymore?

  • Just bought some the other day, in tablet form now.

  • That guy is Dean Wormer from Animal House!

  • Anyone remember the commercial for Bandini Mountain? It had a guy skiing off a big mountain of Bandini fertilizer. Somebody needs to dig that commercial up and put it on here. Also, what about that one from the 70s that had that really skinny, tall, kinda scruffy guy wandering around the desert. I think it was for the white pages or something.

  • bandini is the word for fertilizer!

  • Yeah!

  • Yeah! There was also a dude on a dirt bike that flew off a ramp straight into the mountain of bandini poo

  • I still remember on The Carol Burnett show they did a sketch where she was coming back from the store and as she took the stuff out of her bags it would start talking to her doing commercials for the product. The Ty d bol man was one of them. I think Lyle Wagner played him.

  • The 70s were so great. What a great decade to grow up as a little kid. Things were so different back then. We weren't paranoid of things killing us, we ate sugary cereal for breakfast, but no kids were fat. Our activities actually involved playing and not sitting in front of the TV with a bowl of chips.

  • Did anyone else run around the neighborhood with cap guns playing war?

God forbid that now, someone might freak out and shoot some kid thinking he was a gangbanger or something.

  • nobody runs around the house doing anything anymore, if they did they would want to get payed for it

  • It's like some weirdo is living in the toilet.

  • The next time I think my job stinks, I'll remember the actor who was the Ty D Bol Man. I guess it was a living, but, can you imagine having to tell people what you do for a living?

Still, it was a clever gimmick... do they still make Ty D Bol? I think it's been replaced by 2000 Flushes (which, by the way, 2000 Flushes and products like it are very bad for your toilet's plumbing)

  • ROFL, "Bol" is a Sudanese last name (I knew a Daniel N. Bol at my university.) Ty is short for Tyrone. I would love to run into a Tyrone Dennis Bol.

  • I knew a Jim Boll in high school. He designed the cover of our high school yearbook. His classmates called him Boll Weevil (the cotton pest).

  • My parents used to scare me by saying if I wasnt good the Ty-D-Bol Man was going to jump out the toilet and take me away.

  • Remember on 'Good Times'?? 'Ain't no yacht floatin' around in our john!!' :D

  • Is that dude Uncle Arthur from Bewitched hawking toilet fluid?!

  • no, Paul Lynde was uncle arthur. One of the best comics ever.

  • He's going to get a BWI if he's not careful.

  • Just added your channel to my subscriptions, Great stuff,Fan-damn-tastick collection, Thanks for the postings.

  • And this is another reason why the greatness of 70's TV will never be matched.

I remember the old Carol Burnett skit where she found him floating around in her tank...and flushed him. Hee Hee.

  • I remember that well. Then the child-proof caps drove her insane.

  • There was a more gruesome version where she encounters the hapless boating toilet man in her sink, turns on the garbage disposal, and...

  • I've heard so many jokes about the Ty-D-Bol man on mostly sitcoms & Match Game 7X.

  • This reminds me of when I was four years old in 1971...I stayed at home with my Mom and baby brother, and my "favorite show" was early afternoon reruns of Gomer Pyle..when they changed the tv schedule around & replaced the GP reruns w/a soap (Love of Life), I went into a ballistic, four-year-old fit!

  • Wouldn't be as memorable if it were a cartoon.

  • There was a animated version of this ad in the 80s.

  • Everyone's been picking on the Ty-D-Bol man for years, but if he had made 1 false move trying to get in the boat, he would've drowned to death.

  • Makes me wonder how much easier this would've been prevented if he was a cartoon character instead? :-)

  • Why wasn't he wearing a life preserver?

  • LOL!
